Wow what a week Grin
I'm still walking on air & soooooo happy we're leaving, just want A50 triggered ASAP!

"many within the EU see us as brave & forward thinking."

Who? Apart from Marine Le Pen, of course...........

sorenofthejnaii · 01/07/2016 11:01

And we will get Free Trade - with the rest of the world

What do you think we'll see with the EU? And what will they want in return?

imother · 01/07/2016 11:02

Judy we do have some manufacturing in this country accounts for about 9% of GDP afair.

We needed a boost for democracy because democracy was being eroded by our membership of the remote and unaccountable EU.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/07/2016 11:03

bert Trump and Putin, obvs!

I'm still happy. & I know everything will be just fine. Wouldn't it be nice though if we all got together in 5 years just to see how things are? Maybe we can laugh at the things we've said here?
sooner or later we have to go back to normal & get on with life.
Wine for everyone. Stay or Go - let's make the best of it together.

I have a horrible feeling that the OP will be back shortly to ask who Marine Le Pen is.

And that view is not based on her pro leave stance. It's based on the intellectual rigor she has shown on previous threads.

sorenofthejnaii · 01/07/2016 11:07

I suspect that post is not going to go down well.

disappoint15 · 01/07/2016 11:08

No, Lokis the Uk parliament and politicians are having a massive realignment - it's not edifying but it is HONEST and borne of sincerely held political views - something the EU autocrats and unaccountable MEPs could learn a thing or two from.

Imother, have you been following the news? Honest? Borne of sincerely held political views? You look at the behaviour of the lead members of the Leave campaign and you think they're HONEST? You think they mean what they say?

I do really wonder about some people's apparent ability to read only half the words in a sentence and make them mean what they want them to.

imother · 01/07/2016 11:09

soreno

I don't know what the free trade vs free movement agreement will be obviously without a functioning crystal ball!

But there is one clear fact - we have a trade deficit with the EU. That is, we buy more from them than they do from us. So they have more to lose from trade being stalled than we do.

If the EU hamper trade with the UK it will have a devastating effect on the EU economy as much as the UK's. That will create more pressure for the EU to break up. The EU will not want to risk that any more than we do.

imother · 01/07/2016 11:11

disappoint I meant in the sense that it is on show, transparent, open for all to see - instead of behind closed doors, as it is in the EU machinations - and believe me, there are plenty of those, it's just that we don't get to see them.

smallfox1980 · 01/07/2016 11:11

imother what a load of crap.

We will get free trade with the rest of the world.

Um, no we won't, because the rest of the world also happen to be in trading blocs too with conditions.

Also the "rest of the world" ok the USA makes up 15% of our exports, but the EU and countries that are have trade deals with it make up 59% that leas 26% for the rest of the world.

What are we going to export to them? Do you know what our main export is? It certainly isn't something that developing countries are too interested in buying.

Also "unaccountable MEPs" they are elected, they are accountable. On the "autocrats" do you know that they are appointed by the member states.

Drivel from start to finish, typical leaver understanding of economics shown.

sorenofthejnaii · 01/07/2016 11:11

It's the Prisoner's dilemma. Brinkmanship. Egos. A game of bluff.

(And I do know what the words trade deficit mean, thanks)

StrawberryandCreamPips · 01/07/2016 11:12

It always baffles me how people claim MEPs are unaccountable - er, no, they stand for re-election at regular intervals, like all MPs do. If you choose not to vote in EU elections that's your own fault; however, it then sounds rather silly if you jump up and down on the sidelines whinging about the nasty undemocratic EU.

CaptainBrickbeard · 01/07/2016 11:13

So surfer, you're 'walking on air' because things MIGHT be better in five years time.

And someone else thinks austerity is over in the UK - just as Gove launches his bid to be PM. Yeah, I'm sure that closing the gap between rich and poor is top of his agenda!

Liz09 · 01/07/2016 11:13

You all just need to move to Australia. Smile

We think it was a bad decision, but we still like ya! (Well, except for those weirdo republic-supporters).

BertrandRussell · 01/07/2016 11:15

You can vote for your MEP- your problem if you don't.

And don't get me started on "unelected EU commissioners"

EverythingWillBeFine · 01/07/2016 11:15

we will face controlled immigration
But the Tekegrsph article linked before says
'Being out if the EU is great. Here are 6 points to make it great. That includes high immigration'...,,

BigChocFrenzy · 01/07/2016 11:17

Most goods manufactured in Britain contain components or raw materials imported from elsewhere.
So, a falling pound can increase costs.
Manufacturers will try to cut other costs to compensate, like the wages bill.

The National Farmers Union have said they expect some food prices to rise next year. Clothing firms expect price rises too.
Fine for those with high disposable income; a very tough transition period for those whose budget was already under strain.

It is incorrect to think you have nothing to lose - if you currently receive income from a job / the state, then this amount can reduce while your costs increase.

CaptainBrickbeard · 01/07/2016 11:20

Having read your 'let's meet up in five years' post, surfer, I wonder if you have any idea whatsoever what you have voted for and why. Do you think this is all just a bit of fun? You don't have any positives, you have no answer to any of the enormous losses, you asked for good things about the EU and then couldn't formulate a response when you were told some of the benefits of being in the EU, you seem to have retreated to a position of 'who knows if this is a good or bad idea?' and you seem to think that's just fine. You are a perfect example of why this question should never, ever have been put to a referendum. You clearly haven't given any of it a moment of thought whatsoever.

Surferjet · 01/07/2016 11:24

CaptainBrickbeard yes I am happy. & excited, & maybe a bit scared, but overwhelming opimistic.
Everything is changing. I've changed since last Friday. I don't even look at the rest of MN now because nothing else interests me ( & I doubt I'll ever care about mother in law problems again Grin ) this is massive, & it's exciting.

OP posts:
sorenofthejnaii · 01/07/2016 11:24

There is a possibility that Government income will decline. Even last night on QT, Douglas Carswell was still going on about extra NHS income.

I honestly think some politicians don't understand how the Government gets money. Even if we aren't spending £8 billion on the EU, we still have to get money from somewhere. Or spend less. Or borrow (with a decreased credit rating which makes borrowing more expensive)

sorenofthejnaii · 01/07/2016 11:25

It is massive. Is there anything worrying you at all about it?

Bearbehind · 01/07/2016 11:26

surfer you're doing nothing to dispel the thought most Remaners have which is that many Leavers voted for unicorns and fairy dust- it's a joke.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/07/2016 11:27

Honestly, I think some people would hear the 2 minute warning and be saying 'well, change is good, this is massive and exciting!'

Surferjet · 01/07/2016 11:27

you clearly haven't given any of it a moment of thought whatsoever

Only about 3 years, & within the last 2 months almost 2 hours a day listening to both sides.
