Why are Leave voters afraid of a second referendum? Don't they trust the results?

If you really believe in democracy and that the Leave vote was the will of the people, then surely you will be confident that a second referendum would have exactly the same outcome?

But Leavers aren't, are they - they're terrified of a second referendum because they know that the results would be Remain.

From which we can infer that there is actually a real lack of depth, of meaning, in the Leave vote, given that it would be overturned in a second referendum. Which totally supports the view that there should be a second referendum.

Good point OP.
We do need a second referendum considering so many Leave voters thought they were buying a sane deal. Unusual times, unusual decisions. Bring in the second one.

grassgreen
I remember your comments throughout the last week and you seem to be as delusional as ever.
The field I work in is already seeing a terrible withdrawal of funding from UK government and now the EU funding is going because they can't find long term science project until scientists relocate to some EU country. That's how science works.
You suggest I eat grass and work on grasshoppers and hope to some day find a cure for killing ladybirds?

Its kinda worrying as all part of the anti-expert / intellectual movement, where you get daily mail exposes on what they believe is wasted money when it actually has some real world impacts, or the research forms part of a larger program of work.

I voted leave and a'm pro a second referendum. After all we did it before. 1975 then 2016. So how does 2057 sound? We should have a good idea of how well we are doing compared to the EU by then, assuming it is still around and we haven't been invaded by the Scots.

I think this whole referendum was a bad idea in the first place. And to run it on a simple majority vote insanity. That fact that so many people were still dithering in the polling booth, not knowing where to put their cross and not even knowing what they were voting for shows this wasn't a resounding voice of the people moment, it was a finger in the wind moment. If the referendum was run last year, or next year the results may well have been different so to make such a monumental and irreversible decision on the back of this is madness. We must be the laughing stock of the world.

That isn't to say we should never leave the EU but a step like that should have only been taken with extreme caution and with the strong backing of the people, not just over half, many of whom might have voted differently next week. We should be booted out of the EU on the grounds of being too stupid to be a member.
