Tidying the classrooms is always par for the course.

2 dvds a day is ridiculous

TheFallenMadonna · 03/07/2008 18:08

In my lesson he'd play biology pictionary .

Hulababy · 03/07/2008 18:11

Seems a bit off - have no problem with subject related games and the odd (maybe one?) DVD during the week - but this sounds OTT.

I used to take in computer based quiz games, etc for use in last lessons.

Next year, book your holidays early and don't feel guilty for taking the last week of school off.

Twiglett · 03/07/2008 18:15

yes it is odd that the entire workload seems to have disappeared into plans for days out and fun days in and free time drawing

and they make you feel guilty about taking them out of school

our school doesn't even break up until 24th

snuffy143 · 03/07/2008 18:25

I'm still cracking the whip with my Y10's - got a module and coursework to hand in before the end of term. And am stuck into some serious A2 stuff with my lower 6th. Not sure what is going on lower down the school but mostly school is continuing as normal. Head has banned non subject related "fun"!

Beetroot · 03/07/2008 18:27

Grease in dance

Vicar of dibley in RE

Black Adder in English

DS says well there is nothing to do - but surely a mini project is in order -

Last week our school got inspe3cted (Ofsted).. so on friday (inspection finished) the kids just watched DVDs and did art all day, poor teachers, I think their planning was completely thrown out the window by Ofsted.

They are so tired with this long 1/2 term, but I wish they could just be sent home 2 weeks earlier & teachers could tidy in peace.

plumandolive · 03/07/2008 18:48

Ours seem to be just killing time too. Have had fun days, sponsored walks, trip to the race course educational of course, pled golf....haven't done what seems like proper work since sats, and the work before that was preactise for sats.......ages before they break up

janeite · 03/07/2008 18:53

lljkk - teachers left to tidy in peace - what bliss that would be! My stock cupboard is an embarrassment, such an embarrassment that some Year 10s have offered to come after school next week to help sort it out! Offered - not obliged, I hasten to reassure you all.

We've got two weeks left, have been OFSTEDed this half term and I've also done my AST assessment this half term; to say that I'm shattered is an understatement! However, I am ploughing on: Year 10 are doing coursework, plus going over their mock exam results to see what their targets for the start of Yr 11 will be; Year 9 are beginning coursework prep and Year 8 are doing an extended creative writing project, with lots of drama opportunities to inspire their writing.

Roll on the 18th!

rosealbie · 03/07/2008 18:57

Well I was in my ds's class this morning for a 'Create Technology Morning' designing and making winding toys! Also included evaluation of the design and end result. (Y2)

They don't seem to be 'winding' down yet.

There is no reason for kids to sit back and do nothing for the last few weeks of term. There are lots of worthwhile things they can do than watching dvds.

Our year 6s (70 children)have been taking part in this really great entrepreneur project. Each child was given £1 and told to buy something with it that they could make and sell. They got into groups and made cakes, did little raffles, how many sweets in a jar, little competitions, sold drinks for the rest of the school to bring in money for. One boy even advertised his on e-bay and sold it for £2.20!

They also wrote and printed a school newspaper and went round to local businesses to sell advertising space. The newspapers were sold for 50p each.

They made...

£800!!!!! (profit)

Not a private school or even a school in a wealthy area.

On the penulitmate day of the term they are going to Chessington and they have raised enough money for the whole lot to have fast passes for the day and £300 to give to charity!

Last week for us and my class works as normal right up until the last day, when they can bring games in. 2 DVDs a day is ridiculous!

needaholiday · 05/07/2008 14:17

as home schoolers ours don't have holidays lol, but I remember the days of the long 6 week break to look forward to (8 weeks in private). I wonder if I could convince someone to have my DCs for 6 weeks over the summer so I can tidy
