Shocked by hatred of kids & parents on TES website

I've spent a bit of time reading the TES website which contains threads and postings from teachers and I am stunned by the level of hatred and abuse directed towards students and their parents. I am horrified to think that some of these creatures may actually be teaching my kids!
It appears that the "state of war" we read about it British classrooms is by no means one way traffic - the teachers
seem to relish getting in on the all the drama.

OP posts:

Why thankyou Molly. However - I will keep them in my drawer if that's ok.

rainfatclouds · 02/03/2010 09:14

Lucinda, who are you? You seem like a whistleblower. You are a teacher, TA? Sorry if I've missed this. Please say more if you can.

EXCUSE me? Don't be so silly. Try and read between the lines of my post - the way some people are talking, you would think all teachers are evil and hate children in general. If that was the case, I'm sure there would be LOTS of posts dedicated to pupil-hating. The fact I've used TES for six years and haven't come across the level of vitriol people on here are describing would indicate that it's not as rife on TES as you would imagine from reading this thread.

McSnail · 02/03/2010 09:18

Lucinda is a regularly banned TES troll. I recognise his posting style. That's all I'm saying on the matter.

rainfatclouds · 02/03/2010 09:20

Well we've got enough of our own do we have to have yours as well? For Pete's sake.

Oh good, I really thought you were saying it was never used. To say it's not rife makes sense.

However, I wasn't being in the least bit silly.

McSnail · 02/03/2010 09:22

Sorry, rain.

PreachyPeachyRantsALot · 02/03/2010 09:23

We've had a teacher troll think they are following someone onto here before and be incredibly, mind shockingly nasty (MN did take note)

That rather amde me

But with 4 children you get to see a mix, and we have had some stunning teachers and TA's.... and a few that I would (and indeed am) actively move schools to avoid. This is doubly so in the middle sector between state and private, which is where we are (faith / VA etc etc) as the LEA admit they have limited powers.

A lot of my Uni mates went on to PGCE though and I can categorically state that every ojne I thought wasn't suited was weeded out in six months. The ones that remained were the talented ones who genuinely
wanted to be there as opposed to after the cash (teachers wages may not seem too much in London, here in S E Wales they set you apart).

By and large I have faith in the teaching profession, but it is inevitable in such a alrge community that a few bad 'uns get through. At least if they are venting on TES they are not near the kids.

McSnail, What is the weather like in Glasgow today?

LucindaCarlisle · 02/03/2010 09:26

Please Ignore McSnail.

She has quite clearly illustrated the way she bullies people who simply disagree with her.

McSnail · 02/03/2010 09:27

Riven, as I've said, I have never seen 'speshul' or 'retard' being used. And OF COURSE I and most other posters on TES would find it totally unacceptable and yes, the perp would be pulled up and quite possibly reported.

McSnail · 02/03/2010 09:28

In my experience.

Shocking.

PreachyPeachyRantsALot · 02/03/2010 09:30

Oh and IME of the sector, SNU schools are the palces to find the loveliest staff as they actively chose to teach that group, the teachers who work with ds3 are wonderful.

OTOH the teachers that work with ds1 (and to an extent ds2 though far more mildly) did not choose to work with SEN and SN as when the school recruited them they were not accepted. However I have to say my sympathy is non existent limited as the boys didn't choose their needs, either.

I'd place good ash that a former teacher we had posts on TES, she ahs had a great deal of complaints amde against her to the LEA but they were never dealthj with becuase the school can't be forced to in its unusual set up. The parents know who she is (not at boys current school) but until the bad eggs can be removed what hope do the brights stars have?

One of my boys she dismissed as not bright enough to read yesterday got 2nd in the Eisteddfod btw, performing the witch speech from macbeth aged 9. Whcih says a lot about what a good school and dedictaed teaching can do more than about what one dodgy one can.

PreachyPeachyRantsALot · 02/03/2010 09:31

Riv

When we found out ds4 was a boy, dodegy teacher decided to tell him that was a shame as more boys have autism (ds2 has 2 asd siblings). I mean, ffs

PreachyPeachyRantsALot · 02/03/2010 09:32

( and in case anyone reading this from home, this is not C or E schools LOL- people on here know my boys attended those)

Riv did ytou see the one I had last week, who told me that she had all tests done as she didn't want to inflict sn on her older children? Within a line of finding out I had a child after the otheres were dx'd?

Even in this weather, most of the pupils at our secondary school do not wear overcoats, because there is nowhere safe and secure to store them in the school.

LucindaCarlisle · 02/03/2010 10:29

Some nitwit on TES suggested that TES should be for teachers only, that was just a few weeks ago. Actually TES Forum is not just for teachers.
But, on the other hand, I seem to remember that because some teachers on the old Parents centre were being nasty about Special educational needs children, that some Parents wanted there to be a Parents only section on Parents centre.

PreachyPeachyRantsALot · 02/03/2010 10:54

Aren't teachers usually parents as well?
