Hey, Kanga - DS2 got his exam result this weekend! (Teacher rang us up on Saturday to tell us it had come in the post, DS2 was at grandma's then and insisted on going to fetch it as soon as he came home yesterday )

He did really well, his score was 123 which is a merit, and he even passed the sight reading (shows how much I know!) which is a first for him - well chuffed all round

His exam was 3 days before yours though, so your result might not have come through yet.

Fantastic, JanH! Congratulations to your clever DS2!

Janh · 25/07/2005 23:52

Thank you, hunker

RT!

has your ds ever "bathed" his instrument? This might solve the sticky valve problem once and for all...

Dismantle the instrument, laying all the bits out so you know where they go, as each valve has to go back in the right slot.

Fill a bath with warm water and a dab of fairy. Use a soft cloth, and run the warm water all the way through the instrument. Lay it on a towle to dry naturally.

Then wash all the bits, again in the water with the soft cloth.

You will probably be shocked at how much dirt comes out!

When you put the valves back in, oil them with special valve oil first. WD40 doesn't cut it here.

Make sure you 'work' the valves to evenly distribute the oil.

Many apologies if I'm teaching my Grandmother to suck eggs here....

Wish I could lose some weight Yorkiegirl. Sadly I have the appetite of a hippo (a 'normus pottamus' as my dd2 calls them) and the willpower of a gnat.

RTKangaMummy · 26/07/2005 15:51
