Interviewed on Sky News - apparently the people have spoken..... But we don't necessarily have to listen.

I hate that man.

With a passion.

That Michael Rosen thing is really good! Summed it up perfectly

Nomojo2016 · 06/07/2016 22:07

He's an extremely good actor - all those pauses and catches in his throat - sickening...he might not actually lie but twists everything and makes excuses, nothing is ever his fault. Puppy dog eyes pleading "I did my best, please don't blame me" And that cheesy smile Grin. (Horrible dye job too)

I watched the Blair Rich Project too - I knew he had made a lot of money since he left office but didn't realise how much and all the ways he had made it. Bliar is truly repellant, Cherie is a money grabbing biatch too....

He may have done some good things during his time as PM but the way he governed was appalling....very sloppy with no proper plans in place for many things-letting thousands of immigrants in and burying the figures....no plan for after the Iraq invasion-the conditions and suffering the Iraqis have had to endure since.....

He won't come out of this unscathed but is so slippery, I doubt he will have to face any charges.

Absolutely Nomojo2016 - agree with every word of your post.

Slippersandacuppa · 06/07/2016 22:45

Piglet Read the Rosen thing - that's the point of it. That maybe we place too much importance on having charismatic leaders. Maybe we need someone more like Corbyn.

Surferjet · 06/07/2016 22:52

Great role model.

Tony Fucking Blair
Dowser · 06/07/2016 23:08

So, okay. He would make the same decision again.

Okay, how about you and mr Bush go first, mr Blair.

We will follow behind you in about a years time ....maybe!

To the poster who said most people supported the idea of going to war against Iraq in 2003, this is most definitely not my recollection. Wasn't there a huge 'stop the war' march? And 'Not in My Name' posters were everywhere.
And many of those who did not oppose it outright were ambivalent at best.
Even before that I am a Labour supporter and voter somewhere about the house I have a manifesto from before the 1997 general election with a direct quote from Tony Blair saying "we will NOT introduce tuition fees for university students, and in fact will introduce legislation to ensure this."
I felt that reneging on this was a first deep betrayal.
Then to take us into a legally dubious war against Iraq (a country where despite being ruled by a despot, women could go about their daily lives unveiled if they so chose, and held down important jobs outside the home, where there were sizeable Christian and Jewish communities living peacably among their Muslim fellow citizens, where there were even breweries' ffs, ) puts him on the same level as the tyrant that was deposed, IMO.
And those things above about life in Iraq before the war? All gone for good.
Iraq is a broken country and we are tarred as warmongers throughout the Muslim world.

Lottielou7 · 07/07/2016 02:55

'I voted for him in 1997, my first Gen Election. I was completely taken in by his style snd charisma, and the whole Cool Britannia thing. What a mug I was.'

^^ yes, I could have written the same post.

Lottielou7 · 07/07/2016 02:58

Most people I knew were against the war and many of them protested.

Batteriesallgone · 07/07/2016 07:38

I went on the stop the war match - got a bus up to London, my first and only ever march.

I remember a lot of people saying things like 'maybe they know stuff we don't' about the reasons for war. I think a lot of people trusted Tony Blair et al to have made the right decision with all the facts even if it looked a bit iffy from the outside.

Betraying that trust so awfully I believe lead to a huge level of political disengagement from people, particularly young people, who figured well you really can't trust any of them can you.

It seems the Chilcott report does not actually provide evidence that could be used to mount a prosecution...

One snippet I heard yesterday was that MI6 has evidence of no weapons and they told the powers that be.. who did nothing , after which MI6 also did nothing... In other words someone in MI6 decided to stay silent when they had evidence the so called WMD threat was not real.

There is no place in hell that is suitable for whoever was that person. And they will be drawing a good pension.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 07/07/2016 08:04

It wasn't in his remit to rule one way or another.

The concensus seems to be however that you're right. The evidence isn't there to prosecute.

Won't stop the media trying to spin it though. They are all ready over simplifying the report according to some that have read it.

MangoMoon · 07/07/2016 09:04

I have been utterly fucked off with General Sir Mike Jackson too in all of this.

Watching him in the various news shows yesterday - he is taking no responsibility for his failings either.

It was an era where the govt chronically underfunded & under-resourced the forces, then committed them to fighting on 2 fronts as well as existing commitments; something they simply couldn't do in an endured operation scenario.

The 'can do' attitude of the forces was completely abused by the govt and the people in charge of the military.
The 'top brass' should have been pushing back & saying "no, not possible", but they didn't because that's 'not what we do'.

It's acceptable (and expected in the military) to work at surge for short periods, but we were at stretch anyway at that point & then worked at surge for years after with no end in sight & no let up; at the same time, they'd just dropped the wages of some trades via pay 2000 and completely under-valued the people with specialist technical knowledge by paying them the same as cooks, clerks & drivers.

Fucking shambles all round.

Raging.
