Project Fear were wrong all along?

MrsPeterParker · 21/09/2016 20:29

With all the newspapers and economic reports screaming there is no/ only positive impact of brexit so far, do you think the Remainers were all wrong and needlessly projecting doomsday scenarios ?

When the government or the cabinet can manage to make a comment without it being denied or contradicted or just totally incompatible with something else they have already said, I might start taking them seriously.

Until then we are in limbo land with the Japanese have a better idea and understanding of Brexit than the people allegedly in charge.

Frankly if you are following what Brexit means - or doesn't mean - properly and trying to gauge whether Project Fear were right or wrong, then you should be aware of where we are in the process (in case you don't know, the government themselves haven't got a clue) and this in turn means the markets won't react further until there is something firmer or this start to look like it become a lot more prolonged and to be fought over (in which case over seas investors and UK businesses will have no choice but to start making firmer long term decisions which include the UK really not being a trading partner with the EU in any way). Clues to this, should start appearing next month as legal challenges to a50 start hitting the courts in their full force.

Anyone suggesting that Project Fear was incorrect, really doesn't understand whats going on. This is not a Remain or a Leave point of view - this is a point of view about understanding the post-referendum questions that are still ongoing and still becoming clearer (or in some cases becoming less clear).

We simply are not at a stage where we can make that assessment either way. We are still too in the middle of the situation to understand the implications.

Peregrina · 25/09/2016 16:57

I would have a modicum of time for the Leavers if they were prepared to call out the racists, but the majority of them don't do that.

Bearbehind · 25/09/2016 17:00

peregrina, when the most profile Leave voter on here clearly agrees with the racists that isn't going to happen.

It would seem they are what is carrying this whole disaster through.

surferjet · 25/09/2016 17:00

No I haven't given it much thought, I don't care tbh, Just happy we're out.
& of course I'd be disappointed if I lost my job as a result of Brexit, but as I know at least 20 people who've been made redundant over the years ( nothing to do with Brexit ) I'd just have to accept it.
I don't know how old you are but you appear to have very little life knowledge. If you're 21 then I understand, but most adults know that people lose their jobs all the time for all sorts of reasons, most often as a result of technology, online banking/ shopping etc - we just don't need the jobs we did in the past.
Life is constantly evolving - we're not in the EU anymore & we'll get on with it.

Bearbehind · 25/09/2016 17:03

surfer I have no doubt this is a pointless question, but, aside from getting rid of foreigners, can you give even a single reason why you're so happy to be 'out of the EU'

What was so bad about it?

RedToothBrush · 25/09/2016 17:04

Surfer, it shows that you haven't given it ANY thought. I think saying you haven't given it much thought is rather over stating yourself.

And news flash. We ARE still in the EU.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

Peregrina · 25/09/2016 17:07

I am a damn sight older than 21 surferjet and I suspect a good deal older than you. I strongly suspect that I was working and bringing up a family when you were still in nappies. Yes, we lose jobs all the time, but only a fool would vote to lose jobs without trying to find a replacement.

You keep saying 'We are not in the EU'. Have you told Theresa May that? She is at the moment somewhat exercised in trying to work out the best way to start the leave process.

surferjet · 25/09/2016 17:14

Bearbehind
I do not want to 'get rid' of foreigners - I want immigration controlled - which is sensible.

What was so bad about it?
😂😂😂😂😂, please stop - have you heard of Greece or Italy? - check them out & see how they've fared in the EU.

smallfox2002 · 25/09/2016 17:16

"No I haven't given it much thought, I don't care tbh, Just happy we're out.

I imagine you don't give anything much thought, from the vacuousness of your posts on here you certainly confirm my bias on the intellectual capacity of leave voters.

Bearbehind · 25/09/2016 17:18

Really surfer- did you do any research before you voted? Hmm

Do you even have the smallest idea of what you are talking about?

surferjet · 25/09/2016 17:37

I did enough research yes. just because I don't want to waste hours of my time arguing with anonymous strangers doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about, I know plenty.

smallfox - I'm happy you give my posts so much recognition, I'd like to say I speak for the millions of leave voters, but sadly I don't.
You may want to read up on very very posh people like Jacob Rees-Mogg to get a broader feel for what a Brexit voter looks like.

RedToothBrush · 25/09/2016 17:40

The reality is this:

a) The EU could collapse.
b) The UK could get a deal that's total arse in order to preserve the EU in its present form with a view to ever closer union.
c) The EU could make huge concessions to the UK which may threaten the long term viability of the EU because they would have to abandon undermine their key principles one way or another.
d) We could end up staying in the EU for one reason or another - most likely a massive reform of the EU some sort (a new two tier system) or because of a massive UK constitutional crisis caused by an ill thought out referendum (Good Friday Agreement or the Scotland Act are your biggest problems here).

Now if know which of these we are going to end up with, then I'd like you to consult your crystal ball for me and give me those illusive winning lottery numbers.

Say 'we are out' and to get on with it, shows you just don't understand I'm afraid.

We are not. The UK is a member of the EU. Still.

Bearbehind · 25/09/2016 17:43

surfer if you know so much you might think about sharing even a glimmer of it because, as it currently stands, you're singlehandedly upholding the belief that the vast majority of Leave voters were bigots who thought a Leave vote would further their prejudiced cause.

You waste countless hours on this forum (as we all do) so quit with the I'm too busy to answer bollocks.

smallfox2002 · 25/09/2016 17:43

Yes Jacob Rees Mogg is exactly what a brexiter looks like, he still thinks its 1935.

Peregrina · 25/09/2016 17:47

At least Rees-Mogg is more up to date that Fox, who still thinks it's 1860.

Bearbehind · 25/09/2016 19:00

surfer you and your 'happy' ilk disgust me.

If you had a genuine reason for leaving I'd listen but you don't.

I only hope you get to reap what you've sown.

TheForeignOffice · 25/09/2016 19:16

surferjet "we're not in the EU anymore"

Tell me more of your insightful and fully informed political theories, please Confused

topsy777 · 25/09/2016 19:33

"waste hours of my time"
Exactly.

While there will be some who did/still do massively well out of being a member of the the 'club', for most, prosperity (or the lack of) comes from our own efforts and not from belonging to some clubs - just ask the Greek and the Cypriot.

Of course the correct answer of what would happen is there will be mass unemployment, the lights will be out and the internet will stop working. I shall not waste my time giving the 'wrong answer'.

surferjet · 25/09/2016 19:34

Bearbehind I'm sorry I disgust you I really am. I don't know what I can say to make you feel better about leave voters & Brexit in general? but I want the best for everyone in the UK post Brexit, ( yes even remainers! ) & I'm confident we'll be a better stronger country out of the EU. If you want to know why I feel that way, just google things like 'reasons to leave the EU' & I'll agree with them ( easier that way )
& yes I do waste hours on here ( just not on this board anymore - the arguing/going around in circles is too exhausting )

Peregrina · 25/09/2016 19:45

Typical cop out from surferjet. No arguments, doesn't even know the status of the UK at present.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 25/09/2016 19:48

I find the Guardian's weekly Brexit update quite a good summary of what has been happening

www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/sep/20/brexit-weekly-briefing-buckle-up-a-nasty-divorce-looks-inevitable

It's really not looking that food sadly.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 25/09/2016 19:48

Good not food!

IAmNotTheMessiah · 25/09/2016 19:49

It's a great advert for not having referenda on complex issues.

As someone once said "Think how stupid the average person in the street is. And then realise that half the population is stupider than that"

Bearbehind · 25/09/2016 19:54

I'm sorry I disgust you I really am. I don't know what I can say to make you feel better about leave voters & Brexit in general?

You're not in the least but sorry. Don't oatrinuse people.

If you were you'd atbjeast attempt to defend your stance.

The fact you don't

Bearbehind · 25/09/2016 19:57

Bloody Internet

You're not in the least bit sorry - don't patronise people.

If you were you'd least attempt to defend your stance.

The fact you don't is evidence in itself that it is indefensible.
