Hi, I'm looking for books for my daughter, I was wondering if anyone had or knew where I could get cheap copies of anything written by Anna Fine, Roald dahl and Micheal Murpogo(sp?)

charity shops

our library don't charge a fine for overdue books issued on a child's card

where we are overdue books are free for under fives, and 2p a day until they are at secondary school
we can renew online and ask for email alerts if books are overdue too which makes renewing loads easier
I think with our team read you can read anything too

Do you all have massive houses & children's book collections? MNNers seem to talk about buying lots & lots of books. I rarely buy books, who can afford it & has the space to store?
We have a big house, but we dont have storage space for thousands of books, esp. given DC only read most books only once (if that).

DC read about 8 books each from libary a week.

Just that we have heaps of books that were gifts, + my own impulse charity shop buys. But if I went out buying as new "good children's classics or "suitable books for children reading at DC's reading level and age" (like you see lots of threads on MN about), I wouldn't have room to store them all!

I mean, all the books by
Roald Dahl, Anne Fine, EB White, Enid Blyton... etc. Never mind the Yellow Train, Terrific Tractors, Astrosaurs, Magic Kitten series and the books the kids actually want to read rather than the classics, there's not room, is there?

The book people often do complete sets for about a tenner.

From meory, the main books by Roald Dahl for children were: The Big Friendly Giant, Matilda, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Danny the Champion of the World, The Witches, The Twits, Georges Marvellous Medicine, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, James and the Giant Peach.

There were also Boy and Going Solo which were autobiographical and I loved when I was about 12 or 13.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned Amazon's Marketplace sellers. You can sometimes buy books for a few pence there, only paying the £2.75 for p & p.

hmmpf - we got charged 70p reservation fee on private peaceful (mm) as librarian didn't think it was a children's book (reservations supposed to be free for dcs)

Me and dd go to our library once a week - I would say the library is your first port of call!

Next... abebooks - online secondhand book specialist = v good good good!!!!

Also if your dd is an up and about kinda gal - bookcrossing is fun too!!! It is, urm... how do I explain this... well... sort of when people hide books all around the World and you have to find them, read them and then hide them again - google it - I think it is pretty cool - but I am quite old, a Mum and a teacher so that doesn't mean anything really!!! he he he!!!!

another vote for the library. DS2 (8) not into reading, but he is into challenges and came home with 6 books on Sat am and had read ( and understood and could tell us about!)them by sun pm, and so could tak ehtem back that afternoon and collect his medal
