Us Remainers have questions.

We've been searching high and low for answers but can't find any.

  1. What's the plan? There's a plan right? We've just made momumental, life changing decision, of course there's a plan. You just wanted to surprise us with it, right? We're surprised, you can tell us now.

  2. Long term gain. All of this turmoil is for long term gain. The £ dropping of a cliff, markets crashing, job losses, racism and xenophobia, they're all worth it for the long term gains we can look forward to. That's what we keep hearing. But what are these long term gains? Because if it's wonky bananas they'd better gold plated, diamond encrusted wonky bananas or we're all gonna be really cross.

Asprilla I have never said that brexiters are racist. We have to be frank and say that the official campaigns stance on immigration attracted some far right muck but if 17m people in this country were racist then we would have an even bigger problem than we already have.

I genuinely cannot see any benefits in leaving and am interested in hearing some. The ones shared in this thread so far have been ill informed.

justbogoff · 27/06/2016 22:47

Oh, come on, you know you want to tell us the plan.

MotherOfBleach · 27/06/2016 22:47

^I am about as far away as you can get from a sterotypical remain voter. I have a low income job and a handful of o levels.
I do however like to think I try my hardest to make an informed choice, especially where really important matters are concerned.
The lack of any sort of plan in the event of a leave result led me to vote remain. Lo and behold, there is still no plan^

Snap.

I'd be quite easy to convince too. I have a very limited knowledge base on politics. It's something I pay attention to only when I have to. Ditto the economy.

I only learned about the FTSE 350 this morning.

Come, Brexiters, convince me. I'm hardly Stephen Fry, you can do it Smile

I am the same. I don't fit into this 'Remainer' stereotype. I'm poor and working class and never got more than an nvq.

smallfox1980 · 27/06/2016 22:53

I am an economist. I won't out myself but put it this way, one of the independent bodies I consult for was told that we were scaremongering when we offered our analysis of the post brexit consequences.

I think pretty much most of my profession advised on this in favour of remaining because the cost benefit analysis all pointed that way.

The economists "plan" to keep the UK prosperous is almost massively in favour of remaining, that or EEA. Outside of this, well there is decade of uncertainty that we can't possibly make plans for, mainly because we don't know what deal we will get from the EU, and then we won't know what deal we will get from the 50 other countries that trade with the EU, or how any of this will effect each industry in the mean time.

We gave you our predictions, more than 6 different bodies did, there is no economic master plan you were told that too.

Oh and I take all of your posts seriously, mainly because otherwise I'd have to take not of them seriously otherwise.

Asprilla11 · 27/06/2016 22:54

The Government has to implement Article 50 and then negotiate the UK's exit.

Now leave voters can have an opinion on how that should go and what should be done after it. But it's obvious they have no input in to that, it's a Government Policy Process, last time I checked they don't ask the electorate for their ideas.

TheSultanofPingu · 27/06/2016 22:56

Asprilla If the most respected Uk economist came up with a good plan I would welcome it, I really would.
Contrary to what you think I want this to work. It HAS to.
The problem is that most of the Uk's respected economists said Brexit was a terrible idea. I listened to them and made my choice.

TheElementsSong · 27/06/2016 22:58

But let's be honest here, even if the most respected economist in the UK came up with a good plan or argument you'd still rubbish it. You don't want to hear actual reasons, you just want someone to belittle.

Since the vote leave voters have been told over and over they are thick, racist, poor and unworthy of a vote. Why the hell would we feel like talking?

I don't know, why would you? You have won a historic victory. A golden opportunity to shape this land according to your grand vision.

Yet you're saying (on a thread specifically asking what the plan is!) that you're not going to answer because of the reasons you gave - it's only going to be rubbished even if it was the most perfect plan ever (well, is it?), everyone is biased against you, why even bother etc.

This is the "positive thinking" that Brexiters have been exhorting us all to partake in? What happened to "having faith" that "it's going to be wonderful"? You're sounding here like you yourself don't believe the hype. Or is your "faith" only for people who already exactly share your views and validate you?

If Brexiters are only looking for "Yes I Believe" responses, I have to break it to you but that's not positive thinking, that's not thinking at all.

AuntieFlaubert · 27/06/2016 22:58

I think the Brexiters are all friends of Turkey.

You see, a lot of people don't want 60million Turkish people being able to join the EU and come to the UK.

If we were in the EU we could veto their membership.
By leaving the EU we no longer have that veto so they can join it.

Now, to get a trade deal we will have to allow EU people including Turks to come here.

So Brexiters aren't racist at all :)

gunting · 27/06/2016 22:59

Asprila so you voted for something that had no plan? I agree, brexiters are risk takers I don't understand voting for something with unknown consequences.

I didn't fully buy into project fear but it seems to be project reality.

iniquity · 27/06/2016 22:59

Smallfox, did not any of these great economists warn the Tories not to agree to a referendum?
Thats what I don't get, there was always a 50% chance of Brexit winning. Obviously someone high up thought brexit could work.

Asprilla11 · 27/06/2016 23:01

AuntieFlaubert

Yawn, I gave my views on racism a long time ago. You sure like to generalise you remain lot Smile

smallfox1980 · 27/06/2016 23:02

The electoral commission report found that most people didn't know enough about the EU to make an informed decision.

The government had this report. The newspapers have it but haven't reported on it.

Essentially, Cameron took a gamble on winning to unite his party and get rid of the UKIP vote. The inside information on this is that he didn't even expect to have to call it because he expected to be in coalition with the Lib Dems.

Boris almost certainly didn't expect to win.

Its an enormous fuck up.

Asprilla11 · 27/06/2016 23:04

gunting

There is a plan, there is a process, but the public can't influence how it works or if it will succeed.

MotherOfBleach · 27/06/2016 23:04

Okay, so there's no plan and the consequences as yet are unknown due to there being no plan but what could these good and great things be?

Why did you vote for turmoil (which was a certainty)? It must be because you believe there is a fair chance of X happening. So what is X?

OP posts:
gunting · 27/06/2016 23:06

Mother surely it's not a vote for turmoil, I thought it was to 'control' our own ~destiny~ Confused

TheElementsSong · 27/06/2016 23:08

Guys, chill a minute. I genuinely want to hear what Asprilla wants us to achieve here (and I think she's the only Brexiter who has even showed up to the thread so far) so let's give her space.

Nothing I say will satisfy you, I had my reasons (rightly or wrongly) and I've made them known. My reasons won't be the same as other leavers, neither will all remainers have the same reason.

Asprilla11 · 27/06/2016 23:11

Although it may change at the weekends, I'm not a woman Grin

Oh holy fuck, here we go again. "I won't talk to you because you're all going to be mean, you're all going to be mean by making generalisations about all of us." Wait, what?

Is it any wonder I'm getting frustrated?

TheElementsSong · 27/06/2016 23:14

Although it may change at the weekends, I'm not a woman

Oh, sorry, duly noted.

MotherOfBleach · 27/06/2016 23:15

The only reasons I can find on other threads are that it will get better and we should all look to the long term gain.

The only reasons I can find in RL are wonky bananas and 5 eggs (everyone in the shop at the time nodded in agreement with this, outraged that we are not allowed wonky bananas - he seems like a reasonably intelligent, normal, nice enough bloke but for his overwhelming desire to buy ill shaped fruits)

What is this long term gain I can look forward to? I believe the part that it will get better. I am certain that we will recover and gp back to how things were in the start. It's the long term gain I am struggling with.

Asprilla11 · 27/06/2016 23:17

But I've already said my views are on here, I made a bloody thread!

But you won't be happy, I am a thick Geordie who doesn't work in the world of finance. I voted more with my heart than my head.

smallfox1980 · 27/06/2016 23:19

The hopeful situation might be free access to the single market off all goods and services, limits on freedom of movement, and the ability to make trade deals on our own.

One of the more complex elements of this would be that if we make trade deals of our own the other countries would have to adhere to EU standards on at least products brought into EU boundaries, otherwise it would be hard to stop the whole market flooding with products that don't follow these standards as good sold in the UK would be able to be transported across EU borders without checks, or cost other countries large bills in enforcement because we decided we wouldn't do it.
