Where to buy a suit for sixth form ds

Hello,

ds needs a dark (charcoal, navy or pinstriped) suit for his sixth form uniform. I don’t want something that looks ill-fitting and shiny, but OTOH it needs to survive the wear and tear that a 16yo will give it.

I have another child at a different school and he had his suit made by the tailors near it - no other option, but I expect most people for ds’s school buy things ready-made.

For anyone else who’s been in this situation, where did you buy yours from?

Moss Bross. Next.
Dh is superb at buying clothes, bought ds1 eBay 2nd hand suits x 3 for 6th form. Superb. He looked incredibly dapper.

Ince you know you're measurements, 2nd hand on eBay can be £5-£25. Bargain!

Moss Bros were doing a 6th form bundle when we got for DS, jacket, 2 pairs of trousers and 2 shirts.

Update - we went suit shopping today. M&S was just awful. No one to provide assistance so it was a case of guessing sizes and trying to find something suitable. Got to the changing rooms and there was another mum and son pair shopping for a suit, turns out he and DS are going to the same sixth form.

DS came out wearing the suit and I admitted that I was out of my depth - I couldn’t tell if it fitted, he couldn’t tell if it fitted, lovely chap waiting for his partner in the changing rooms said it was probably too broad in the shoulders, so I found a menswear store near us, and went there. It was brilliant, they found the right size straight away, and alterations to the sleeve length and trouser length were included in the price. We got the right size shirts too. Other mum from M&S wandered in with her DS while we were there!

I think M&S or Next is probably okay if you know what you’re doing: perhaps if it’s a Dad who wears suits and understands menswear sizing, but if it’s a mother-son trip, I would recommend a menswear store. It was also the same price as M&S would have been.

Was going to recommend Slaters or local menswear shop, especially if your ds us anything other than a very standard size. They seem to have an uncanny ability to sense the right sort of size and style, and then narrow the store’s stock down to a couple of choices. Unhemmed trousers that the shop turned up were a particular Godsend for ds with 26 inch waist snd 36 inch inside leg measurements, and prices were reasonable.

We did find one in M and S but yes no one around to help except one guy did find a tape measure so we could measure my son's neck size. Was going to go to Next but walked past a suit shop and bought one in there where a sales assistant was very helpful and it was on sale. Now shirt shopping. Bought a pack from Next and some more from M and S online as our local shop doesn't stock them. Good value on a mixed pack but ds refuses to wear pink. lol
I did find some lovely ones in TK Maxx but then noticed they were cufflinks so thought that would be a big fat no too. One more year!!!

Next. We get the washable ones.
