Brexit

to think the Remainers aren't going to take this lying down and we won't leave

A million plus more people voted leave than remain but still over 16 million voted in. And many of the people this will affect - the under 18s - didn't get a say.

The majority of our elected representatives want us to remain as does our capital city.

The EU wants us to remain and once the leaders have stopped throwing their toys around they will realise they need to reform the EU and make changes that will keep UK and all the other eurosceptic people in.

Today has been a body blow for us remainers but, we're shot of Cameron, so we can re-group and start the fight to remain in the EU but with changes that much of Europe wants.

Exactly bran.

,my personal 16 year olds would have voted on an eeny meeny miney mo basis. I wouldn't have wanted that across the electorate. There may be some 16/17 year olds mature enough to vote but I wouldn't trust that in the mainstream.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 24/06/2016 20:08

There won't be another referendum NameChanger I don't know why you think there would.

NameChanger22 · 24/06/2016 20:09

My 9 year old was mature enough to vote. Even she knows a slimy toad liar (Farage) when she sees one.

lapsedorienteerer · 24/06/2016 20:09

Online poll for 2nd referendum

NameChanger22 · 24/06/2016 20:10

There could be another one if enough of us wanted one, not now, but when the dust settles and leavers start to loose their jobs and homes.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 24/06/2016 20:10

Just thinking a small group of bright 16 and 17 year old could do something creative and interesting with the situation?

Maybe prospective politics or law students, perhaps ones thinking of studying in Europe as I said?

I admit I'm not sure exactly what they might do, but that's for them to discuss and research? A bit like a more interesting EPQ?!

todayitstarts · 24/06/2016 20:11

If you are 16, you can marry and join up to the armed forces.

So you can legally bring human beings into the world and be killed for your country

But no franchise.

GetAHaircutCarl · 24/06/2016 20:12

I suppose it's technically possible that we have a general election before Article 50 kicks in.

And if a party won who stood on a platform to remain, then Article 50 may not get through parliament?

Just musing.

Littlemisslovesspiders · 24/06/2016 20:14

There could be another one if enough of us wanted one

No there really couldn't. You can't just keep having them until the result you want happens.

The country voted and this is the result.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 24/06/2016 20:15

You can legally bring human beings into the world before 16 too, you just can't technically legally have sex. Sorry, just a small point.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 24/06/2016 20:17

Interesting point GetAHaircut

merrymouse · 24/06/2016 20:20

There is no reason that a second referendum would give a different result. It would just cause more division and uncertainty and give the right wing idiots more of a mouth piece.

merrymouse · 24/06/2016 20:23

A pre-Brexit general election could lead to UKIP gaining seats. One thing about Farage now is that he is unelected and does not have any job in the UK government.

GetAHaircutCarl · 24/06/2016 20:26

That's possible merry.

But if Labour could get their act together to win an election on a remain platform? Not that in saying its likelyGrin.

I can't see who in Labour could be that person. I like Dan Jarvis, but where the fuck has he been through all this?

I am not sure if your aware of the greek referendum regarding accepting the new austerity measures or no

They voted no
They still accepted measures just different ones !
The referendum is not an exit yet !

Which is why I included the word 'legally'

Oooo. Brilliance!. Triggering a General Election, and a majority vote for a party with a manifesto to reverse Brexit could do it?

GetAHaircutCarl · 24/06/2016 20:44

Well I don't see technically why not.

Article 50 has to be triggered by the Prime Minister. I think it needs an Act of Parliament ( could be wrong though).

So an ejected PM ( on a remain platform) would have a mandate?

GetAHaircutCarl · 24/06/2016 20:44

Elected PMGrin.

2moreminutes · 24/06/2016 20:47

I know, Lets scrap the Olympic games while we're at it.

''That athlete only won by 1 second. It wasn't a clear enough win. Lets run the race again''

Your suggestion is laughable.

GetAHaircutCarl · 24/06/2016 20:49

In fact a Labour/SNP coalition could produce enough MPs to outvote Article 50 if the Tories fared badly in a GE.

CoolforKittyCats · 24/06/2016 20:50

Both Labour and Tories have said they will abide by the results of the referendum!

It was done democratically. The country voted. You can't just keep having more and more until you get your required result.

The result is the result.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 24/06/2016 20:50

Too late.
That was 2012.

Also, some athletes else did get disqualified after the competition, years after even.

todayitstarts · 24/06/2016 20:53

You are right haircut.

A GE is needed. Democracy, isn't it?
