At the end of the year, it's easy to have lots of disrupted lessons where lots of pupils are missing because they are involved in various rehearsals for end-of-year festivities.

For the few that are left, it is not a bad thing to do something that is more relaxed than a normal lessons. I think teachers that show DVDs tend to show something that is broadly educational, eg a David Attenborough production in Science.

There is nothing wrong with end-of-year DVDs as long as they are shown in the same spirit as those throughout the year, eg with question sheets to fill in along the way, and tasks to complete afterwards.

Dd's class is writing and producing a show, they have done exhibitions throughout the school for a parents' open day, they have a concert planned for the end of term, and they have normal amounts of homework right up until the last couple of days. They are "off timetable" but very busy and creative nontheless.

A good school is not going to allow pupils to watch endless dvds and tidy up just because it's the end of term. And if it's the end of term already, I assume it's a private school. With the extremely short terms, and the fact that you are paying for this, I'd be doubly pissed off!

Ds's school breaks up on the 19th. They are still 'on timetable', have proper lessons and homework.
For a bit of light relief there is a theatre group coming in this Friday.
Iirc they only tidy up, clear the classroom and carry their folders and trays to their next classroom during the last day of school.

All of mine seem to be working hard/getting homework etc. Ds (Y6) taking it a bit easier - working on end of term production and transition work.
