Does anyone know what children are asked to do for 4+ entrance at Haberdashers?

My DD will be going for the 4+ 'play group' asesssment at Haberdashers soon. Does anyone know what they are asked to do/what they are looking for? There is very little information given by the school. Many thanks

OP - normally they just observe your DD play/interact with oter children. Not sure if haberdashers does anything more than other prep schools - is it very over-subscribed?

Yes it is still heavily oversubscribed and all I have gleaned to date is just to turn up with daughter where she is taken for a "play group" session for an hour or 2. No ideas what they are assessing.

Because the very concept of assessing a 4 year old to see whether he/she is good enough for your school is horrible

How else would they decide what 20 they take from 400+ applications?

First come first served, lottery, catchment, any number of ways but testing 4 year olds. Sorry I am not intending to be rude but it is another world and one I do not understand.

They'll probably just be watched. Any that steal stuff will be dropped, any that turn down the organic fruit smoothies in favour of the Fruit Shoots will be excluded and any that can turn on and use a Wii/DS Lite will be shown the door.

No wonder your name is stressed2007! I've just put DD1 through an 11+ entrance exam and that was bad enough.

I wouldn't have entertained the idea of testing for a school place before that age though. Is it really necessary and what messages are we giving very small children (dare I say, babies?)

my dd got into Habs a few years back but we actually declined the place as we were not keen on the school run from Highgate (yes, they thought we were mad!!!). dh took her rather than myself and he is a bit too chlled out so i don't have much detailed advice - i think he said that dd told the teacher the Nativity Story and was reading out all the things on the noticeboard (she was reading/writing/talking a LOT earlier than ds who has just started school and nowhere near that level).

dd now attends a prep school nearer to home (her choice, not ours). this has enabled her to stay with her friends whom she has known from birth.

Whats haberdashers?? I only ask as my SIL went there, and im quite confused because (and im absolutely not being rude or insulting at all) but she is as chavvie as they come and from what im reading here it seems quite posh?

OP - i can't BELIEVE you are even allowing your child to be ASSESSED already - they get enough of that shit later in life - fuck that school!
