dd not allowed to wear shoes in school during winter term

DD has just started reception and I have had a letter home tonight stating that as the weather is getting worse as winter approaches, all children from next Monday have to wear plimsolls in class and must change in and out of outdoor shoes to save the carpets. Lovely that they look after the school but can't help wondering why I paid £40 for a pair of fitted school shoes.

same for us but has been the rule for years TBH

clairabelle · 21/09/2004 19:18

Posh RC school Obviously God is closely observing the state of the carpets. That makes sense though essbee.

That was the policy when I was at school. Plimsolls inside the building and ordinary school shoes outside in the playground.

Lowryn · 21/09/2004 19:23

Oh god this brings back hideous memories of my own first years at school.
This was before velcro on shoes had been invented. We had to change from outdoor shoes into "pumps" to go to class and I could never tie or untie the laces on my outdoor shoes. My childminder who used to take me to school wouldn't help me and I would constantly be in tears trying to do my shoes. I was only 4 and a half at the time...EVIL WOMAN.

pixiefish · 21/09/2004 19:24

Probably trying to make sure the kids can sit on the carpets without all sorts of c@@@ from outside etc- quite nice really- does it perhaps make the school a bit homely where they have indoor shoes? after all they change into slippers in the house

clairabelle · 21/09/2004 19:30

It is nice just make myself laugh faffing about properly fitting shoes when for the majority of the day she will be in pumps!

Also I am jealous as they are obviously far more succesful than I am at achieving clean floors

codswallop · 21/09/2004 19:34

clairabelle · 21/09/2004 19:35

batey · 21/09/2004 19:37

Do the teachers wear their pumps too then!!

clairabelle · 21/09/2004 19:39

Good question but dd informs Miss doesn't go out at break she has a cup of tea and a lie down in the office so probably puts her slippers on

Hope she gets some knitting done as well

clairabelle · 21/09/2004 19:46

She could knit them all 'inside socks' instead of plimsolls.

Standard for ds' school among the younger kids. Bought a pair of cheap Clarks Doodles for indoors this year but otherwise they have slippers. Understand your frustration over the expensive shoes though, do they normally apply this rule ?

Jimjams · 21/09/2004 20:22

We did this at school as well.

And when I taught in Japan everyone changed into slippers (including teachers). Personally I prefer it- no dog poo smeared on the carpet!

marthamoo · 21/09/2004 20:24

How bizarre - but what a good idea (I would be narky about the school shoes too though - they could have told you sooner)
