Why do people ask about Steiner schools? Is it?

And Why do Eastern People talk about it?

Eastern people?

I'm quite fascinated by that thread, bloods run high. They wage wars on other talkboards too, they refer to it.

ahundredtimes · 02/03/2008 18:16

I'm going to start a thread saying

why does Cod get involved in the babies at weddings threads.

fryalot · 02/03/2008 18:17

What is a Steiner school then?

(and as I live very close to the East coast, should I be considering one?)

Blandmum · 02/03/2008 18:17

Cod, I'm reading a book about a group of women in the 1930s who started a magazine that was rather like MN. They had a regular poster who couldn't type, and you instantly sprang to mind!

Your Granny didn't post under the name of Roxanne, did she?

(the used to flounce as well, God but I'm seeing parallels)

Have you started the job yet??

ahundredtimes · 02/03/2008 18:18

Oooh what's the book MB?

nkf · 02/03/2008 18:19

Not Eastern. Estonian. Estonians are fascinated by Steiner.

Blandmum · 02/03/2008 18:19

'Can any mother help?'

Tis fabbo!

ahundredtimes · 02/03/2008 18:20

Or Etonians? How about that?

Now Why oh Why are Etonians so interested in Steiner education?

fryalot · 02/03/2008 18:22

ah, that's me out then.

Not Estonian and didn't go to Eton.

But I've eaten a lot if that counts?

ahundredtimes · 02/03/2008 18:23

You need to eat a grapefruit.

How about the Eurythmy folk? Now that'd make sense.

fryalot · 02/03/2008 18:23

don't like grapefruit.

I have an album by the Eurythmics somewhere... will that do?

ahundredtimes · 02/03/2008 18:26

Yes. I know you don't like grapefruit. [creepy memory alert]

Cod, come back and tell us wtf you meant.

Saturn74 · 02/03/2008 18:27

Have run out of steam for reading the Steiner threads now.

They copy and paste HUGE swathes of other posts, and massive bits of text from other sites.

Then add one sentence at the end, stating that they disagree with everything they have just copied and posted.

I am beginning to think they should be forced to type a bibliography at the end, or risk losing points for plagarism.

It's like the Da Vinci code, without any plotline.

Or Tom Hanks.

Blandmum · 02/03/2008 18:28

Or lincoln cathedral!

bundle · 02/03/2008 18:33

i don't vote in the american elections but i can still have an opinion on them

sushistar · 02/03/2008 18:39

Yeah, I'm well confused by those threads! They all know and loathe each other, and it's all a bit matrix - all that stuff about aliens or something? And apparently black crayons are very important?

It's good to see people passionate about what they believe in i guess...

Blandmum · 02/03/2008 18:43

according to some there is an elemet of semi Nazi racism in Stiener. His ideas on science are often uttely bonkers. Some school will not let kids sart to rread until their second teeth come in, and teach the kids that gnomes are real.

Other people say it is all loevly, holistic, child centered, not a gnome in sight, better to wait to be older to start formal learning, nature loving

Have I missed anything, and should I have types that lot in CAPS LOCK?

fryalot · 02/03/2008 18:45

hmm...

going off MB's description, I think I'll keep the kids at the local primary.

ahundredtimes · 02/03/2008 18:45

Oh yes, there is a lot of shouting on that thread. And they are all age-old rivals and everybody is bound up in conspiracy theories.

Not nearly as dignified as the HE threads we both enjoy so much.

nkf · 02/03/2008 18:46

If you are interested in children (which is MN users) and intersted in education (also MN users) then Steiner and home education and private versus state are all interesting debates. Steiner and home education particulaly because they involve non mainstream ideas about how children learn.

But the Estonians may have other views.

ahundredtimes · 02/03/2008 18:47

Those pesky Estonian Etonians.

bundle · 02/03/2008 18:48

so they're not mainstream, but still involve following someone else's philosophy - I think that's what I just don't get about them - rejectting one method for another.
