Topcat2017 - A packet of pork scratchings have not passed my lips since mango posted one of her infamous picturesGrin - its somewhere on the EU board but I suggest you don't search for it Wink

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 10/01/2017 21:31

Bear the whole of MN is for chat though, just broken down into different sections and sub sections and so on. Within the EU Ref topic this is a happier - lighter thread for ecstatic leavers to chat - and those remainers who feel able too to pitch in with much mirth and humour.

Anyway don't mind me, I am musing out loud why a poster would be drawn to such a thread to be miserable and make themselves more miserable.

But hey ho! On wards and up wards. Technology is so mind blowing these days for all we know we could be engaging with strange bots who are triggered by certain words to spout out same repetitious stuff...Xmas Hmm who knows Xmas Grin
We all have our cross to bear - even the innocent Brexit Arms thread.

elf, I've said before, I'd rather hoped Leavers had moved on from just being 'ecstatic' and could discuss the future however, since you're still using Santa smileys, moving on clearly isn't on the agenda.

time4chocolate · 10/01/2017 22:43

Semi - thanks for that Wink, that one's bad enough, however, I think it was actually this one that has burned itself into my brain - Shock!!

Tryingtosaveup · 10/01/2017 22:45

Gin and Tonic please, lots of ice.
I started to come on this thread for some light hearted discussion with other leavers.
I felt attacked.
Why don't the remainders open their own pub.
I think the economic news since the referendum has been good. And I am cheered by that.

TopCat2017 · 10/01/2017 23:01

Still not put off pork scratchings, Hameron was a berk anyway.

surferjet · 11/01/2017 09:45

Just seen the March in March' thread.
When will they give up?
The only thing that's happening in March is A50 finally being triggered!

I'd bet my bottom dollar A50 isn't triggered in March.

surferjet · 11/01/2017 09:54

It will be. No doubt about it.
But carry on with your anti-democracy march.
For a country who prides itself on being fair & democratic we're becoming a bit of a laughing stock with all this 'I don't like the result' shite. As usual, it's only democracy if certain sections agree with the result.

mathwithbaddrawings.com/2017/01/11/why-are-mathematicians-so-bad-at-arithmetic/#more-5652

Why mathematicians struggle with arithmetic. Why accountants are bad at bookkeeping. Why economists struggle of relying on the predictive quality of economic models. Why lawyers have long since lost interest in Art 50.

That pig needs some lipstick time4.

Bearbehind · 11/01/2017 10:04

See you back here after the Supreme Court ruling then surfer

I'm convinced A50 won't happen in March, not because we won't ultimately end up leaving the EU but because TM hasn't got a fucking clue how to actually get us out.

The Supreme Court preventing the government invoking A50 might actually be what she's pinning her hopes on.

All this 'democracy has spoken' is bollocks. Democracy hasn't 'spoken' about 'how' to actually leave and no one seems to have a clue how it can actually happen in practice.

Inkanta · 11/01/2017 10:07

Oh goodness Bear Smile - what are we going to do!

Am I missing something? If the Supreme Court rule that approval by parliament is needed to invoke A50, then the government will put it to parliament and they will approve it (just like they agreed the amendement to Labour's resolution to say that the referendum result will be honoured). It might slow things down a bit but nothing more.

WrongTrouser · 11/01/2017 11:57

Love the way some of the remainers in that Guardian article thought that leave would only get a small protest vote. So totally in touch with the man and woman on the street then Grin

If you'd judged it that wrong and were totally shocked by the result, wouldn't you have just the tiniest tad of humility and admit to yourself that perhaps you needed to try to understand the views of your fellow countrypersons a bit better, rather than just blundering on insisting you are right without any attempt to allow any new thoughts, ideas, perspectives into your brain?

surferjet · 11/01/2017 12:10

Oh let them carry on whinging - it took us over 40 years to get out so let them spend the next 40 years trying to get back in ( not that the EU will exist in 40 years but still Grin )

OP posts:
Bearbehind · 11/01/2017 12:23

You're not missing anything wrong, I'm just pointing out that I don't think there's a cat in hells chance A50 will be invoked in March.

I'm not saying it won't happen but TM needs to buy some time to actually come up with a plan; the Supreme Court ruling would make that happen if it went against the government.

On your other point, I've been trying to 'understand the views of my fellow countrypersons a bit better' for 7 months now but in that time I've not heard anything that reasssures me the fallout of leaving is going to be worth while.

It's all still, yeah we're leaving, screw them, they need us more than we need them, rhetoric. I'm happy to listen to new thoughts, ideas and perspectives, it's just that they are sadly lacking round here.

Bearbehind · 11/01/2017 12:24

^^ I'm not saying it won't happen ever that is

Just not in March

WrongTrouser · 11/01/2017 12:34

I wish I had your sangfroid surferjet Smile. I try, but it doesn't come naturally to me.

Ontopofthesunset · 11/01/2017 12:35

The thing is, you can listen to and understand the views of your fellow countrypeople, but still conclude that they are wrong.

The whole idea of a thread where people just say "Isn't it great we're leaving?" is a bit odd really, as it's such a huge and complex matter whichever way you voted. So even if you think on balance leaving the EU is the better choice for the UK you'd have to be concerned about the attendant uncertainty and risks - not least that almost half of the people who voted are deeply unhappy about it.

It's not a football match and neither is the British democracy run on football match rules. So people who continue to protest against a decision that they consider to be catastrophic are not poor losers or whingers - they are deeply concerned democratic voters following their consciences.

missmoon · 11/01/2017 13:38

"Am I missing something? If the Supreme Court rule that approval by parliament is needed to invoke A50, then the government will put it to parliament and they will approve it "

If the Supreme Court says that an Act of Parliament is needed (rather than a motion), then it won't be that easy. Parliament won't block A50, but may impose conditions, e.g., staying in the Single Market, regular reporting, a vote on the final deal, etc. It will also go to the Lords, where there isn't a majority for leaving the Single Market either. In addition, the Supreme Court may say that consent by the devolved administrations is required, which will delay things further, and may lead to further conditions being imposed (not to mention the added problem that there may not be a government in NI to give consent). All of this takes time (longer than 2 months, in any case). Theresa May should have gone straight to parliament after losing in the High Court, and she would have had approval already.

missmoon · 11/01/2017 13:39

"But carry on with your anti-democracy march. "

How is a march anti-democratic? Surely the only countries that ban peaceful marches are dictatorships?

InfiniteSheldon · 11/01/2017 13:46

Obviously it's anti democratic because you are trying to over turn a democratic vote Confused it's not like protesting against public spending cuts or racism it's saying we are more I.important than you and we refuse to accept the majority choice. Dress it up how you like (time for Bertrands pathetic pie chart detailing the fact new born babies didn't get a vote?) But that's what you are doing and its actually quite shameful.
