what would you think about this change to UNIFORM for reception class please....

at the moment reception children have to wear the full school uniform : grey skirt and tights, or trousers (for boys)
White shirt/blouse
School tie
school jumper/cardigan
Grey or white socks or tights
Black shoes (not trainers)

the reception class will now wear: black tracksuit bottoms (shorts in the summer, cycling shorts for girls) white polo shirt, school jumper. no tie.

what would you think?

agree a tie is ridiculous harpsi

and dont have such a problem with the tracky bottoms (although a skirt and tights are paradoxically eaiser to wash and dry)

its the cycling shorts.

Enid · 27/03/2007 10:39

receiption is not just playing though

well ours isnt

oliveoil · 27/03/2007 10:40

tracksuit bottoms are not chavvy

get over yourselves ffs

(I have a very very very boring form to complete and came on here to fob it off for a tad longer but it is beckoning thrillingly from the corner of my eye)

reception is play, is it not? so what does it matter what they wear?

saying that, I am partial to little girls in frilly socks and skirts, they look so cute

serenity · 27/03/2007 10:41

Oh and my children did not look 'chavvy' (oh how I hate that word) They looked pretty good actually, and I'm someone who loathes the whole 'sports clothes as everyday clothes' thing.

Twiglett · 27/03/2007 10:41

yes they are

Enid · 27/03/2007 10:41

I think skirt/trousers, polo shirt and sweatshirt easy and looks fine

or no uniform at all

bozza · 27/03/2007 10:41

I don't think trackie bottoms or cycling shorts are necessary. Bog standard school trousers work fine - DS's teflon coated ones from Adams are wearing well (much better than the Asda ones did) but I am glad that he can wear shorts in summer - but just the grey flannel shorter versions of his school trousers. The girls can wear summer dresses or skirts with socks etc.

Our school has actually just tightened up on uniform, from allowing 3 colours of polo shirt, two colours of sweatshirt, 2 colours of summer dress, 2 colours of trousers/skirts/pinafores to a single colour of each. I think this is much better.

Enid · 27/03/2007 10:42

god nothing is easier than those cheapy summer dresses

they dry in about 2 seconds

oliveoil · 27/03/2007 10:42

oh no they are not

beckybrastraps · 27/03/2007 10:42

Pitying the poor little plump girl in her cycling shorts...

Really, cycling shorts? With a school jumper?

scotlou · 27/03/2007 10:43

I think it's a good idea - tehse children are only around 4 -5 aren't they? (And if they were up here would still be at nursery anyway!!) Why do they need to look smart?
I guess taht the "cycle shorts for girls" bit is taht it is actually quite difficult to get normal shorts for girls - the cycle short style is more available.
Tracksuit bottoms are practical - they are aesy to put on and easy to clean.

Twiglett · 27/03/2007 10:43

are

oliveoil · 27/03/2007 10:43

I like those check dresses they wear in summer

I have all this to come in September

Enid · 27/03/2007 10:43

i know becky I cannot get over that

what is wrong with this country

oliveoil · 27/03/2007 10:43

not

harpsichordcarrier · 27/03/2007 10:43

yes, reception is absolutely just playing here - I think any decent reception is learning through play isn't it?

this is what we were presented with yesterday for reception children. there was mutiny - I nearly gave the woman a standing ovation
She said, with some force, that she was extremely ticked off with having to waste the day buttoning up thirty shirts and tying thirty ties, for what purpose? god knows.
I am thinking of going out and buying the lot quickly before all the other parents storm the head's office and make him change his mind.

yeuchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

oliveoil · 27/03/2007 10:44

by cycling shorts surely they mean just pull on cotton shorts you can get anywhere?

serenity · 27/03/2007 10:44

If it is hot enough to wear cycle shorts to school (and I'm sure they wouldn't object if girls wore proper shorts instead) why would they be wearing a jumper?????????

Twiglett · 27/03/2007 10:44
Enid · 27/03/2007 10:44

just dump ties

have polo shirts

I think the cycling shorts are mad

receptin is certainly not just playing here

dont they have early learning goals an all that where you are?

Iota · 27/03/2007 10:44

polo shirts polo shirts polo shirts

get rid of the shirt and tie

harpsichordcarrier · 27/03/2007 10:44

NO UNIFORM AT ALL!!!!!!!
GOD YES.
I would buy them a new sodding minibus if they banned the uniform altogether. though, of course, the whole of Western Civilisation would come to an end immediately were that to happen, natch.

Would certainly be on for trackie bottoms in winter but no way jose with the cycling shorts. Nice gingham dresses £4 in Tesco and wash and dry in minutes. No reason why they should restrain children from messy play either.

Enid · 27/03/2007 10:45

well it would be too hot to wear trackies all day hence shorts

but still a bit chilly in the am, hence jumpers
