If JC goes ahead with ordering Labour to block, then I'd like to see a GE.

Labour will be wiped out completely.

Bearbehind · 06/11/2016 08:43

mango your comment completely proves the point I just made.

JC has said Labour will vote against invoking A50 unless we retain access to the Single Market

That's not trying to stop Brexit, it's damage limitation.

It's realising that making this solely about immigration to the detriment of the economy is a disastrous path to pursue.

MangoMoon · 06/11/2016 08:44

Morningrunner - I completely understand it, thank you - no need for condescension.

rainyinnovember · 06/11/2016 08:45

Labour, making good choices for the economy - now that's funny Grin

Marmitelover55 · 06/11/2016 08:45

But it's not about subverting democracy/brexi. It's about a proper debate about what kind of brexit we want. I think most Remainers accept brexit will happen, but what it looks like is still up for grabs. TM put immigration at the top of the heap at the Tory party conference, but according to many leavers - including some of you lot - that's not why they voted to leave. The government's plan (or lack of) needs to be debated and scrutinised by patliament - after all that's what a parliamentary democracy is all about surely?

MangoMoon · 06/11/2016 08:47

I don't think the vote re triggering article 50 should be about anything other than triggering article 50.

So, yes, I agree with your post - Leavers & Remainers are coming at this from completely different starting points.

surferjet · 06/11/2016 08:49

Immigration was my top reason for voting leave, & I'm pretty sure it was for millions of others. TM knows this.

MangoMoon · 06/11/2016 08:49

A proper debate about what type of Brexit is desirable is perfectly reasonable - was there ever not going to be a debate about that??

This though is purely about voting to trigger A50 - nothing more, nothing less.
It's a legal formality.

Bearbehind · 06/11/2016 08:50

Why are you so happy to start a 2 year ticking time bomb with no semblance of a plan in place beforehand mango?

WinchesterWoman · 06/11/2016 08:51

Hard brexit IS brexit. There is no such thing as soft brexit.

Rainy very funny!

Bearnehind is wrong. It is about stopping brexit. If you don't believe it bear then listen to the people on YOUR side. They'll put you right.

WinchesterWoman · 06/11/2016 08:52

What is the plan now bear?

MangoMoon · 06/11/2016 08:53

The 2 year ticking time bomb doesn't start until after A50 is triggered.

This legal formality is purely about the permission to trigger A50.

Do the vote, agree that Brexit will happen & agree parliamentary authority for A50 to be triggered when the time is right.

rainyinnovember · 06/11/2016 08:53

I think Labour will be wiped out with that Brexit plan in a GE now.

WinchesterWoman · 06/11/2016 08:53

Mango yes - a formality

Bearbehind · 06/11/2016 08:55

Immigration was my top reason for voting leave, & I'm pretty sure it was for millions of others. TM knows this

And that is exactly why this ruling is a life line that will prevent this country going to the dogs because of narrow minded people who think this way.

All this 'will of the people' bollocks boils down to the fact you think the 'majority' voted because of immigration and that's simply not true.

Once you deduct those people you have gone to great lengths to state their vote wasn't because of immigration from the 37% of the population who voted leave your left with a considerable minority who want to sell the economy down the river over immigration.

Thankfully that won't happen now.

rainyinnovember · 06/11/2016 08:57

I honestly do not feel it is narrow minded to have concerns over uncontrolled immigration.

It's that word 'uncontrolled' I'm uncomfortable with.

surferjet · 06/11/2016 08:59

The world is changing, people are sick of being bullied by the lefty thought police who tell us how wrong & ignorant we are.
& we're being told how bad we are by people like Keith Vaz who pays for rent boys behind his wife's back.

We voted for change & we're going to get it, so stick your pie charts & petitions up your arse.

Bearbehind · 06/11/2016 09:01

Yes this could potentially stop Brexit if the debates lead to the conclusion it's going to be too damaging but I doubt that will happen.

All this does is temper the overriding priority being immigration and that's why so many of you on here are furious about it.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 06/11/2016 09:05

Did anyone else, when they were about 13, used to pretend in long inane phone conversations with other children that they were sharing drinks and food? Ooh, I'm sending you some of my chips now, can you taste them? Etc. This inane thread reminds me of that. Grown adults, wondering why everyone thinks they're stupid, going oooh immigration ooooh mine's a pint, ooooh I'm sick of the 'lefty elite' thinking I'm stupid.

rainyinnovember · 06/11/2016 09:08

What do you want to drink, Seek? Grin

surferjet · 06/11/2016 09:10

Don't read this thread then? Hmm

OP posts:

Do the vote, agree that Brexit will happen & agree parliamentary authority for A50 to be triggered when the time is right.

You are spectacularly missing the point the mango

'The time is right' is when there is a plan which parliament is happy with.

Much as you want it to be, the vote isn't just to say 'yes government you invoke it when you see fit', it's to give them permission to pull the trigger.

Bearbehind · 06/11/2016 09:14

Ahh. Lost the last bit

To pull the trigger when it's 'safe' to do so
