you know when you've got out and the water is still hot (and clean)

When I was a kid - in England - it was practically ILLEGAL or at least unheard of to have a bath to yourself. It took about an hour for the immersion heater to heat enough water to fill the bath so the whole family had to share or take turns (and I'm quite old but not ancient).
Perhaps that's why we Brits are all still ok with sharing? Anyway -it's nice.

hifi · 10/03/2008 21:55

i get in first, has to be skin reddeningly hot, then put cold water in and dd jumps in with about 2000 bath toys, dh joins her sometimes but he gets angry as she says "can i try and wee on you daddy"

expatinscotland · 10/03/2008 21:56

Well, DH is born and bred Scottish and he finds the idea of sharing bath water minging.

He doesn't even like baths. He showers.

snotbuster · 10/03/2008 21:58

Expat - maybe he has bad memories of sharing with all of his siblings on a Sunday night (which was the only 'bath' night of the week!)??

bluejelly · 10/03/2008 21:59

Me and my dd share one every night.
But I have a shower in the morning too, so that undermines the green credentials somewhat

expatinscotland · 10/03/2008 21:59

No, they bathed every other night. Then went in the shower at about age 7.

expatinscotland · 10/03/2008 21:59

Showers are pretty green.

ecoworrier · 11/03/2008 09:38

snotbuster, you have it exactly right! The idea of anyone having a whole bathful of water to themselves would have been met with incredulity!

We have always shared baths. Growing up I had wondered if only we did it, it's not the sort of thing you ask your friends is it? So I was relieved to find my husband seemed to think it fine and normal!

We shower 6 days a week and have a bath once a week. Generally the 3 children share a bath, i.e. one after another not at the same time, they're a bit old for that! They take it in turns as to who goes first, although strangely one child seems to prefer going last, I think it's because they get to soak longest.

Then we make sure the water is heated a bit more and my husband and I will have a bath a bit later. So really that's 2 baths between 5 of us I suppose. We did used to all jump in one after the other, but found those going towards the end weren't getting as much hot water - it was alright when the children were young but now they all like deeper, hotter baths.

We each have our own bath towel though.

princessmel · 11/03/2008 09:40

Yes, dd and ds have one together . Sometimes dh/me will get in with them or after they've got out.

princessmel · 11/03/2008 09:45

Just read whole thread. Kerry, do you feel the same about swimming pools then?

yes of course. with dh, with dd and used to with the now teens. and often all of us in together. does anybody not, then?

NaughtyNigel · 11/03/2008 09:54

Yes - we do. usually shower most days but if running a huge hot bath most the rest of the family will hop in me. unless legs have been shaved - then i warn them.
Are families germs all the same? and if you don't share baths what else don't you share? like towels/flannels/spoons?

NaughtyNigel · 11/03/2008 09:55

that's after me not in me!

but we all get them anyway - whether sharing or not - same with lice or colds.

TheHonEnid · 11/03/2008 09:58

yes we do sometimes

TheHonEnid · 11/03/2008 09:59

try not to have baths too often - showers here, even dd3 (22 months) loves them (held by me of course)

Minum · 11/03/2008 10:03

Mostly we shower, but share bath water if its going - usually its DH and the boys having my water, not the other way round. And we all share towels.

totalmisfit · 11/03/2008 12:21

dd and i bathe together most mornings. it's just a quick way of both getting clean with less faffing. it's ok while shes 2 but in a year or so will have to rethink as there's barely enough room as it is.

carmenelectra · 11/03/2008 12:24

Everyday!

I hardly ever get the luxury of first bath though!

carmenelectra · 11/03/2008 12:28

LOL at rodeo and 'LEAVE THE WATER IN'. THats defo our house!

Usually ds1 has first bath as hes going to bed first, and he says nearly every night without fail 'Do you want me to leave the water in?'

It is a funny topic. And agree with posters who said as kids it was asolutely unheard of not to share.

carmenelectra · 11/03/2008 12:31

We have a dry towel each which we then dry an radiator and bannister till next bath/shower(unless its covered in my fake tan). I will then wash after second use

RUMPEL · 11/03/2008 12:32

Yep - all the time. Me first then DH as he like it cooler. Reuse towels all the time.
