I don't want another attack on me I already feel battered and bruised from people on here -I was watching Muse 'Uprising'' at Glastonbury, they were bloody fantastic and the lyrics jumped out at me (maybe I am going mad I don't know) but they summed up what I feel about the EU and why I voted how I did. Worth a listen if anyones has a spare five minutes.

we must now prevent other countries

ominous choice of words...

queensansastark · 27/06/2016 16:01

I think leaving the EU will be fatal for any other country. They would be suicidal and stupid to try....they are in too deep already.

I think the UK is the only country that has a chance of making it work. It's not in the schengen zone, it's not using Euro.

Do you think the EU elite tried looking within themselves and maybe have some self awareness to understand that reform is required? That they are part of the problem and they need to adapt to become part of the solution.

glassgarden · 27/06/2016 16:02

they'll be working on their own versions of project fear then I guess

queensansastark · 27/06/2016 16:05

They will not allow a referendum for sure. But when elections come....

glassgarden · 27/06/2016 16:05

the EU agenda is to form an unedomcratic superstate
any reform would be counterproductive to the overarching goal
they want to member states to be locked down and obedient
negotiation is anathema to the EU elite

queensansastark · 27/06/2016 16:07

That's no different to the Communists in China. Or Putin in Russia.

time4chocolate · 27/06/2016 16:14

Queen - yes I think you are probably right but the choice to exercise that option will be no more. Yes, they have conceded today that there needs to be change, I can't remember the exact words that were said on that so please don't quote me but, it was along the lines of ....."we need sort out securing the bloc's borders, improve internal security and create more jobs....." Similarities there to what DC asked for before we got in this situation?

Damn just lost a whole page of writing...now I have to go.

Namehanger · 27/06/2016 16:42

Not project fear but project totally bloody deluded

Scared of the EU superstate, that is the reason there are no jobs in Barnsley. Of course that will be it.

Once upon a time there was a strong shipbuilding and manufacture base based in North England. Thatcher and successive governments policies decimated it. However, they were responding to market forces and now globalisation. Where you are s***d is that no government put anything in its place,.

This is not the EU fault it is the UK government, who created the need for austerity out of thin air so they could further there own agenda of shrinking the state.

MangoMoon · 27/06/2016 16:46

Here's an article from The Independent about how only 36% of 18-24 yr olds turned out to vote.

A lot of the hysteria on MN has been ageist, blaming the baby boomers for 'ruining the futures of the young'.

Hmmm...

http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/eu-referendum-brexit-young-people-upset-by-the-outcome-of-the-eu-referendum-why-didnt-you-vote-a7105396.html

caitlinohara · 27/06/2016 16:53

36%!!!! I kept meaning to look up these figures. That's appalling. I find the ageism on social media at the moment really upsetting, and illogical as well, that somehow people with more life experience have less valid views. Ironically, my 78 year old mother voted Remain and I voted Leave, so there you go. And we both vote Labour. Genuinely I think that the most interesting thing about this whole debate is that it is not Left vs Right, that people who voted and will vote for opposing parties in a general election may find themselves in agreement about the EU.

A4Document · 27/06/2016 16:54

Scared of the EU superstate, that is the reason there are no jobs in Barnsley. Of course that will be it.

If the government have their heads stuck in Brussels and London instead of looking at their whole country, it could be...

Woodhill · 27/06/2016 16:56

On fb the remainders want their MPs to reconsider. I want us to stay out as that was what the deal was. I didn't expect it to be a leave vote but surely the government has to accept the outcome?

My own dds were horrified that we voted out but I think you see things differently when you are younger

IPityThePontipines · 27/06/2016 17:10

What exactly does Peter Hitchens mean by "the revolution is unfinished"?

Is he calling for a violent uprising?

Namehanger · 27/06/2016 17:34

A4 - totally understand being upset with the London elite having feathered their own nest, but leaving the EU will hurt everyone not just them. London and Brussels are not interconnected.

The city of London falling in importance will mean less business, less investment which means the taxes receipt will decrease. Less taxes means cuts and a failure to invest in communities.

This was a protest vote, why did it not happen at the general election? Our first past the post election system has allowed a minority vote to run the country. A more representative election system would have meant people's concerns were dealt with.

MangoMoon · 27/06/2016 17:37

Of course he's not asking for a violent uprising - what an extraordinary extrapolation to make Confused

The revolution began with people marking bits of paper.
It will continue with democratic negotiations and democratic reshuffling & reimagining of our political parties & politics.

0phelia · 27/06/2016 17:54

Mango It fucking better or this whole thing was a waste of time and the opportunity will never arise again.

I'm furious that they are delaying this and plotting to ignore the people's vote.

The self serving gambling idiots in power have ignored us for too long. Ignored us and made life harder for those beneath them.

If they ignore this, there will be an uprising.

As for this vote hitting everyone, that's the point. All revolutions in history have hurt those who uprise as much as those who they target.

0phelia · 27/06/2016 18:18

I saw CEO for Brompton bikes and he seemed quite positive about the whole thing, he sees lots of good opportunities out of this.

Also Jenny Jones of Green Party looks at this as a huge opportunity to reshape British politics.

queensansastark · 27/06/2016 18:28

I think Remainers forget that Remain is not consequence free...they could be sleep walking into an EU dictatorship that uses power to grab more power for itself and exert control with no democratic accountability.

GreenishMe · 27/06/2016 18:45

It's so nice to find a place to hang out where I don't feel like Satan personified Smile

Has this referendum created another 'ism' do you think...as in Leavism? It feels like it at the moment.

Evilwickedmeanandnasty · 27/06/2016 18:49

I voted leave. As a small business owner struggling to survive in business, I think the following clip sums up everything our politicians should have said to the Brexiters and now, to the disillusioned Remainers... (First time posting so hopefully this will work!!!)

It didn't work!!! The one I saw had English subtitles!!! Will try and find it - it is worth the wait!

MangoMoon · 27/06/2016 18:55

Am gobsmacked at the continuing blame game & hand wringing going on around MN still.

It is unbelievable to me that people can whip themselves into such drama & hysteria.
Posters talking of 'staring into the abyss' ffs.

Staring into the abyss is when you literally are, surely?
When you've been handed your notice, someone's died, your marriage has imploded, you've been involved in a majorly traumatic situation, you've received devastating news about your health and many other actual tangible things.

A vote has happened, that is all.
A democratic vote.

We don't know what will happen next, but that is what we elect leaders for - to sort it out.

I am suddenly not feeling very charitable today, sorry, but hysteria & self-perpetuating hyperbolic drama aggravates me beyond belief; I cannot stand self pity.
Pessimism is a person's own worst enemy.
Prudence, caution, being circumspect etc are positive traits, but wailing, gnashing and grief wanking are not.

Grrr.

MangoMoon · 27/06/2016 18:56

I realise I have just brought down the tone of the thread.
Sorry guys Blush

GreenishMe · 27/06/2016 18:59
