Pagan faith school / college

There are many faith schools, but no Pagan ones, and I'd be interested to hear some opinions on the subject. Would you like to have attended one, or would you consider sending your children to one in the future, for example?

If it was like Hogwarts, maybe!

Eyerollcentral · 07/04/2023 13:51

Lol! How is it going to be structured? There is no pagan liturgy or set beliefs are there? I don’t imagine it would have a very broad appeal.

suzyscat · 07/04/2023 13:54

Steiner schools are quite pagan. They do biodynamic gardening and tend to celebrate most of the pagan sabbats.

Fairislefandango · 07/04/2023 13:57

I don't think there should be state-funded faith schools at all. And I doubt there would be the demand for pagan ones!

Nimbostratus100 · 07/04/2023 14:07

steiner schools are pagan

Nimbostratus100 · 07/04/2023 14:08

but there are thousands of pagan belief systems, so it would be unlikely that many of them would get enough believers together in the UK to open a school

DaughtersofFrya · 07/04/2023 16:31

Perhaps focusing on issues that all Pagans, or at least the vast majority, would agree on, such as seeing divinity in nature. It could be an outdoor school, for the most part.

I don't think enough people follow Paganism in the UK to justify opening Pagan schools. Since about the 4th century, it's very much been a fringe belief system in the UK.

According to Prof. Ronald Hutton, in Triumph of the Moon (1999), there are around a quarter of a million Pagans in the UK.

Steiner schools are pagan.

DaughtersofFrya · 07/04/2023 17:02

A number of people have mentioned Steiner schools but these are far more New Age, than Pagan.

Lol out of 60 million people!!!!

ErrolTheDragon · 07/04/2023 17:05

There aren't any atheist or humanist schools either - because why on earth would anyone decent want to create a school which discriminated for/against children on the basis of their parents beliefs, or lack thereof, or indoctrinate them?

Teach kids how to think, not what to think.

Yes, a similar figure to Buddhism and Judaism.

The same could be said of any faith school.

They are both organised religions. Paganism isn’t. What’s the point in this school?

well, there you have your issue, straight away, who gets to define pagan? There are countless pagan belief systems, and they are all likely to say the others are not true pagans.

Steiner schools are 100% pagan, according to my definition of pagan, and the common definition of pagan

some steiner people consider themselves pagan. some consider themselves something else, or dont use a definition at all

But to me, it is as pagan as it is possible to me

Pagan parents are often very dissatisfied with the state school system, and this would offer them an alternative.

Dissatisfied with what specifically? What alternative do the need to accommodate their beliefs?

I don't disagree with you about not havinf exclusionary schools, but I am confused as to how this doesn't already exist in the uk with CofE/CofW or Catholic schools, along with other religious schools that also exist?

Wouldn't non denominational schools be better than another school based around a specific set of beliefs?

SoupDragon · 07/04/2023 17:15

Education should not be "segregated" by religion at all, at least in the state sector. People can set up and pay for whatever private school they wish.

Yes, of course it exists, that doesn't mean it's a good thing which pagans or anyone else should seek to emulate!
