HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

To all you wonderful Mums!

(is it "Mum's" Day in the UK?)

northernrefugee39 · 12/05/2008 08:06

Thanks Pete!

(Mother's day in UK was March, but the sentiment is still very appreciated!)

It's beautiful weather here at the moment, very hot and sunny, so there aren't many of us glued to the computer, hence the lull in discussion; we're all sunning ourselves or gardening( speaking for myself anyway)
Oh yes, do dissect the anthroposophy answers.

Some people are getting scratchy on the US unmentionable site about anthroposophy. There is a distinct lack of the ones who call themselves anthroposophists discussing it.

PeteK · 12/05/2008 15:36

"Some people are getting scratchy on the US unmentionable site about anthroposophy."

Wait... Voldemort has a website in the US?

northernrefugee39 · 13/05/2008 07:58

Tom Riddle himself, the heir of Slytherin anthros and followed by half blood gnomes and muggles accross the globe

FunkyGlassSlipper · 15/05/2008 12:55

Melinda Messenger has just been singing the praises of Steiner education on Loose Women.

northernrefugee39 · 16/05/2008 08:17

Thanks FunkyGlass.

Is Loose Women on channel 4?

I like Melinda Mesenger, but I'm sure she doesn't have a clue about the philosophy, religion, cult behind her kids education.
And I'm sure the anthroposophists are rubbing their hands in glee about all the publicity she's giving them.

FunkyGlassSlipper · 16/05/2008 11:17

It is on ITV at lunchtimes.

sprocketgirl · 16/05/2008 16:18

Hello, this is my first ever message on any sort of internet chat thing......are you talking about Steiner schools in UK, America or Europe?

sprocketgirl · 16/05/2008 16:21

Am considering sending my four year old to a local Steiner school that SEEMS really gorgeous. Now having second thoughts.

Lilymaid · 16/05/2008 17:23

Newspaper article on OFSTED inspection of our local Steiner School

northernrefugee39 · 16/05/2008 17:26

Lily, the ofsted said H and S wasn't up to scratch HA! health and safety isn't an issue at Steiner - they have guardian angels watching them.

northernrefugee39 · 16/05/2008 20:21

Oh Sprocketgirl!

To read the Steiner threads on here would take an age.
As a family who left after three yrs and three kids at various stages, I say beware the exterior! They are beautiful places, the people are ostenibly gentle kind and lovely.

Not the true picture.

They are based entirely and completely on Steiner's spiritual science called anthroposophy, which is abouit reincarnating the child, ready for the time when spirtual beings manifest themselves, and those who have had spiritual education will be able to communicate clairvoyantly.

His version of reincarnation includes a spiritual hierarchy which puts dark skin at the bottom.( The schools aren't overtly racist, but as Steiner is their guru, and he believes this, it is a central part of anthroposophic belief)
Personally, we had covert racial issues, hich put the lid on our decision to pull out our kids.Along with bullying- a past life issue, intervening would interupt their karmic path, our youngest having to use her right hand- left handedness shows karmic weakness.....
The children are bored to death by the rigid teaching system, and copying from the board, no other visual or aural stimulation ( one teacher for seven years is terrible if the teacher is crap, boring even if the teacher is good...

If this is ok with you fine.

Janni · 16/05/2008 20:27

Sprocketgirl - I had a six year involvement with Steiner. Kindergarten is nice for children who are not thriving elsewhere because there's a lot of outdoor play and work with the hands rather than academic stuff BUT as northern said there's a whole philosophy behind it that you won't be let in on until your child is well settled at the school. A lot will be demanded of you as a parent and if you decide to move your child elsewhere a few years down the line there will be an immense amount of catching up for them to do.

Unless you are an alternative type through and through and want nothing to do with the modern world I wouldn't do it if I were you.

Which area of the world are we talking about BTW?

isenhart7 · 16/05/2008 21:05

"Hello, this is my first ever message on any sort of internet chat thing......are you talking about Steiner schools in UK, America or Europe?"

To answer your question directly, or at all for that matter-which apparently posed too great a challenge for Janni and northernrefugee39-I only have experience with Waldorf Schools in America. There are residents of Europe and the UK here as well. Hope that helps you orient yourself and welcome!

northernrefugee39 · 16/05/2008 21:15

Sprocketgirl, Janni is quite right to point out the enormous comitiment to fundraising you will be expected to do( for the school, not Burma, China or anything like that, the school's first priority is themselves and their spiritual path)
I am in Britain, as is Janni, right?
Hi isenhart

(Followers of Steiner don't really like the sordid truth out in the open. It bursts the bubbble. They keep a close watch on activity)

isenhart7 · 16/05/2008 21:25

"Hi isenhart "

Good day to you, northernrefugee39
-off now to watch the annual Spring procession and weaving of the Maypole.

barking · 16/05/2008 21:27

Is there something in your eye Isenhart?

barking · 16/05/2008 21:30

must be your karma

Janni · 16/05/2008 22:06

Isenhart - I am sorry if, in your eyes, I failed to respond appropriately to Sprocketgirl. I told the truth as I see it.

isenhart7 · 16/05/2008 23:19

"Is there something in your eye Isenhart?"

No, I have people for that, barking, or didn't you notice?

isenhart7 · 16/05/2008 23:22

"Isenhart - I am sorry if, in your eyes, I failed to respond appropriately to Sprocketgirl."

Very well.

"I told the truth as I see it."

Then carry on...

Janni · 16/05/2008 23:27

? ?

I've already said all I have to say about my experience of Steiner, on this thread and if Sprocketgirl wants to she can read it all here or she can CAT me and I will speak to her privately.

We have been out of Steiner for a couple of months now and it is just such a huge relief.
I do feel guilty though that my children are having to work so hard to catch up with their peers in regular schools..

Powerofjoy2004 · 17/05/2008 01:11

Hello, Sprocketgirl:

My son attended a Waldorf school for eight years and my daughter for five. I was one of those brainwashed Waldorf parents who bought into the belief that it was better than mainstream schools. My husband and I saw many red flags that should have told us we were wrong. We ignored them, however, until a red flag situation affected our family directly. Then we finally understood why so many families we knew had left the school in anger.

I joined an Internet forum for survivors of Waldorf schools and discovered people from all over the world sharing their horror stories about Waldorf. For the past five or six years, I have continued to research Waldorf education, Anthroposophy and Rudolf Steiner. It's my opinion that children who attend Waldorf schools are, at the very least, cheated of a proper education and that most parents, no matter how involved as volunteers, have no idea what really goes on in Waldorf classrooms. It's not just about what is missing from their education; it's also about the nonsense that is taught, which is rife with negativity about anything outside of Waldorf. This can have a detrimental impact on a developing child's view of the world.

I do not hate Anthroposophists. Some of them are nice people. I am here because I want to spare other families from buying into what I consider to be cult propaganda.

Best of luck to you in finding a good school.

Margaret Sachs

Barking at

Well said Margeret.

Last night I had a long conversation with a friend about the dire state of things at a school in the South East of England. There's a real rumpus going on, many parents up in arms.
Someon else told me last week that people are pulling their kids out of another school in the midlands because of severe bullying, and nothing being done about it. The staff brush it off, won't discuss it at meetings.

The schools wil try and pass these off as isolated incidents, but of course these stories are so common in Steiner schools.

barking · 17/05/2008 14:57

or is it a squint from watching too much telly....
