…. And not paying tax? Earning around £100-200 extra per week on top of their normal pays job.

has anyone ever done this? Did anything happen?

No, it’s nothing to do with you and wouldn’t benefit you in anyway. I suggest staying out of other peoples business. We all do what we can to get by. They aren’t harming anyone

IAxolotlQuestions · 28/03/2026 19:18

No. I used to care about ‘the rules’ until I worked a job that showed me a clearly that the ‘rich’ don’t follow any of them and no one cares. I’ve also had enough arguments with HMRC to know they’re incompetent anyway. And my job means I see the inner workings of the public sector - and the sheer amount of taxes they waste in there is horrendous.

So now I just think it’s every man for himself and I don’t care if someone’s worked out a way to get a bit extra.

VimtoDemon · 28/03/2026 19:19

No as it's nothing to do with you.

How do you know they aren't paying tax on it anyway?

raisinglittlepeople12 · 28/03/2026 19:19

No, I think it would actually be I’m immoral to do so in this economy

therockingbird · 28/03/2026 19:19

No! I’m more bothered by the ever increasing privately diagnosed adhd’ers claiming they can’t leave the house to work..

Catcatcatcatcat · 28/03/2026 19:19

Nope

Iamacatslave · 28/03/2026 19:20

No. And keep your nose out.

isthesolution · 28/03/2026 19:21

depends If they were doing it partly to avoid child support!

otherwise - no

singlemum2025 · 28/03/2026 19:21

this post could be about me, single mum, dad doesn’t pay anything towards the kids despite it going through csa, I am already working but do a bit of extra cleaning on the side which basically pays for our food! Without it we would be at food banks. I do feel guilty about it but with the rising cost of everything I can’t afford not to!

beccahamlet · 28/03/2026 19:23

No. I'd mind my own business.

Damnd · 28/03/2026 19:25

God never! Minding my own business brings peace of mind!

EstrellaPolar · 28/03/2026 19:27

I wouldn’t do anything. I have worked cash-in-hand before, as have my parents for a significant portion of their lives (not claiming any benefits simultaneously). As others have said, I would’ve been happy to charge more and be formally employed, but at the end of the day the take-home pay would’ve been exactly the same. And I wouldn’t have been given the work, because people wanted to skip the paperwork…

When you really need money, you work any way you can. I wouldn’t begrudge someone an untaxed £200 a week, that’s likely keeping their family alive. I’d rather complain about / report rich people who evade taxation, multiple home owners, those fraudulently claiming state benefits, etc.

Simplestars · 28/03/2026 19:27

@dammit88

Why would it even cross your mind to do so?
How do you know what that person is having to deal with? Or challenges they are experiencing?

Go and stick you nose out of other people's business.
🐄

Hiddenhouse · 28/03/2026 19:28

i can’t think why I would care or notice

BillieWiper · 28/03/2026 19:29

No because how would I know if they're paying tax or not.

Unless I had proof the employer was some kind of slave labourer or gangmaster forcing them to work for well under min wage in very dangerous or illegal conditions. And threatening them with violence or financial penalty if they tried to quit.

But then I'd report the employer not the staff member being taken advantage of.

GreenSedan · 28/03/2026 19:30

Of course not

Solutionssought2026 · 28/03/2026 19:30

No
and nor would HMRC be interested I’ve reported people who were making 40 grand a year cash and they haven’t followed up on the phone call

LilyLemonade · 28/03/2026 19:30

No way! Why would you even think about it? Just MYOB and live your life.

Onadark · 28/03/2026 19:31

No I wouldn't.

If it's a second job they must really need the money. I mean, imagine working full time and still having to do another part-time job because you're struggling to make ends meet.

Treacling · 28/03/2026 19:32

If it’s an absent parent working extra a few hours cash in hand to avoid paying maintenance - yes I would.

If it’s 69 year old Doris supplementing her £12500 pension by cleaning her neighbours house or walking their dog, then no I wouldn’t.

illsendansostotheworld · 28/03/2026 19:32

No- good luck to them

amber763 · 28/03/2026 19:34

Absolutely not. Why on earth do you have to ask? Times are hard for everyone

PoppinjayPolly · 28/03/2026 19:34

A 2nd job so already paying tax? I’d save my energy for the benefit bludgers working full time and off the books!

Itsmetheflamingo · 28/03/2026 19:34

How of you know if they’re paying tax?

I wouldn’t anyway, either way

Never feel guilty about this xx
