To think Juncker is an arrogant fucker

I was/am a staunch remainer and, like many, am shell shocked at the result. IMO leaving the EU is quite frankly a disaster for this country's economy. The harsh truth is we simply don't have enough desirable commodity to be able to trade on the world stage that puts us in a strong position to negotiate favourable terms.

But I watched in horror at Juncker's speech on the eve of the referendum with his bully boy stance and tactics - which has only intensified since the result.

The best result the UK can hope for now is that Brexit will cause a domino effect which means the entire EU will be forced to reform under a new president and government.

The Czech Republic has now spoken out, criticising Juncker and calling for his resignation. It's a long shot but let's just hope and pray that other countries follow suit.

I voted for an MEP, with a say in that.

I am neither a member of the Conservatve party, nor a Conservative MP, so have no say in who the next PM is. That's democratic?

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 29/06/2016 20:44

And it's not like we have a massive choice of MP, with FPTP we pretty much have a choice of two; if you're voting Labour, say, you don't get a choice of Blairesque/ Corbynesque; you get, vote for the donkey in the red rosette or the Tories win.

UK 'democracy' is wildly overrated. IMHO.

he EU should instead act on popular concerns such as securing the bloc's borders, creating jobs and improve internal security, she said

this sort of comment makes me seethe with anger.

Does anyone agree that all this sort of thing should be done before you merge countries together?

Like the facilities on offer in the UK, why not shore them up, provide extra funding and get shit hot - head counters in BEFORE you drop working rights to very poor EE countries?

Cart before bloody horse. They are throwing us under the EU Juggernaut. They are all mad.

You vote for one MEP out of 751 and only half - 376 - had to agree to Juncker - who was presented to them as the only candidate by the EU Council of leaders ...Hobson's choice...
Our prime minister, Cameron, was one of the 28 leaders who voted against selecting him.
We have 73 UK MEPs - if they all voted against Juncker it wouldn't matter.
Those 73 represent approx 65 million people - that's each MEP representing 660,000 people. Which is the same number in the whole of the EU - 500 million people represented by 751 - each MEP represents 670,000 people.

In the Westminster we have 650 MP representing 65 million - so 100,000 people.

And still we don't think the support of the MPs of each party alone is democratic enough to select leaders - they need grass root support too.
If you feel like your vote in the UK doesn't count petition for PR - start your own party etc etc.
But remember your vote for your MP counts 6 nearly 7x more than your vote for your MEP....and your MEP is more or less powerless...
