RICHMOND primary schools - did everyone get a place after all?

Really just asking out of interest, as I had read in the newspapers and on mn that there was a severe shortage of state primary school places (-240), and lots of people ended up with no place at all or with a place at a school they didn't want for various reasons (distance, bottom of league tables, sibling at different school etc.).

Now that the term has started, I haven't heard anything any more but am really wondering how the problem was sorted, where everyone ended up, what came out of appeals and so on.

We got our first choice school too - thank goodness - was really stressing about this, particularly as DS currently goes to the nursery there and is really happy. Anyone else in Teddington?

wow, what a different to last year, no one got anywhere!

Maybe it's true that last year was a birth peak and this year wasn't going to be so bad. I can't believe it but everyone i have spoken to so far has got their first choice. Incredible! Feel so lucky (and so relieved not to be taking up the private school place i had as back up, how on earth we were going to afford it i didn't know!!)

Amidaiwish - that's not far from us - we're in south Teddington and DS1 is going to Collis - which school have you got into?

Miggsie · 21/03/2008 16:44

WHOOPS!
FIRST choice I mean!
I think last year must have been a fluke with so many newcomers to the area?

amidaiwish · 21/03/2008 16:48

i think a lot of champagne was drunk in twick/teddington last night.

or was that just us?

we were SO BLOODY PLEASED!

Miggsie · 21/03/2008 16:51

I was jumping up and down!
DH says "I never doubted it"...lucky him.
My brother, who lives in middle of Bugger Boo nowhere land in Wales was amazed at all the fuss, they have one school within 20 miles, so they had no choice and never bothered with forms or anything!

amidaiwish · 21/03/2008 16:54

where did you get?

dh was more relieved than me, i was all ready to find the money for private... he wasn't... think we avoided one almighty barney!!!

Miggsie · 21/03/2008 16:58

Hampton Infants...
DD went there on a visit and clicked with the reception teacher!
We had private as back up, not needed now, phew!

MaryAnnSmotheredinchocolate · 21/03/2008 16:58

Miggsie · 21/03/2008 16:59

...people from Hounslow apply for Hampton schools I have noticed!

QuintessentiallyAnEmptyCave · 21/03/2008 17:50

MaryAnn, yes I remember! We are moving back to my native Norway. Shame to leave such a brilliant school, and my son has settled so well. My youngest is at the montessori next door.

MaryAnnSmotheredinchocolate · 21/03/2008 18:20

ah, I remember now !
