Why does Scotland want to stay in the EU?

Just that really. I'm interested to know why a higher percentage voted to stay in than in England.

Please list the latest Scottish inventions! Haha
Education isn't good- which is why you can't get consultants to work at regional hosps - no teaching assistants in our area due to cuts.
Houses not selling here. I'd like to know where all these million pound house owners work???
If you Are in Aberdeen good luck to you.
Must be nhs or insurance

22rew · 19/07/2016 14:42

good luck with the euro

MissMargie · 19/07/2016 14:46

Oh and I would like to stay with England and leave - uk

NSs rhetoric ' Scotland wants ' is just that, rhetoric 'Scoland wanted independence' ..... Except it didn't 😀

22rew · 19/07/2016 14:47

my daughters teacher is european she does not understand the kids and they don't understand her we cannot afford to train anybody as we have to pay membership bill everyday that is not creating jobs its ok for them who have had enough of the rain and loosing out to people who come here and take everything a lot of them don't pay tax send it by western union straight home and claim child tax credits for there kids back home were is justice in that the EU say we have to well they would

MissMargie · 19/07/2016 14:47

Leave Eu that should be

22rew · 19/07/2016 14:48

thats not just what i read in papers i know people that earn 30% more than me for same job as they don't pay tax

HirplesWithHaggis · 19/07/2016 15:05

22rew, read the article I linked. Last time round, the UK Treasury accepted that they are responsible for all UK debt, and that hasn't changed. So yes, Scotland would start with a clean slate.

22rew · 19/07/2016 16:03

its still like walking away without paying your credit card bill and the uk treasury which you are part of a bit like a joint bank account

prettybird · 19/07/2016 16:17

Hirples - s/he's obviously not read the article. Wink

But maybe before s/he does, s/he could try to find the Shift and punctuation keys in order to make the "stream of consciousness" more readable Hmm

HirplesWithHaggis · 19/07/2016 16:53

It's not a long article, it only takes a couple of minutes to read. Longer if you follow all the links to support the assertions, of course.

Agree re punctuation.

And I do wonder about these folk who don't pay UK income tax yet manage to claim tax credits. Confused Perhaps 22rew could elucidate?

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/07/2016 09:24

Jesus will you please use sentences and paragraphs.

While you are at it, maybe try not referring to Scotland and Scots as if we are a homogeneous mass.

Kaija · 20/07/2016 10:12

I love your style, 22rew. It's like a William Burroughs cut-up of the Daily Express.

IF Scotland remains in the EU, then Scotland is likely to take on refugees that have camped in the UK. As Scotland has numerous islands that need new settlers, I guess the new refugees can be settled (and funded) on the islands. Groups of muslim refugees will quickly make Scottish islands home to minarets and Islamic centers. Scottish will be second language to Arabic.
As for defense, Scotland will have to relay on the EU for its defenses, rather than England. Scotland will need to raise its own army for defense.
As for assessing the EU countries, Scotland will need to use ferries or air travel, as England would be a foreign nation.
does remaining the EU seem that attractive?

Anon1234567890 · 13/03/2017 20:18

The SNP know they cant flourish on their own. But they hate being run by Conservatives. So they are using the left wing EU as a pseudo life jacket to get Independence.

The irony is so funny. The UK leaving the EU will be a disaster so the solution is to leave the UK. ROFLMAO. I don't think the EU will even let them in.

LouKout · 13/03/2017 20:24

Islands will be home to islamic centres?

So what..unless youre a massive fucking racist?

twofingerstoEverything · 13/03/2017 20:57

Well said, Lou.

Scottish will be second language to Arabic.
And where do you even start with breathtaking ignorance like this?

Cantgetmyoldnameback · 13/03/2017 21:14

I've just read all of 22rew's posts out to DH (putting in full stops where they seemed to fit) - we're in hysterics here. GrinConfused

RortyCrankle · 13/03/2017 21:43

Well Scotland are seemingly more interested in doing 17% of their trade with the EU than the current nearly 70% trade with the rest of the UK. Makes total sense doesn't it? Err....

Anyway can't see Westminster agreeing to another indyref until after Brexit has been competed, so time to relax and hope that oil prices pick up.

MrsPeterDoherty · 13/03/2017 21:54

Makes just as much sense as Brexit, doesn't it?

Corcory · 14/03/2017 12:00

I know of quite a few stanch life long indy supporters who will not vote to leave the UK if it means becoming part of the EU! As one said to me yesterday - I'm not keen on the English but I'm even less keen on the Europeans!
Not my view may I add.
NS seems to have forgotten that the original SNP was founded on an anti EU stance and that has prevailed with many.
I also can't see these same people being at all keen on accepting the Euro. Scots are very proud of their own bank notes and it would be very difficult for many to be persuaded to change.

SapphireStrange · 15/03/2017 11:47

Please please please don't sweep 'the English' all together into one Little Englander lump!

London voted Remain by about the same margin as Scotland. Other English cities also voted strongly to Remain.

francisuk · 17/03/2017 21:41

Thanks timeandtide.

I am English, born and bred I love the UK and that is all of us.
I voted to remain in EU, well ok we don't all get want we want.

I think I understand the way many Scottish people think about independence, but the days have long since gone when the world did not know the difference between a Scottish, English, Welsh or Northern Irish person. We already have individual identity and we have strengths that when combined make us a pretty awesome group.

If I was Scottish I might think now is the time to break away, but I haven't really seen EU opening their arms too much to Scotland and there will be countries in the EU such as Spain that perhaps would not be too keen to show support that could fuel the Catalans wanting the same thing. On the other hand, the commonwealth/World offers a whole range of new opportunities and with the freedom to make our own deals could be very interesting and we can even benefit form the EU rushing through deals as short cut templates to making our own.

I would like to think we are out of the dark ages and that what ever happens we all work it out. I'm proud of the UK, our similarities pretty much out weigh our differences.

Chickenkatsu · 17/03/2017 22:33

22rew: I think that you need to get some help
