dd not allowed to wear shoes in school during winter term

DD has just started reception and I have had a letter home tonight stating that as the weather is getting worse as winter approaches, all children from next Monday have to wear plimsolls in class and must change in and out of outdoor shoes to save the carpets. Lovely that they look after the school but can't help wondering why I paid £40 for a pair of fitted school shoes.

Actually (bit more thought) - plimmies can't be good for feet when worn all day - not well fitted and smelly.

it's dds first term at school so no didn't know, not really worried about cost of shoes but am a bit concerned re plimmies all day.

You can get Clarks plimmies in width fittings if it helps??

The school my boys went to had this rule - apparently to save wear and tear on the floors!! It struck me that the planners of a building full of children might have been better to install an easy care floor. I resented paying out for good shoes they woudl wear for 30 mins a day. I hated my children wearing plimsolls all day and got them open-toe sandals to wear until they grew old enough to protest.

Ds1's school rule is - Clarks or proper school shoes for indoors, and other shoes for outdoors. So his lovely new school shoes, I never get to see, and I take him to school in a pair of trainers which he changes at school. Last term he had three pairs of shoes + wellies which for 4.5 I think is a bit excessive. Ds1 feet are wide so would not buy cheap shoes aka m&S/Next etc. This rule goes right up to and includes year 6!

Does it have to be plimsolls during the day? Could you get her a pair of leather trainers, so at least you know her feet won't be suffering?
