Arriving to school in games kit - what does your child's school do?

TooHotKeepCool · 15/06/2021 14:27

My DC currently have to wear their games kit on the days they have games, which is the days out of five.

The school's uniform policy states that the children must arrive at school wearing their jogging bottoms (with their shorts underneath) as well as their tracksuit top. They will not allow them to arrive at school in their games shorts even in this warm weather. They are then told once they arrive at school whether or not they're allowed to remove their tracksuit top and/or bottoms.

When they are in their smart dress, which they would be in five days a week, were it not for the pandemic, they are allowed to arrive at school in their smart shorts.

Just wondering if your child's school makes your children arrive in their tracksuit top and tracksuit bottoms if they now have to go to school wearing their games kit some days?

Just trying to gain some perspective, so would really appreciate your thoughts. Thank you!

My DS has to wear games kit on a monday. That is currently his cricket whites and either his school blazer or his midlayer.

To be honest it isnt any different from going in his school uniform. Which imo is quite tough in the heat

mynameisbrian · 15/06/2021 14:32

I should add when it wasnt cricket season he also had to arrive wearing full tracksuit. No turning up in shorts allowed

Watto1 · 15/06/2021 14:35

Dd has gone to school today in just skort and t-shirt as it’s a PE day. However, on non-PE days they have to wear their blazer until they are given permission to remove it.

sometimescharlottesometimesnot · 15/06/2021 14:37

My dd had gone in in skort and pe top (pe jumper as well but only because was chilly when she left).

Willwebebuyingnumber11 · 15/06/2021 14:38

My DD wears games kit on a Wednesday but can wear the school Logo’s shorts & T-shirt’s during the summer terms.

roobicoobi · 15/06/2021 14:44

No. Our schools operate a policy of common sense.

Thegreymethod · 15/06/2021 14:44

Ours have to wear PE kit on PE days but can wear shorts or joggers, and when they wear joggers they don't have to wear shorts too! I can't imagine it's being very comfortable on hot days like today with shorts and joggers on! Schools and uniforms are bizarre at times!

SuperMonkeys · 15/06/2021 14:52

Ours have been told categorically not to wear joggers/jumpers at the moment because it is just too warm. So they go in in PE shorts and t shirt.

My ds goes in with shorts and t-shirt on. He doesn't own tracksuit trousers and it's not part of the school pe kit

Our school do not care. They no longer have an official P.E. day unform. We used to have to buy the school jogger and jumper but now we just need to send them wearing shorts with green, black or grey joggers either on their legs or on their bags incase they get cold. On normal unform days, they can wear grey trousers or shorts with their polo or shirt and green jumpers should worn or be in their bags incase they get cold.
It's not a P.E day today, but was very warm and their smart shorts are in the wash so I sent my 2 in with their polo shirts and wearing their mountain warehouse great walking/cargo shorts. They're the right colour so school dont care.

Pretty much as long as it's the correct colours and suitable for the activities of the day, they can turn up in shorts or trousers any day of the week.

TheWatersofMarch · 15/06/2021 14:58

My son can wear PE shorts or trackers on PE days, depends on the weather.

helpmewiththispleez · 15/06/2021 15:38

How old, put them on at the door ?

SpaceRaiders · 15/06/2021 15:43

Mine wear just their sweatshirts, skorts and t-shirt. Thick felt wool blazers are worn over the top all year round. I must admit I don’t get it, but those are the rules.

TooHotKeepCool · 15/06/2021 19:30

Thank you for your responses. It seems that most schools allow you to choose whether you send your child in in shorts/trousers/joggers...the common sense approach which seems to be lacking at my DC's school.

@helpmewiththispleez

My DC are 9 and almost 11. I don't think the school would be very impressed with my DC putting their joggers on by the school door unfortunately.

Since Covid mine has to wear PE kit to school 3 out of 5 days a week. PE kit is t shirt (house colours) and black joggers or black shorts, with school PE jumper on top. And trainers, any variety. They don’t have to wear the jumper if they don’t want to, they can wear shorts or joggers, school don’t mind which.

Paddingtonthebear · 15/06/2021 19:37

This is junior school 7-11yrs though, not secondary or private which could be different / more strict

Thegreymethod · 15/06/2021 20:28

@dementedpixie joggers aren't part of our uniform usually we had to buy them specifically for wearing whilst this is going on (as if we've not bought enough wasted uniform over the last 2 school years!) Some parents also requested a special PE hoody with the school badge on but thankfully school said normal uniform jumpers should be worn!

SaltAndVinegarSandwiches · 18/06/2021 22:56

That's crazy OP. My DC turn up in any valid games kit. Obviously at the moment everyone wears shorts. As a side note this makes me wonder why we bother with school uniform in primary. It would bemuch more sensible to just wear games kit the whole time.

TooHotKeepCool · 18/06/2021 23:35

@SaltAndVinegarSandwiches

Yes, totally crazy. Surprisingly, I don't think other parents have a problem with it. They just accept the status quo.

We take Pe kits in on a Monday and they change into them. Shorts or joggers, kids choice. Shorts AND joggers on all day in this heat is bloody ridiculous

kezziethecat · 19/06/2021 07:17

Mine does exactly the same as yours. I have friends at other local primaries and it seems to be becoming the done thing due to missing out of PE time due to how long it takes changing.

I hoped they would return after another year.

Our school allows them to wear any combination of PE shorts/tracksuit bottoms, PE t-shirt/sweatshirt and long/short socks. Nobody could care less which combination it is, or indeed what they take on or off during the day.
