Brexit

to think the Remainers aren't going to take this lying down and we won't leave

A million plus more people voted leave than remain but still over 16 million voted in. And many of the people this will affect - the under 18s - didn't get a say.

The majority of our elected representatives want us to remain as does our capital city.

The EU wants us to remain and once the leaders have stopped throwing their toys around they will realise they need to reform the EU and make changes that will keep UK and all the other eurosceptic people in.

Today has been a body blow for us remainers but, we're shot of Cameron, so we can re-group and start the fight to remain in the EU but with changes that much of Europe wants.

tiggy, if MN posts are anything to go on, the question "if the pound goes down, will imports from the US cost more or less than before" would knock some out.Hmm

Still doesn't matter.

One person, one vote. That's the deal.

GingerIvy · 25/06/2016 11:33

Let me know when it gets to 17 million.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/06/2016 11:38

in reality, people who are happy with the result are less vocal for fear of being branded racists or xenophobes or stupid and uneducated

All of which thy're already being called in spades Hmm Like it or not, despite the direst of warnings, still the majority voted "out" - and given the threatened financial armageddon, isn't it interesting to see the FTSE100's already bounced back to a higher level than before the vote?

I've no doubt politicians' lying, twisting, lack of accountability and endless self-interest pushed a good number into voting to leave, so if the UK ones insist on ignoring the public will, are they really deluded enough to think that will bring folk back into line? Or might they perhaps find out what happens when you treat people as fools once too often?

I don't recall saying it needed 17 million. Hmm

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/06/2016 11:51

There is nothing to indicate at all that Juncker is going to take us back to the table and offer golden concessions with a view to a second UK vote ... He has said the divorce won't be amicable but it must be quick - they do not want to persuade us to stay

And a bloody good thing too

Unfortunately I always expected flip-flopping from our own politicians and suggestions of "it's not faaaiiirrr" from some who voted to remain - so hopefully the views of europe might for once be helpful to us in getting the hell out

Anyone that thinks the EU is going to be amicable after that vote is very naive indeed.

noblegiraffe · 25/06/2016 11:56

Those saying 'if remain had won, leavers wouldn't be calling for another referendum' have clearly missed what's going on in Scotland.

If it turns out that the vote which won was sold a lemon, then it seems a second in/out referendum is perfectly reasonable.

So leavers waking up to see their campaigners saying 'actually, the money won't go to the NHS, and immigration won't drop' and in fact there's no money anyway because the economy is screwed might be entirely justified in saying 'this isn't what we voted for'.

And of course Remainers waking up to a country which is being congratulated by Marine Le Pen and Donald Trump, with an economy in crisis and no one at the helm are going to cling to the thought that maybe, just maybe there's a way that this living nightmare can be wound back a little. Don't blame Remainers for being reluctant to accept a horrible situation.

What noblegiraffe said. ^^^^^^^

LineyReborn · 25/06/2016 12:01

noblegiraffe has articulated it so well.

WeekendAway · 25/06/2016 12:05

Perhaps the Scotland referendum should have waited until after the EU referendum. Confused

What an awful lot of wasted energy and money just to have to do it all again. because of something they should have foreseen and factored in.

I doubt very much that the EU will touch them at this point.

LineyReborn · 25/06/2016 12:15

I've told my DC they'll be entitled to a Scottish passport. I feel sick to be having to have that conversation at all. It's surreal.

I hope there are major negotiations going on behind the scenes for a Remain Coalition Party, parliament recalled and General Election.
The people this time around voted as if it was an opinion poll not a referendum and I don't think they would vote the same today.

ApocalypseSlough · 25/06/2016 12:23

tiggy my impression is that the Brexiteers have effectively vanished overnight. There's hardly dancing in the street, more, 'shit! what have we done?'

TheHiphopopotamus · 25/06/2016 12:27

my impression is that the Brexiteers have effectively vanished overnight

What, 17 million people?! Confused Has anyone called the police?

GingerIvy · 25/06/2016 12:28

I suspect a lot are sitting back in horror at some of the anti-democracy nonsense being spouted by some of the Remain voters.

It seems that some voted Leave because they felt their voice wasn't being listened to by anyone. Let's not forget huge Labour strongholds voted out.

So you are now telling them we still know what's best for you.

Exactly proving them right.

CoolforKittyCats · 25/06/2016 12:39

tiggy my impression is that the Brexiteers have effectively vanished overnight. There's hardly dancing in the street, more, 'shit! what have we done?

Or maybe they are being respectful of others and respecting democracy.

Which is more than some on here are doing.

merrymouse · 25/06/2016 12:41

It also took 2 years and an out EU referendum for the SNP to get to the point where they can seriously ask for another referendum.

We are supposed to be out of the EU in 2 years, and if this is a divorce, the EU wants to start changing the locks now.

I don't think there is anything wrong with people expressing their dismay at the result or even signing a petition. What else could be expected given that the elected prime minister has resigned, nobody has a clear plan and roughly half the population didn't vote for this?

That still doesn't mean a 2nd referendum is a practical option.
