We are now in the throes of a right wing agenda willing to bring down the country for its own ideological beliefs. Bad things happen when good people do nothing. I for one will stand up so lest my children say I did nothing.

A brexiteer was murdered by a remained for his vote. Stop encouraging this kind of fascistic response.

TheElementsSong · 16/10/2016 07:53

Remainers will not be happy until their continual talking down of the UK economy and all its prospects ahead drive the country utterly into the gutter.

But Winchester surely your "clear democratic mandate" shows that there are an overwhelming majority of Leave supporters - why can't your overwhelming majority "talk it up, talk it up, talk it up"? Are you saying you're not overwhelming in number, in which case whither your "clear mandate"? Or are you saying that somehow Leavers are in any way inferior in ability, economic nous, strength of will or perhaps psychic super-power, such that despite their greater numbers they are collectively weaker than Remainers? What a lack of your faith in your fellows!

Despite your confusion over the definition of "fascist" we presently still have freedom of speech for any quantity of "talking up" people wish to engage in, and furthermore people are also free to put their own money where their mouth is, so they (and you) can go ahead and spend us out of recession, work themselves as hard and as long as they want to build the glorious new project, and (as suggested by Larry) invent brilliant new export opportunities that will eclipse anything these islands have done so far. What people are presently not free to do is demand any of those things from others who do not wish to do so - that would be "fascist".

lostowl · 16/10/2016 07:53

In response to an earlier post: I voted Brexit and didn't want the Iraq war... the 2 aren't mutually exclusive.

TheElementsSong · 16/10/2016 07:56

Golly, who was WW's post of 07:48 addressed to? Shock

MagikarpetRide · 16/10/2016 07:56

But I suppose all those foreigners who've been killed and attacked since Brexit were fair game eh? winchester

WinchesterWoman · 16/10/2016 07:56

You probably haven't noticed but there is a silencing going on on brext good news element. By the BBC especially. Every positive economic indicator was ignored. I guess you read the Guardian - that too.

WinchesterWoman · 16/10/2016 07:57

You mean the burglary?

lostowl · 16/10/2016 07:58

I think remainers are missing the point and I find it sad that they think that all brexiters are racist... all 17+ million of them. Realistically that doesn't make sense does it?

MagikarpetRide · 16/10/2016 07:58

No I mean the many many attacks there have been on foreigners that have taken place after Brexit. Or people who look foreign enough at least.

Kaija · 16/10/2016 07:59

Well said, elements.

In any case the only real talking down I have heard was from Liam "fat and lazy" Fox.

MagikarpetRide · 16/10/2016 08:00

lost I dont think all brexit voters are racist, nor do I think them all delusional or anything else.

Kaija · 16/10/2016 08:01

Lost owl, who has said all leave voters are racist?

TheElementsSong · 16/10/2016 08:02

By the BBC especially. Every positive economic indicator was ignored. I guess you read the Guardian - that too.

Anymore stereotypes you want to add while you're there? I get my news from many sources, thanks.

I must say I'm puzzled by this "silencing" because I have definitely heard reports of the good economic indicators on BBC News as well as other news outlets. Unless by "silencing" you mean "they also report the bad news".

larrygrylls · 16/10/2016 08:03

Elements is right. People can say what they like. It is their actions that will matter.

I find the xenophobia and racism accusations a bit sickening, though. I have seen very few (any?) threads about the virtually openly anti Semitic Balkan states being welcomed into the eu.

Kaija · 16/10/2016 08:11

Where are the xenophobia and racism accusations though?

There is no doubt that there has been a rise in xenophobic and racist attacks since the vote. Drawing attention to this is not remotely similar to saying all leave voters are racist.

WinchesterWoman · 16/10/2016 08:12

Elements what uk paper do you read mainly if you don't mind me asking

You are talking bollo#is about the BBC by the way

TheElementsSong · 16/10/2016 08:15

I find it sad that they think that all brexiters are racist... all 17+ million of them.

Well don't be sad, Remainers don't think all 17 million Brexiters are racist.

In fact, it seems the only people say that "Remainers think all 17 million Brexiters are racist" are... .

Larry you can start some threads on the subject if you wish and I for one would be very interested. IMO though it does no one any favours to deflect from the darkening atmosphere here by complaining that other people are worse - it's not a race to the bottom.

WinchesterWoman · 16/10/2016 08:15

Kaija there is doubt - the rise in hate crimes is 'reported' and of course means crimes 'both ways'. This is one of the most tolerant countries in the world. Talking down again.

Kaija · 16/10/2016 08:16

WinchedterWoman, what is the good economic news that you feel is being hidden from us? I personally am very very keen to hear good news.

WinchesterWoman · 16/10/2016 08:16

It's people phoning up a hotline to report with no evidence required. Remainders can just phone up to report a tweet that triggers them and its a 'reported hate crime' on the stats.

WinchesterWoman · 16/10/2016 08:19

News on business confidence, pmi indicators, housing market activity, jobs, positive comments from Nissan, benefits of falling pound, date movements etc

TheElementsSong · 16/10/2016 08:21

Elements what uk paper do you read mainly if you don't mind me asking

Honest answer? Mainly the Telegraph! I'm not of their target political persuasion though. The Guardian occasionally has flashes of brilliance (generally The Long Read is excellent) but the quality of their commentary has often been poor (for a long time, before the referendum even). Post-ref I go to Red's thread for relevant links to any source.

You are talking bollo#is about the BBC by the way

I disagree, as I said I first heard the reports of (say) unemployment down while listening to the BBC Breakfast News.

Kaija · 16/10/2016 08:21

WinchesterWoman i think deep down even you know that's nonsense.

The figures in hate crime are very clear. Furthermore it looks as though the vast majority of abuse is going unreported. All of the EU national colleagues I have spoken to have received abuse over the summer, and this is for the first time after having lived and worked here for many years. None reported the incidents as they were all of the "why don't you go home" variety.

MagikarpetRide · 16/10/2016 08:24

I must have totally imagined the abuse I've received on the streets and being told that in order to get along I need to reading my dual nationality by so called friends. My neighbours must have not been physically attacked in any way. My dd's not British school teachers haven't been abused. My friend has not just been released from hospital after a very violent altercation by people trying to speed up his removal from Britain. Another friend wasn't beaten up for standing up for her student who was obviously not being abused.

I always love being reminded on here that we're all delusional Hmm
