e.g 1 reception class
1 year one class
1 year two class...

If so how many is in the class?

It seems so much these days there is more than one class for each year group.

KatyMac · 05/07/2005 20:10

At my DD's there are 3 classes covering ages 4 to 11 (ie reception to year 6)

Eowyn · 05/07/2005 20:11

mine does, think there are around 30ish in the class but haven't counted.

Kittypickle · 05/07/2005 20:11

My DD does. There are 19 in reception this year I think. 30 now in Year 1 (up from 22) and I think years 2,3 and 4 all have 30.

AnnaInManchester · 05/07/2005 20:16

Katy Mac, do you live in the middle of nowhere?

It is lovely

He has 26 in his class 5

Everyone knows everyone all the teachers know all the children

Head knows all the children, parents and siblings in the playground

Really a family atmosphere

Yep - it feels that way anyway - Rural Norfolk......it's still in the last centuary

But I like it (about 20-24 in each class btw)

R & Y1
Y2,Y3 & some of Y4
resy of Y4, Y5 & Y6

DD loves it

Littlefish · 05/07/2005 20:40

You can have a maximum of 30 children in a Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 class. (There are occasional exceptions to this rule for Special Needs or where it is known that one of the 30 is leaving at some point in the year).

unicorn · 05/07/2005 20:48

yep.. dd will stay with her yr group til yr 6.. (max 30 in class.. actual figure is 28)...
the headteacher knows all the kids too...
which is rather nice for a London school!

littlerach · 05/07/2005 20:48

Yes ours has 1 per year, this year will be the largest intake, at 26!! Last year it wass 18.
It is a lovely school, the rise in numbers is due to the pre school opening.

titchy · 05/07/2005 23:29

One claass per year here too - and it's great. All the kids know each other, and there's a realy caring atmosphere in the school.

The only flip side I can see is that if your child really doesn't get on with their teacher there's no other class for them to move to.

Oh and the secondary that mine will go too has more kids in each year that our whole school does

One of mine doesa and has 29 in the class. My ds's went there too and the classes have been larger...ds2 was in a class of 39 up to year 6 when it was split .

Fio2 · 06/07/2005 16:29

my daughter does but its a special school

the school we are conmsidering for ds has 4, yes $ classes per year. they are fairly small classes though, but 4 is shocking to me

Windermere · 06/07/2005 16:31

ds is too young for school at the moment but I have been been looking into it. There are seven state primaries in my town and each one of them has only one class for each year. When I was at school I remember there being about 4 classes for each year.

Blu · 06/07/2005 16:33

Yes, DS will be going to a school with a one class intake. We only applied to small schools - some in London have 4 classes for each year group.

KBear · 06/07/2005 16:34

My DD's school has 4 classes per year!!!

Enid · 06/07/2005 16:34

about 20 in each class

Class 1: recep/yr 1; Class 2: yr 1/2; etc etc year 3/4; year 5; year 6

rural Dorset

its fab and dd loves it.

geekgrrl · 06/07/2005 16:36

mine go to a school with a total of four classes for all the year groups.
There are 90 children at the school, this year's class 1 (reception and half on yr1) will be around 23 children.
Like KatyMac we're in a very rural area.

Windermere · 06/07/2005 16:38

Whereabouts in rural dorset, enid? I have just come back from holiday in Dorset and loved it so much that I am now suffering from post holiday blues

Enid · 06/07/2005 16:40

West Dorset on the somerset border

it is loooooooooooveeeeeeely

Enid · 06/07/2005 16:41
