RICHMOND primary schools - did everyone get a place after all?

Giuliettatoday · 06/09/2007 09:51

Really just asking out of interest, as I had read in the newspapers and on mn that there was a severe shortage of state primary school places (-240), and lots of people ended up with no place at all or with a place at a school they didn't want for various reasons (distance, bottom of league tables, sibling at different school etc.).

Now that the term has started, I haven't heard anything any more but am really wondering how the problem was sorted, where everyone ended up, what came out of appeals and so on.

body balance is on at 7.45 on a monday
timetable

it is a mix of pilates, tai chi and yoga. so lots of stretching etc without the "worthiness" of yoga!! (i'm not a yoga fan, could never quite get the hang of the breathing). Doesn't use weights. I haven't done it at amida so not sure how difficult it is but on the whole it's just stretching so i guess you push it as far as you like!

eleusis · 19/09/2007 09:12

Oh, not for me then. I like a bit of action and would want to burn a few hundred calories in an hours workout.

The thing Amida lacks on their website is meaningful explanations of the classes.

eleusis · 19/09/2007 09:21

Have you been to any of these?

Body Attack
An intense cardiovascular workout provides excellent x-training for all sports and with easy to follow choreographed exercises.

Body Combat
Combines powerful moves developed from a range of self-defence disciplines. Set to music in one great adrenaline pumping class.

Body Pump
Athletic-based workout using barbells & weights to work every major muscle group in the body.( Suitable for Men & Women of all ages & fitness levels).

amidaiwish · 19/09/2007 09:44

my dh likes body combat - like a boxing aerobics class, but it looks really really hard!

i used to do body pump a lot when i was at holmes place. i think it is great for toning fast. however, i think it is very very easy to injure yourself and at least half the people in the class are doing too heavy weights and not doing the full rep. It's really difficult to get the position perfect, yet you have to to get the full benefit. i've had some personal training sessions and only now realise i wasn't doing the moves perfectly in body pump. most personal trainers say they can't bear to even watch the class. So, i don't do it any more!

ladygrinningsoul · 19/09/2007 16:13

I've been to all three, though I only do Pump and Attack now. If you want a super aerobic workout burning lots of calories, either Combat or Attack will do just nicely. I love the challenge of Pump, but amida is right about it being hard to get the technique correct (I went to a couple of technique classes and found that very helpful). The evening Pump classes are full of people lifting weights that are too heavy with poor technique.

amidaiwish · 19/09/2007 17:30

lgs - which body pump class do you go to now? i might come along...

ladygrinningsoul · 19/09/2007 17:55

Thursday mornings, or Wednesday night if for some reason I can't make Thursday.

amidaiwish · 19/09/2007 18:27

i have the children at home on thursday mornings so that's no good unless i can get them in the creche (impossible!) ... weds eve dh rows, so will have to look for another time.

newgirl · 19/09/2007 18:32

sorry i have nothing to add to body pump discussion (i do like yoga though!) - i was wondering - i live on church road - which would be our nearest primary - we are ages away yet

ladygrinningsoul · 19/09/2007 19:00

Amida, there are lots of other pump classes, but usually a bit early in the evening for me to get to - will probably see you at the Monday night balance class in a couple of weeks' time though (busy next week).

It's a good time to start any of those classes as the routines are changing next week (and then run for 3 months).

newgirl, Map here

Is it Church Road, Teddington?

amidaiwish · 19/09/2007 20:10

hi newgirl - how old are your dc's?

if you live in teddington, collis is supposed to be fantastic.

newgirl · 20/09/2007 18:44

our church road goes up from richmond station to richmond hill so i think the nearest are vineyard, marshgate and st elizabeth's catholic school - we are not catholics so that is out. Any clues on these? only 18 months at the mo so we may well move yet!

amidaiwish · 21/09/2007 08:30

sorry, don't know about the schools in Richmond centre, but tbh pretty much ALL the schools are good.

buggybored · 26/09/2007 20:22

I heard that some children were initially offered places miles away (eg school in Hampton when they live in East Sheen)- is that where they ended up? Would have to give up work to do that kind of school run!

amidaiwish · 20/03/2008 08:18
