Can i pass a maths GCSE in ten weeks?

I'm applying to do a social work Masters in September and through this process have realised that the crappy grade E in GCSE maths i got back in 1989 is not going to cut it. So to be accepted i need to retake the exam and get a C or grade 4/5 by the time I start the course this autumn 2019. Or I can't do the course.

I've only just found out. Is this possible?

I've always been rubbish at maths and the thought of this fills me with horror. Especially as simultaneously my EA ex is taking me to court to try to get custody of DC (not did any reason other than control. I'm a good mum so that's not the issue). I know the sensible thing would be to just wait a year and apply but I'm set on starting this year.

I'm sick of being self employed. I want a proper job and to earn some decent money and make a difference and I'd be really good at it. So i have to do this GCSE now.

Please give me ideas about what I can do to pass in the time available!

Well done OP! There should be info on the interweb soon predicting what'll come up in the calculator papers, based on what was in yesterday's.

We had a drama as the invigilator turned up at home with the wrong paper! Hmm Eventually got the right one an hour later and all went well.

Hullabalooo · 22/05/2019 20:33

Oh my @bonnevacances how did they manage that! Hope not too stressful.

Thanks for the Corbett maths tip. If you see it and can post the link I'd really appreciate it.

Def thinking that I need to do better in second paper to get a level 4 mark to turn my conditional Masters offers into unconditional ones.

I've arranged childcare all weekend so I can study.

Oh my @bonnevacances how did they manage that! Hope not too stressful.

The Head of Maths entered DD for Foundation even though she'd been told to enter her for Higher (for health reasons). So the invigilator turned up at home unexpectedly with the Foundation paper. 🙄 The Head of Maths said it was too late to change it, so I had to phone her line manager and get him to sort it out. He got the Higher paper sent over. I think it'll have cost them about £500 to change it on the day. Hope it comes out of her wages.Angry

If you click on my link and scroll down it is just after the links to the "St Luke's" papers.

EducatingArti · 26/05/2019 14:08

She refers to it as Edexcel International GCSE.

Can anyone recommend a supplement I can take between now and 6th June which might boost memory or brain power?

Oxygen

Expel all the air from your lungs, counting slowing, then use the same count to breathe in again slowly. Repeat, starting with 30secs in total and work up.

And believe in yourself. All the best 😀

BonnesVacances · 31/05/2019 17:51

These brain supplements might help. DD takes them and feels they do.

Take a multivitamin supplement, go for walks, inhale lavendar oil to calm your nerves and to boost your alertness, if that is what you after.

However, please remember there is no quick fix and the key is....

Also crap GCSE Maths in 1989.
I did enrol at Uni, completed BSc ( hons )
You're professional development since then, absolutely counts.
Speak to admissions, I was accepted unconditionally and now have a science degree. ( still crap at maths )

Hullabalooo · 02/06/2019 08:13

I've spoken to the relevant universities but they've given me conditional offers on achieving a level 4 GCSE maths. They're apologetic but it's a government requirement for that course hence having to put myself through this.

On the plus side I'll be able to help my dc with their homework when they're older when I wouldn't have had a scoobie 10 weeks ago so am thankful for that!

Hullabalooo · 06/06/2019 07:49

I've got my final maths exam this morning. Wish me luck!

I'm sat in the school car park already with my revision notes and a flask of tea.

I have literally no idea how this is going to pan out so all positive thoughts are really welcome.
