FrannyandZooey · 02/03/2008 18:49

oh I thought it said the stern folk
because the titles are all in capitals

I got into a small ruck with one once and they were stern and dour
and kind of DRIVEN to debunk steiner

I am mildly worried in case anyone thinks that zzooey one is me

fryalot · 02/03/2008 18:50

OHT - hide the thread before starting a thread complaining about it? where's the fun in that?

ahundredtimes · 02/03/2008 18:52

OH YES. It says Steiner folk doesn't it? Ah.

Some are DRIVEN to defend. Others are DRIVEN to debunk. I think they have been waging this war for hundreds of years, and one sect has the Grail and the others want it must walk across the Land of Moons and Ogres to retrieve it.

That's what I think.

FrannyandZooey · 02/03/2008 18:54

brimfull · 02/03/2008 19:06

they occasionally amuse me when they perform eurythmy dances outside waitrose..havemissed the gnomes so far...obviously not blessed

ahundredtimes · 02/03/2008 19:07

The gnomes are guarding the Grail. They haven't got time to be doing Eurythmy outside Waitrose.

brimfull · 02/03/2008 19:08

aah that's why they're missing..thought they were inside scoffing innocent smoothies

Blandmum · 02/03/2008 19:11

Humphreycushion - "It's like the Da Vinci code, without any plotline.

Or Tom Hanks". Love it!

I have been involved in some of the discussions, which centre on the hidden underbelly of waldorf/steiner schools called anthroposophy. There are (I think) about 5 mums in the uk on mumsnet who have had bad experiences and want to talk about it.

I have talked about my experiences of steiner on mumsnet before - probably over the last 4 years with no problems.

I haven't come across eva52 before (also known as sune) he seems to scan the internet for any negative press then chases people around the web who dare to question or try and discuss steiner/waldorf. He trys to derail any discussion by advertising his websites and posting huge swathes of text - an anthroposophical Benny Hill if you like

Be prepared, he will be on here before long......

They were not all Cambridge Grads, there was a bit of a range, but there was only one working class poster.

They did try to make an effort to get a range of posters, so someone introduced a jewish poster when there had been lots of antosemotic posts.

they would send articles to the editor (who changed each year) who would bind up the articles and they were sent round the members in a rota. people would annotate as it went.

It is a facinating read, and while their lives are so different from ours in so many ways, the core is just the same as MN

Blu · 02/03/2008 20:07

Having always understood (in a rather lazy way) that Steiner schools were a rather superior alternative education with highly attractive ideals of art and following the child's individual development, but then being surprised y some RL contacts pulling out of Steiner schools, the whole ting has been a bit of an eye-opener to me.

I think it is raging because it is quite new for Steiner to be 'unpacked' with this much detail. i.e most people think like I did, or are more knowledgeable and keen advocates.

Blandmum · 02/03/2008 20:14

My 'understanding' of it, prior to reading a few MN threads, was that it was a Montisori style, 'alternative' education, independent of the NC etc.

nkf · 02/03/2008 20:16

I knew vaguely that Steiner was supposed to have held questionable views but I didn't know the details. I also knew that the easiest way to annoy a Steiner parent was to say: "It sounds marvellous but perhaps not great if your child is quite academic." Gets them every time for some reason.
