can I add to the roll call of doom:

within 2 weeks your DC may have nits
within 1 term s/he may have threadworms

you will be flung into the hell pit of Birthday Party Invitation Anxiety (whether giving or receiving)

Anna8888 · 03/09/2008 20:21

Cod I so hope you are right . She starts all day school on Friday - 9 am to 4.30 pm with canteen lunch - I am crossing fingers that she will now need more than 8 hours sleep per 24

TigerFeet · 03/09/2008 20:36

DD wasn't too bad after school today (day one in reception - lunch at aschool at 11.30 and collected at 12)

She did toddle off to bed with no complaint instead of the usual requests to be allowed to stay up just a little bit longer.

Lets see how she is by the weekend shall we?

CarofromWton · 03/09/2008 20:57

Well that confirms it! My kids are aliens from another planet. Neither of mine are the tiniest bit tired after school and DD1 even asks "what are we doing tonight?" like I'm going to say "oh, let's pop over to Alton Towers/Waterworld/Eurodisney and be back in time to do your homework!"

They are hungrier though - had to do a mega food shop this week.

seeker · 03/09/2008 22:08

Mine too, Caro. I stopped all my dd's after school activities when she started in Reception - and started them again two weeks later! She gets a bit more tired now (year 8) but that's because she spends 30 minutes skylarking on the bus with her friends on the way home, and she has to get up at 6.30.

frankiesbestfriend · 03/09/2008 22:24

Dd has just gone into Y3 and for last 2 nights on trot have had whinging(her),crying(her) and shouting(her and me)

Roll on half term when I can have my gorgeous, fun school holidays daughter back.

ScottishMummy · 03/09/2008 22:27

sounds like an apocalyptic hell cod

AwakeStill · 04/09/2008 22:20

Am friends with a lovely reception teacher who is fairly young and couldn't sleep for nerves last night - has been working for the last few weeks on making the classroom lovely and on plans. DS not at this stage yet, but was really lovely from parent p.o.v to see her be so excited about a new intake. She cries when they move up a year!

Kbear · 04/09/2008 22:27

Can I add a message to parents to reception children?

This year and every year you will need a red t-shirt (Comic Relief Day), a yellow t-shirt (Hospice Day, Christmas play costume, a Book Week Costume, you will need to send in food for Harvest Festival so keep something half decent in the back of the cupboard in a few weeks' time so at midnight when you remember you have to send something in you will have it!!, you will need to send in bottles for bottle tombola at Christmas and Summer Fair, goodies for Christmas Hamper Raffle, goodies for Summer Raffle, get a CRB (police) check done if you want to go on school trips and these can take a couple of months to come back so get a form from the office now. I think that's it for now!!

Bluestocking · 04/09/2008 22:33

Thanks all. DS has a meeting with his new reception teacher tomorrow and is so excited - I have been telling him how excited she's going to be to meet him and how thrilled she's going to be that he's going to be in her class.

ChippyMinton · 05/09/2008 10:40

KBear - very good list. Plus a supply of pound coins to pay for the non-uniform days.

I have instigated:

Huge gold stars for anyone in bed and asleep by 8pm
NO Wii on school days
Large drink before leaving for school and same when they get home, as dehydration is the real enemy here.
Large drink for me before starting bedtime routine

ChippyMinton · 05/09/2008 10:43

And stock up on bargain birthday presents, gift wrap and age 5 cards, unless you want to spend every Saturday morning running up to Woolies for a fivers worth of plastic tat.

Anchovy · 05/09/2008 11:19

Deffo agree with that one Chippy Minton. We found My Little Ponies for half price and I have a cupboard at home that looks like a pink and glittery stable.

My best thing has been those easy-2-name stick on labels. You have to label everything there is all the obvious stuff, but you'll be amazed at how often you have send in a carrier bag full of stuff for plays/going out picnic lunches etc all of which will need labelling. Keep them in the kitchen drawer, slap one on - easy peasy.

hannahsaunt · 05/09/2008 11:27

Permission please to do all of the above when I go back to work on Monday after a year of mat leave

ChippyMinton · 05/09/2008 11:30

I have a big fat permanent marker for scrawling names on 'disposable packed lunch' carrier bags. Keep any unusual carrier bags for this purpose too. Everyone round here shops at Tesco, so I try and send DC with a bright prange sainsbury's bag so they can retreive their lunch from the communal cool box.

Make a note of all INSET days and plan days out to places that are usually too crowded - eg Science Museum, theme parks.

hifi · 05/09/2008 12:01

dd starts next week, so i was planning to skip there and back with her having a lovely chat. no?

castlesintheair · 05/09/2008 12:49

lol at iheartdusty: 'you will be flung into the hell pit of Birthday Party Invitation Anxiety (whether giving or receiving)'

Especially applicable to parents when it comes to receiving ime

jalopy · 05/09/2008 12:53

Can I also add the viral illness that commences in September and finishes in March.

Elibean · 05/09/2008 13:18

dd1 has never slept more than 10 hours per night, but I live in hope.

Does getting home knackered apply to Reception LOs that only do mornings till Xmas??

Elibean · 05/09/2008 13:18

She does do starting-new-things-meltdowns though
