She’s been in hospital two weeks after a fall and pneumonia, suddenly deteriorated this afternoon, barely conscious and quite distresssed now. Doctors have said this it, waiting for my husband and could do with a handhold

So very sorry for you all. You must be exhausted.

I had many a tear in my eye reading your story. It mirrors that of so many including myself. I sat with dear Mum every day all day and many a night too. Played her favourite songs on the ipad with earphones in her ears. She smiled a lot when she heard her favourite songs, but was not speaking much.

All I can say is that a peaceful passing with no distress is what everyone one of us would like for ourselves and our loved ones. And having seen the kindness and dignity with which Mum was treated was such a comfort. She passed away when I went out for a walk around the block. They often do that. But I have no regrets on that front at all.

And they often rally too for a day or so. I couldn't believe it. One day she was nearly gone, then bingo! back to sitting up, drinking her favourite pineapple juice off a spoon and having a bit of a laugh for an hour or two. One day later she was gone.

Bless you and bless them all.

Please take time to care for yourself. 5 years ago I spent a week watching my grandad pass away, I remember that final drive home from hospital vividly. It was a relief that things were now going to get back to normal, until I realised it meant he was no longer with us so things weren't going to be normal again. It's such a big thing being with someone as they pass on Flowers
