How old? Next, Asda and M&S offer different fits (skinny, slim regular) they also usually have adjustable waists.

SpringOfContentment · 22/04/2024 07:14

M&S extra long allows you to go down 2 ages and still get the length and adjustable waist.

DappledThings · 22/04/2024 07:18

All the supermarkets do the trousers and shorts with elastic waists you can massively reduce.

Needanewname42 · 22/04/2024 07:20

M&S slim fit, you need to look out for the slim fit not just slim / skinny leg.

The shirts are more fitted and the waist is slimmer than standard but still with the adjustable waist.

These don't fit right if pulled in too far, particularly since it's only half elasticated. It's all gathered at the bum.

Slim fit and skinny styles are often the same waist size, just fitted on the leg more. I would go with M&S long or extra long, then the age that gives you the right length.

TheLongpigs · 22/04/2024 07:26

M&S slim fit. Get both shirts and trousers and they fit DS13 really well. He's not super-skinny. Just tall and slim.

NerrSnerr · 22/04/2024 07:30

For my primary school age son M&S worked well. When he was in reception he had to wear joggers though as even the tiniest M&S trousers were too small.

School clothes seem to be sized massive, he has just turned 7 and is just growing out of M&S age 3-4 trousers. He's small (usually wears 5-6 joggers) but not that small.

Cheshireflamingo · 22/04/2024 07:34

M&S but do try to go into a store to try on. The sizes based on age have always been fairly meaningless for my tall DS

Needanewname42 · 22/04/2024 07:35

You need to read the descriptions carefully slim fit is in the waist slim leg is in the leg fit.
So you get standard fit / regular / slim / skinny legs
And slim fit / regular / slim / skinny legs
Also plus fit / regular / slim legs

Slim fit shirts are narrower at the waist too.

Filtering by slim fit trousers on m&s just directs to slim leg with the same waist measurement on the size chart. Size chart only specifies different measurements for length. Maybe somewhere else does them?

DelurkingAJ · 22/04/2024 07:40

ASDA do extra length trousers too and slim fit polo shirts. Elasticated waists seem to stop at age 10 and yes, look a bit odd on the very slim.

Where we’ve really struggled is joggers…someone here pointed me at Uniqlo where the ladies XS works for DS1.

Seainasive · 22/04/2024 07:44

Next slim fit trousers (on line only) for smaller waist. For teens, River Island an M&S do very small men’s sizes in joggers.

CuntRYMusicStar · 22/04/2024 07:54

We got m&s skinny for trousers for ds and the best thing about them is they still look new almost 8 months in after countless knee slides, tumble drying and ironing.

Also I like the adjustable waists. They have a slim fit too which are slightly less fitted on the legs - I took ds in and had him try them on to pick which fit best.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 22/04/2024 07:58

Next is my go to for exceedingly tall skinny DS. Slim fit, skinny leg extra long…

Slim fit rather than Slim leg see the image attached, I'd already filtered on Boys Trousers.

Asda do skinny fit schools shirts. My ds like the 'jean style' slim fit trousers from there too.

That's what I did and it directed to slim leg with the same waist measurement on the size chart. A few years back I needed to get the long in a smaller size instead.

DisforDarkChocolate · 22/04/2024 08:27

We used to buy from M&S, extra slim fit trousers with the adjustable waist. We had to try on a few to get the right leg length.

WildCherryBlossom · 22/04/2024 10:44

I've tried various brands and always find M&S by far the best for slim fit uniform. Bought John Lewis so called slim fit at the start of this school year and bit by bit I'm replacing with M&S again.

Hopebridge · 22/04/2024 11:33

Thank you. He is nearly 11 so will be for his secondary school uniform. He's slim and tall. He's staring to get broader shoulders now. He does have next school trousers at the moment but wanted to see what other options I could look at.

I have found supermarket trousers that are adjustable give the baggy bottom effect and he finds them big on his legs so doesn't like them. Appreciate all the replies :)

I've found the two pack - I couldn't find them last year.

M&S sizes are so confusing they should probably revert to selling them in actual sizes like mens trousers waist size and inside leg.

For each age they do 3 waist sizes, Regular, Slim and Plus.
And 2 or 3 leg lengths

How to confuse?

M&S does a good slim fit both leg and bottom but only in black now i think. Ds has had these for years. M&s and Asda also do joggers with actual tie waists unlike most which are decoration.

autumnleavesandrugby · 22/04/2024 15:57

Next super skinny leg with slim fit waist have done mine all the way through high school. Previously he was also in a size down but now he’s 16+ he needs the correct age. Slim fit shirts from Next or M&S are both fine and wash/dry well.

autumnleavesandrugby · 22/04/2024 16:00

On Next you choose the style you want (eg slim leg or skinny leg) then you get choice of slim / standard / plus waist on the drop down.
