Terrible idea, terrible consequences. I would love to be wrong.

Hear hear to this:

news.sky.com/story/brexit-vote-not-legally-binding-say-lawyers-10498256

"The result of the 23 June referendum is only "advisory" and the Government should launch an independent investigation into the benefits, risks and costs of Brexit before making plans.

The barristers say there is evidence that the referendum result "was influenced by misrepresentations of fact and promises that could not be delivered".

They added: "Since the result was only narrowly in favour of Brexit, it cannot be discounted that the misrepresentations and promises were a decisive or contributory factor in the result." "

Yes Greenwood, hear hear indeed!

Thank goodness that some of the clever, clever educated people of the U.K. have ridden in like shining knights to rescue Britain from the clutches of the stupid peasants who were just too stupid to be trusted to make a decision.

Thank the Lord indeed that the great unwashed can be put back in their boxes, finally. Phew! Close shave!

Let's just hope we don't make the same mistake again of letting people think that every vote is equal,
The sooner votes are weighted according to income level & educational achievement the better, quite frankly.

Do you have an inferiority complex or something?

MangoMoon · 11/07/2016 10:32

No. Why?

an independent investigation into the benefits, risks and costs of Brexit before making plans.

I don't think that should happen, but if it does, I sincerely hope it won't be about money alone. Many of the reasons for leaving the EU can't be measured in that way. For a start, the wellbeing from finally knowing you're well away from a bloc whose structure and ultimate aims you strongly disagree with. I don't want to risk our country one day being under the control of a superstate (and even, perhaps, a one-world government in the long term).

This group clearly aren't impartial, as they neglect to mention that misrepresentations and exaggerations occurred on both sides of the debate and therefore its "influence" would have worked both ways.

I'm certain that when people voted, they expected the result to be carried out. So it would be a "misrepresentation" of what the referendum was for, to let people believe this if it wasn't true. What's the point of it otherwise? "Advisory" might as well mean "pointless" and "sham" if it's going to be undemocratically ignored. Particularly as I doubt very much these attempts to manipulate the outcome would be going on if "remain" had won.

Sorry for my shitty rant btw Greenwood - I'm in a temper and shouldn't have been unnecessarily rude like I was.

Apologies (sincere).

Brew No worries, Mango.

.LOLZ. Well said Mango! Star

80sMum · 12/07/2016 02:13

I heard this on Radio 4. For me, it sums up all that was wrong with the referendum.

MangoMoon · 12/07/2016 08:55

No need for a Star, quite the opposite really.

It was a daft rant with deliberately emotive wording which I've already apologised for.

I do feel strongly about the fact that some people think along those lines, but certainly not the majority.
Lumping everyone in together like I did was no better that a vocal few tarring all leave voters with the same brush.

Directing it at a single poster was also wrong, hence my apology.

Aerfen · 12/07/2016 10:46

You didnt lump 'everyone' in together and your humorous ironic post perfectly parodied the disgustingly elitist attitude of some of the disappointed Bremainers, the self entitled bitter ones.

You had no cause to apologise, as your post wasn't a personal attack but an attack on all those who make offensive remarks about Brexiters, attempt to denigrate their judgement, and now trying to do all they can to overturn the referendum result by devious means.
