A bit iffy to choose the weekend when many will still be commemorating the battle of the Somme confused Many remembrance events are taking part in Saturday. Could have chosen a better weekend!

I agree and I'm a remain voter.

OP you aren't the thread police and as long as it is within MNHQ guidelines then posters can post what they want.

The posts have been very tame compared with what leavers have been called on various threads

xmasadsboohiss · 01/07/2016 09:54

No I know I'm not the thread police but we all live in this country (and are not just governed by MNHQ guidelines presumably) and I think if things are going to move forward in a positive way we should at least try to be civil. I have no doubt there's been mud slinging on both sides - doesn't make it right though.

I brought up the Somme, I'm a remain voter! It's just not right, thousands of men died to protect democracy and you chose 100years since to March against it. That's all.

RoseDeGambrinus · 01/07/2016 10:26

The men at the Somme didn't die to protect democracy, they died because their leaders on both sides cared more about their own power struggle than avoiding mass slaughter, and they were aided by jingoistic propaganda.

ImGoingToTeabagYourDrumKitDale · 01/07/2016 10:30

Each to their own, I won't argue about the reason thousands of men volunteered and their personal reasoning for doing it. I mean if you want to tell the war dead they died for egos that's your pergotaive, but many went over the top with the self belief they were doing it for Britain, for democracy and to protect their families back home.

Personally I can't think of a more fitting memorial than seeing democracy in action ? With the added poignancy that the poor sods who died in Europe in a war they didn't understand would most likely support anything to prevent those horrors again.

I know it's not perfect, but if the EU has helped prevent that, it was worth any number of straight bananas.

Pro patria mori ?

I obviously disagree, inciting civil unrest in a weekend of reflection sits uneasy with me.

But each to their own.

TheNaze73 · 01/07/2016 10:37

Only 36% of all eligible voters, voted for us to remain.

I really can't see the point of the match. As I've said before, I campaigned for & voted remain but, accept we lost. Need to move on now

TheNaze73 · 01/07/2016 10:37

March not match. Still annoyed we lost the vote!

LurkingHusband · 01/07/2016 10:41

Sorry, I missed bit about inciting civil unrest, could you highlight it for me, please ?

JaneG123 · 01/07/2016 10:46

again it needs to be emphasized there was no win or lose, it was NOT a competition

the referendum was advisory and parliaments decision is SOVEREIGN
this means there is no mandate/legal obligation to follow the referendum result

again the detail and facts are not well appreciated by the voters.

HisNameWasPrinceAndHeWasFunky · 01/07/2016 10:47

I'll be there with DC, exercising our democratic right to protest.

ImGoingToTeabagYourDrumKitDale · 01/07/2016 10:50

You don't think it's going to go ahead without issue or backlash do you? Oh gosh....good luck!

HisNameWasPrinceAndHeWasFunky · 01/07/2016 10:58

I'd love to meet up with other MN'ers esp as I'll have 5 & 8 yo with me

The march just says "from Park Lane" which is quite long.

Shall we arrange a meeting point for 10.45?

How does on the park side of Park Lane opposite the Hilton sound? Too far south? I don't have a clue where on Park Lane they will be meeting.

What signal shall we have to recognise each other? Grin

What by protesting because you didn't get your 'own way'

LurkingHusband · 01/07/2016 11:01

No. By having the freedom to protest. Whether it's about the colour of postboxes, or a referendum result.

So you think there are people here planning to break the law ? What a nasty accusation.

HERE IS A MEET UP THREAD TO HOPEFULLY COORDINATE A MEETING OF MN'ERS FOR TOMORROW

I don't have a clue where on Park Lane they will be meeting.

The Facebook page says 30 Park Lane is the meeting point.

ImGoingToTeabagYourDrumKitDale · 01/07/2016 11:09

Oh lurking give over...Hmm

If you dint think this protest is going to look like a long line of ducks for far right fascists to attack, your naive.

HisNameWasPrinceAndHeWasFunky · 01/07/2016 11:11

ah 30 Park lane is the London Hilton :)

ARumWithAView · 01/07/2016 11:17

Nice bit of scaremongering and intimidation there.

So we shouldn't engage in lawful protest, because you say the right-wing fascists won't like it? True democracy in action!

ImGoingToTeabagYourDrumKitDale · 01/07/2016 11:18

No crack on you. Take your children, have grand time .Best of luck Smile

Teabag, your attempts to intimidate and scare people are a lot less subtle than you seem to think. The fact that you're clearly trying to insinuate that protestors and their children will be harmed, for having the gall to protest peacefully in public, says everything about your own respect for democracy.
