YY Drum Thanks Its shit isnt it. I occasionally look at the Carillion Amey twitter feed. It never fails to be shocking. Families without kitchens and cookers for weeks and weeks I saw a serviceman on there doing his pieces at them because his toddler had to live on takeaways for a month. Its disgusting

I'm not telling anyone to shut up. I was asking what the desired outcome is? Because obviously re-running elections or referenda indefinitely isn't a working solution and since 48% voted remain I am flummoxed as to why a march would be needed for a sense of community.
Marching against how the country is being governed makes sense if you have aims eg if you are asking for any future referenda on any issue to have clear deliverables or if you are asking for a GE since the two main parties are trying to parachute in new leaders.
But the march seems to be demanding that politicians tell us about our future in Europe. How can they do that independently of triggering Art50 and negotiating with Europe?
I am incredibly frustrated with both main parties. I like going on marches. I am just wondering what it is I am missing about this.

Helena we were lucky, we managed to purchase a house now and cope with the seperation because its actually far less stressful. I remember last time the company went to Afghanistan, I was heavily pregnant and received a phone call from a friend at camp at 2am, a water pipe had burst flooding the living room, it was like a swimming pool, my poor friend was in tears and was trying to stop the flooding. As I waddled to an absolute mess, but we managed to find the stop valve.

Took them 6months to resolve the damage and the water feed. The family had no water for 3 weeks!! We obviously don't tell our other halfs if we're up shit creek as its not fair when they are away, so we were all letting her and her 3 children shower and bathe at our houses and take home massive bottles of water.

They are shocking!

Drum thats disgusting. Sad Angry

ImGoingToTeabagYourDrumKitDale · 01/07/2016 23:47

Lucky for us our unit welfare officers have always been amazing have pushed for change, but they also hit Brock walls with SFA.

Our last welfare officer and DP's company pulled my other half off the front line and flew him home from Afghan before he was actually ddue home shortening his tour by 2 weeks, when I was told I'd be induced.

It's swings and roundabouts with the Army.

My great grandfather died in the Somme. I think this is the absoute right week-end to protest the importance of staying in the EU.

whydidhesaythat · 02/07/2016 11:39

I think it is tasteless for either pro or anti EU folk to try to claim the moral lessons of Ww1, for their own side. It offend the other side unnecessarily

It is also a bit silly because anniversaries are no less significant 99 or 101 years ago than100 years ago, and we had little coverage of this Particular anniversary last year

If the pro EU team need symbolism there is plenty available.

Good luck with the march

whatisfair · 02/07/2016 13:21

Actually, I strongly believe that the disintegration of the EU (and Britain's departure from it) is -also- a question of war and peace. It is clear that many people think this is nonsense / irrelevant. I guess a lot of you think that war among (western?) European countries is inconceivable. Why is that? What role, if any, do you attribute to the EU in your answer? Same question again for Eastern European countries and, in particular, Balkan states.

For me, it's not a question about 'appropriating' symbolism. The whole idea that we can/should have a 'civilised' discourse about our membership of the EU without putting war (and avoiding it) at the very heart of it is bizarrely ahistorical and naively isolationist.

whydidhesaythat · 02/07/2016 13:55

Yes, of course that is the point of the EU.
we can say so in simple terms

whydidhesaythat · 02/07/2016 15:47

Sounds like the march was very positive and good humored

glitterbomb80 · 02/07/2016 15:56

We marched, with baby and dog in tow. It was peaceful, friendly, well-organised and diverse. Much like Europe.

whydidhesaythat · 02/07/2016 16:07

Great- the news says there was one in York also?

WidowWadman · 02/07/2016 16:37

Yes, there was one in York. Really good turnout, to, despite the rain. www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/14594650.Pro_EU_demonstration_in_York/

ApocalypseSlough · 02/07/2016 16:37

I marched andtried to upload a photo but it was so crowded- no internet. It was massive and very friendly and peaceful.

whydidhesaythat · 02/07/2016 16:45

Lovely

Feeling guilty for not being in York

Namechanger2015 · 02/07/2016 16:48

I was there too. Went by myself and it was lovely. Very friendly and safe environment, saw lots of children, babies in buggies and no jostling or pushing etc at all. Apart from the protest banners and singing it was very much like a nice day out in town!

whydidhesaythat · 02/07/2016 16:52

Good on you x

crossroads3 · 02/07/2016 17:07

I was there by myself as well namechanger Smile.

AntiqueSinger · 02/07/2016 17:11

Have just come back. It was lovely. Very positive atmosphere, everyone was very friendly and had convos with a couple of complete strangersSmile. All the hysteria about safety on this thread from the misery bunch was entirely misplaced. There were loads of families, children, toddlers holding placardsSmile and eating ice creams along the route. Loads of people, I reckon between 40 - 50 thousand. The most uncivilised bits were the placardsGrin. I include pics of some of my favourites!
