I regret the way I voted.

After a long day reading Facebook (didn't announce on there that I'd voted out), colleagues talking and family (who do know how I voted) complaining, I really wish I'd voted to remain.

I read a few bullet point articles and felt swayed by the amount of money were were paying to the EU. But I feel as though I'd partly not researched enough and also believed the hype.

Seeing the pound falling and friends worried for their jobs etc, I feel as though I've done something really bad. In fact, I'm sure I have.

Does anyone else regret the way they voted, whichever way that was?

Voted out and proud of it. If you regret a decision based on a bunch of bankers making a buck on short selling then you probably need to take a long look at yourself in the mirror. Grow a backbone Ffs

LookingforMaryPoppins · 26/06/2016 17:47

I've not read the entire thread, the title says it all.

Words escape me, this was the most important political decision of our lifetime and you didn't bother to research and believed the hype.......

Good luck being governed by a right wing unelected PM. I look forward to seeing how you are planning to "take control" and make Britain great again.

We had one of the strongest economies in the world.

Thankfully I am able to sort dual nationality for my family and have a profession sought after by most worldwide countries.

We, like many other professional workers don't plan on hanging around and are moving overseas.

Katakus · 26/06/2016 17:47

If you genuinely regret it sign the petition petition.parliament.uk/petitions/131215
Or better still, start your own one for people who regret the way they voted because the info was misleading. There's time to ask parliament as EU exit has not been started yet.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 26/06/2016 17:48

I voted remain. I also accept that a fair number of leave voters did research and make a considered decision which I respect even if I disagree with them.
What this referendum has highlighted for me is the disconnect between Westminster and large parts of this country and the dreadful quality of political debate from both sides.
It was hard to cut through the BS from both sides and identify the core arguments and facts.
The key thing is to work together to sort this mess out.

wheelchairman1361471 · 26/06/2016 17:48

Yes it is true that you should feel ashamed for being complicit in the ruination of the UK and dismantling the union. However, Cameron must shoulder much blame for making the referendum happen in the first place and secondly allowing the public to make such an important decision. What are MPs for? Not many people knew what they were voting for or against. Your real crime is believing the pile of dung that BJ rammed down your throat !

PastoralCare · 26/06/2016 17:48

and if we wanted to "regain sovereignty" why are we still:

-in the UN
-in NATO
-in the Commonwealth
-int the WTO whose negotiation by the way are completely opaque and undemocratic and their tariffs affect us whether we like it or not www.wto.org/english/thewto_e/countries_e/united_kingdom_e.htm

Only North Korea has full sovereignty so to speak. All other nations give up some control in return for greater aggregate benefits.

And finally, Boris said that we shouldn't worry about trade and free movement of people implying that nothing will change. So what was the point of the referendum?

Blahblahblah1234 · 26/06/2016 17:49

Oh, and by the way it's morons that think their vote somehow doesn't make a difference that got us into this situation. You can't somehow imagine that other peoples' votes are the ones that swung it and that yours didn't. They all count the same. That's the way it works. Please, please don't ever vote again until you've got your head round that fact.

Craigie · 26/06/2016 17:49

No. You've made a dreadful mistake and we have to suffer the consequences.

TheMums · 26/06/2016 17:50

I’ve made a petition – will you sign it?

Click this link to sign the petition:
petition.parliament.uk/petitions/146588/sponsors/JcHmmRJjPGXFd6IGBc

My petition:

'individual' EU membership for UK citizens Visa free, work and study.

There is a need for people, especially the young, to be able to move freely for travel and broaden their horizons, education, employment.

The recent referendum was a protest about the country not providing the infrastructure and services for it's people before opening the doors to others. The referendum was advisory and not legally binding, and no one, not even the leave party expected the outcome. Individual membership will provide an income to the EU, allow free movement without additional paperwork and checks. It is not intended to be used for large groups to abuse a country's system, but to build friendships and bridges. Please tell your friends.

Evelyn72 · 26/06/2016 17:50

No, did lots of research before hand.

Floey · 26/06/2016 17:50

I don't regret how I voted, but as I met with a CEO on Friday who was going to sack 500 people after our meeting I very much regret how you voted. I'm sure the people of South Wales, who no longer have a buyer for Tat steel feel much the same but, like you, they could have done a bit more research before voting on a 'gut instinct'

Fif · 26/06/2016 17:52

The Daily Mail fuelled Brexit. I'm surprised they haven't suggested Kim Kardashian as our new PM

therightguy · 26/06/2016 17:53

I voted to leave, I'm ashamed to say I read the Sun and made assumptions based on that and what my mates thought, after seeing so many posts showing all the facts that were not shown in the Sun, I was appalled to hear that Wales, will now go without EU aid as Westminster does not fund them and havent done so for years, if I knew this before voting, I would have chosen to remain... I'm so stupid! if only were were given another chance!

rahulk007 · 26/06/2016 17:54

I am a proud remain voter and like many others, I am trying my best to see if there is a way out of this mess such as signing petitions, writing to the MP etc. Majority of Brexit voters in middle England voted for pride and prejudice based on false propaganda of hope and freedom. this is already taking a racial turn now as reports about thugs threading Polish people to leave the country are being reported! This vote has given legitimacy to racist people and it is somehow acceptable to be one since the mandate has gone in their favor! I am sorry but the brexiters will be accused by historians of writing one dark chapter in the world history just lIke the Fascist! Good luck to everyone!

C4thy · 26/06/2016 17:55

Firing two people before Article 50 is a bit of knee jerk reaction, no? We haven't left Europe yet and we may never actually leave the trading group....Fire them if your business is under stress but if you are only firing them because of the result then it doesn't sound like a good idea

pickledpears · 26/06/2016 17:55

For floey www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-36632815

woodie55 · 26/06/2016 17:56

No I voted after researching & I didn't look at the Swiss or Swedish root as I'm intelligent anough to know they were never in the eu as pointed out by the politicians the were out side wanting to trade , no I looked at the Norwegian point of view when they wanted a referendum on leaving and all I read was the doom & gloom their politicians were saying and funny anough it echoed ours telling us they be mass unemployment companies leaving in there droves, and so on but they were not swayed and voted out & guess what after the initial slump they pulled together and now are one of the richest nation in the area. So no I'm not guilty of voting out because I'm old anough to remember when it was just the common market a means of free trade with other countries, before they let bourocrats got involved with every aspect of living & if you look at it were not the only nation asking for a exit hence why the euro wants us to leave quickly and quietly.

mumindoghouse · 26/06/2016 17:56

Saddest thing is unleashing of racism where those that are racist believe they have mass appeal. That needs stamping out, but there's no-one at the helm. Add to that a weakened economy which may fuel the racist fire....I think people had genuine and justified concerns about the EU. I just think the consequences may be more far-reaching than a lot of Brexiters believed, and in the opposite direction of travel to what they believed and the referendum was conducted shamefully without any side explaining the ramifications calmly and rationally.

mumindoghouse · 26/06/2016 17:57

Don't regret my remain vote

Moseywoes · 26/06/2016 17:57

I admire your honesty but anyone that voted without doing their research is basically mad. This is not a general election, where you can change your mind in 4 years if it doesn't go so well. The leave voters have probably caused several years worth of pain and recession. There may be many legitimate reasons for leaving over the long term, but for the sake of my DS I am not willing to risk the economy short term. Apart from anything else, I want him to have the same opportunities to work in Europe that I had, maybe even meet his future wife or husband in Spain, Italy, France or the like.

This vote should never have gone to a referendum as no one can possibly assess all the ramifications. The fact we are likely to be left with Johnson or Gove as PM makes me want to weep. As does certain (I hope) limited instances of certain right wing groups using this brexit vote to legitimise racist behaviour. I know several Europeans at work all of whom no longer feel welcome here. It is a bleak time for the UK.

maxandmoo · 26/06/2016 17:57

I voted out, and absolutely do not regret it! But I am absolutely sickened by the vile abuse that some remainers have been slinging around!
I am not a racist, I have been educated to post graduate level, I do now live in the Midlands, but for a long time lived in the South East corner.
My reasons for voting leave were (in no particular order)
TTIP (for the love of God!!!!)
Has anybody asked where the manufacturing jobs keep going? No? To cheaper parts of the EU using EU grants and loans!!!!! These large companies will always work for the highest profits, and if you can re-locate for free? Well why the fuck not?!!!!
I think a lot of remainers need to understand that the EU works for the good of the EU, effectively re-distributing the wealth, which for the UK means asset stripping, as we have a lot of assets and wealth.
If anybody believes this to be untrue, do a little bit of research around the amount of money that has already been put aside to compensate British workers for jobs lost due to TTIP all ready for a rosy future.
I chose British democracy over EU bureaucrats, freedom and openness over cash.
So please, please stop assuming that anybody who lives north of Watford Gap, or anybody that earns under £50k is a toothless, pint swilling little England maniac.

If you regret your leave vote why not sign this?

Yarboosucks · 26/06/2016 18:01

Oh sweet Jesus. I am a Remain voter, I am despair. I do not regret my vote, I researched and read and then researched and read some more. I took time to understand the nature of the referendum and the implications of leaving. But some of you could not be bothered to do that… and now you are sorry?!? Well you have my contempt. My utter, cold, hard, contempt.

wheeze65 · 26/06/2016 18:03

Well said maxandmoo!

What's done is done, now is the time to stand together and work to make this country great again. No-one ever said it would be easy, but nothing worthwhile is easily gained.

pickledpears · 26/06/2016 18:06

Excellent post max.
