She’s been in hospital two weeks after a fall and pneumonia, suddenly deteriorated this afternoon, barely conscious and quite distresssed now. Doctors have said this it, waiting for my husband and could do with a handhold

Popping in to say good morning and I hope today is peaceful. The handhold continues.

My thoughts are with you at this most difficult of times.

PeoniesarePink · 07/08/2019 09:17

I used to work in care OP and it never ceased to amaze me how long the body could keep going for..... even when the person was so frail and so ready to go.

It took a week with my Nan. But DH's dad took a few days. It's something they really can't predict but the main thing is that your Mum is comfortable and not in distress. Thinking of you Flowers

Still with you OP.

HappyHedgehog247 · 07/08/2019 12:30

Thinking of you and hoping you have a peaceful time together x

Just checking in again op - still thinking of you.

I remember this time (with my father and dparentinlaw) as being very surreal and strange. It's hard to reconcile life bustling along outside with everything you are confronting in the hospital. It's very draining so do take care of yourself. Lovely that your ds could offer comfort!

Wishing your mum peace and comfort.

ajandjjmum · 07/08/2019 13:28

Thinking of you Jonty - and sorry, but it could go on for longer. Such a hard time. You must take care of yourself. Flowers

Lepetitpiggy · 07/08/2019 13:46

I was there six months ago - it's not easy, at times I was willing her to die, at others, hating myself for feeling that way
You will get through it though- I promise

Lepetitpiggy · 07/08/2019 13:47

Echoing what others have said - mum was given a week after two devastating stokes that took her mind off to some alternative reality (luckily in a good way!) and she lasted 3 months

JontyDoggle37 · 08/08/2019 13:47

Thank you everyone for all your support. Mum held on long enough for her sister (who’s also been unwell) to visit, and passed away peacefully this morning about ten minutes after her sister left.

Sending you love and thoughts. Glad your Mum passed peacefully - I know that will give you comfort over the coming days.

I'm sorry for your loss op. It's still a huge shock even when it is expected, so go easy on yourself. It was so good that you could be with your mum in her last days and hours and I'm relieved for you both that the end was peaceful Flowers

Weenurse · 08/08/2019 14:45

Glad she passed peacefully after her sisters visit. 💐 and hugs

2018SoFarSoGreat · 08/08/2019 15:46

Glad your vigil is over Jonty and so sorry you've joined the team of those who watched and waited.

Sending love and strength for the next bit. Knowing it was coming does not ease the heartache ❤️

InTheHeatofLisbon · 08/08/2019 15:48

Oh Jonty I'm glad this part is over, for you and for your Mum. Flowers

Whatever happens next, take it in your own time. As pp said, expecting it doesn't make it easier. Sending love.

VictoriaBun · 08/08/2019 15:53

You will look back on this and wonder how you managed and coped, but it is done with love. Take care of yourself.

Drum2018 · 08/08/2019 16:22

So sorry for your loss. Get a good rest tonight. You've had such a tough few days. Don't be rushed into any arrangements. Take time to do things as you feel best.
