Oh good for you Pamina! Still waiting here of course - will be just over a week before we hear yet...

Like you, we get ds1 in and ds2 and ds3 are a 'done deal'!

Azure · 29/04/2005 11:49

The school is mixed (girls stay to 11), but #2 is a boy as well, so we don't have that problem. Apparently if you register a sibling within one month of their birth they have an almost guaranteed place - as if I won't have better things to be doing. As it happens, DS will have left by the time #2 will have started, so logistics-wise, it all depends on where DS goes in 3+ years time. This really is a nightmare, isn't it? I think I'll just focus on DS starting school this September and bury my head in the sand for a while about what happens next.

Well, DS didn't get into the third state school we applied to. It's just as well we can go private, as he didn't get in to any state schools, despite none of them being more than a mile away. Ridiculous, isn't it? It has to be said that we didn't apply for the one nearest us, but it has a much, much poorer reputation than the ones we did apply to. I'm feeling all cross now.

LIZS · 04/05/2005 15:06

Azure

As a matter of curiosity have you asked the LEA where they would now place him - think they are obliged to offer him somewhere

Gobbledigook · 04/05/2005 15:39

3 schools within a mile all rejected you Are they all fantastic? Or small?

I'm sure they'll offer him a place somewhere, but obviously the problem is that it might be somewhere you'd rather he didn't go.

Azure · 04/05/2005 16:58

I'm not going to contact the LEA because DS will now go to a private school, but I do wonder what they would do / offer. The schools I applied to have very good reputations but are quite small, I guess - one has 2 classes per year, the others one class. The rejection letter we got yesterday stated that there were 155 applications for 30 places, and 12 of those appyling were siblings. I know there is the option of waiting lists, but once DS is settled I don't really want to move him, and he is going to go to a very good school.

Mhamai · 04/05/2005 17:51

My ds starts in september, turned four in Feb, my dd18 finished last yr and all I keep thinking is, oh God here we go again!! can't wait to see him in his uniform though Oh and will prob have to buy tons of kleenex for the tears, mine not his!

kid · 04/05/2005 17:57

I got a confirmation letter today for DS's nursery place. He is starting in September. I have to take in some ID, I think I'll take him along so he can have a look around. I'm all excited for him!

We got our letter this morning. DS2 will be going to our local school with his big brother, hoorah!!

I thought it was a shoe in until I spoke to the secretary yesterday who told me there had been over 250 applications for 75 places and the LEA had reduced sibling priority to the 5th most important. So we're very relieved.

Earlybird · 05/05/2005 00:16

Issymum - a few tips for second hand uniform sale success....if you know anyone currently at the school with a dd who is about the size of your own dd, suggest you arrange an informal "try on for size" session in advance of the sale. I did this, and so knew what sizes I was looking for. The uniforms for dd's school are unhelpfully sized 22/24/26 etc, so I would have had no idea what to get if I hadn't had a trial run first.

I also made a point of heading first to the winter coat rack, and then to the wool jacket rack. Those were the two most expensive items required, and therefore the ones I focused on. Good luck - it's a bit manic!

Azure · 05/05/2005 08:46

Congratulations to Doddle and Kid on getting the places you wanted.

At DS's nursery they don't have the second hand uniform sale. Its not too bad though as I only have to buy the school jumper and then he can wear trousers or tracksuit bottoms. Uniform isn't even compulsary for nursery but I think it looks cute and saves his clothes!

vivat · 05/05/2005 15:31

Hi Azure - we've been extremely lucky and got a place at JB - what a shame you won't be there too. I would have raised mighty hell if we didn't because we live only 200 yards away ( I measured it!). If you were still keen it would be worth staying on the waiting list, the headmistress told a friend of mine that they do have children dropping out over the summer and even sometimes no shows on the first day of term (which I think is outrageous). Also children do leave in the first year as well. Sounds like you're going for private though. Is it O.H?

Azure · 06/05/2005 08:48

Vivat, great news about DS - you must be so relieved. As you say, it would have been outrageous not to have got in as you live so close. Yes, DS will be going to OH. Interesting to hear about waiting lists, although I would be reluctant to move him once he's settled.

Gobbledigook · 06/05/2005 14:23

Still waiting.....

stitch · 06/05/2005 14:51

my ds2 is not yet four and wont be till june 30th. he will be starting reception in september.

dinosaur · 06/05/2005 17:05

We've got our letter now too - DS2 will be starting Reception in January at the same school as DS1 - which is also the same school as Doddle's DSs.

firestorm · 06/05/2005 20:11

we got our letter today confirming that dd2 has been accepted at her sisters school. it also says the school is oversubscribed this year. im now feeling guilty at taking a place from somebody else when i know full well that we are leaving the area (hopefully before sept but were not even on the market yet so who knows?) i didnt really have any other choice than to put that school down i think ill give the lea a ring on monday to see what the situation is in the area we hope to move to.

Gobbledigook · 06/05/2005 20:13

Firestorm - are you mad???? If your older dd is staying at the school then surely it makes sense for your younger one to go too? Or will you be moving away so moving both children?

Anyway, the way the housing market is I wouldn't do anything as it's taking ages to shift houses atm. Ours has been on since last July

You've done the only thing you can do I think.

Gobbledigook · 07/05/2005 11:00

Hurrah and phew - just got our letter to say ds1 is in the school we want (the only one we applied for so good job really!). Soooo chuffed and relieved - it's a fab, fab school!!
