Every year I have watched with interest and excitement as all of these types of threads have progressed to offers.

Finally in the same boat. The Christmas prep is wearing...And couldn't find anyone to share the experience with.... hence this attempt to start one....

Anyone else want to join? If I have missed a school... please feel free to still join in and add your school of interest.

Currently burning the night oil trying to find more comprehension material... anyone have any online suggestions?

Ours is a Friday interview with admissions staff - meeting HM while he's in there for 15 mins - does that mean he's borderline - would be surprised as he's passed the Sutton exams....Hmm

Wimbles101 · 13/01/2017 17:07

Academic scholarship would be nice but we just love the school so much that would be happy with any offer - he's still got the music assessment and is getting more psyched about that than KCS tomorrow!

Anyone else doing KCS tomorrow - it's a long shot for us ...

Anxiouslywaiting1 · 13/01/2017 17:12

So useful Mamanm! Thanks for the info. Just had the phone call - we have a Saturday interview. Was told on the phone that he needn't prepare , just to bring in something to initiate a conversation. Apparently DS will have 15 minute interview - while parents will be in another room with headteacher and others having a chat. Any advice most welcome. This is my first time through this!!

woodlysmum · 13/01/2017 18:06

Drama email through but no mention of the set monologue they were meant to prepare Confused- have emailed them as DS will be gutted if it's all been in vain.

Anxiouslywaiting1 · 13/01/2017 19:13

Does anyone know roughly how many children get interviewed at T? X

mamanm · 13/01/2017 19:54

Anxiouslywaiting1 - you should not worry too much as Sat. interview was actually fairly relaxed affair for us parents and DS at the time he did it (11+) He was asked about his interests, books, languages he knows and would like to learn at school - not much info I could drag out of him, unfortunately, but overall had impression that those Sat. interviews are more to meet and chat in person with the boys who will definitely be getting an offer. Parents will not be interviewed one by one - just mingling in the room with others and senior staff, while waiting for their DS! When he had his 10+ midweek interview a year before (borderline, I believe - see my post earlier) the interview was longer and from what minimum I gathered from him, they "chatted" about his English test (which must have been his weakest point at the time). Again I'm sharing this from our past experience, so I don't know if there will be any changes this year but if the system worked for them for years, they might not change it. who knows? we all are just guessing

Anxiouslywaiting1 · 13/01/2017 20:15

Thank you so much mamanm. I hope you're right! So chuffed to get this far. This is our first and only school we have applied for with little tuition in English only (DS's weakness), and DS thought he had messed up English- he wouldn't talk about it. no Maths or VR tuition- I just did some VR practice with him using a 10+ practise book.. He loves Maths but is prone to rush and make silly mistakes... I did a little with him on that front. I know he won't be exceptional in his performance but I'm hoping that he has done enough. Very happy mummy whatever the outcome. And well done to you and everyone else's DSs. I do hope everything works out for all of you. Everything happens for a reason so if it's meant to be it will be xxx

Wimbles101 · 13/01/2017 21:16

Anyone know what a Friday intvw with admissions team means - sounded pretty relaxed tbh - so am keeping fingers crossed ConfusedGrin

SoupDragon · 13/01/2017 21:49

Friday intvw with admissions team

Ah yes, those timings mean they are the Burlesque Interviews. You must go in dressed in a corset, lacy pants and scarlet high heels. Take a prepared musical performance just in case conversation dries up.

SoupDragon · 13/01/2017 21:51

Seriously though, don't try to read too much into the timings of interviews etc. I think madness lies down that path! Take it as an interview and leave it there. :)

Wimbles101 · 13/01/2017 22:05

Lol - funny! True though it's like reading tea leaves - strangely addictive 😂😂😳

Jige · 14/01/2017 07:12

DIN2K in answer to your early question my DS has sat the Whitgift and Trinity 10+.

I'm assuming your DS is doing 11+, did he sit Kingston? Has DS sat any others W&T?

DIN2K · 14/01/2017 10:44

He sat Kingston 11+ and is currently in the middle of his Emanuel exam. Horrible large exam room - having seen how nice W and KGS made it, it feels unnecessary to put them in a room of 400 people in rows!!!!

Jige · 14/01/2017 18:49

DIN2K hope the Kingston exam went well. And yes a 400 in one room sounds scary, quite like sitting a GCSE, but I assume it could do with a lack of space or just organised in a way that you have less staff monitoring the students whilst taking the exam. Better use of staff like marking exam papers. Having said that I do hope your DS has had a good day at Emanuel.

11Eleven2017 · 14/01/2017 19:21

Anyone else's DC sat the Caterham exam today? How did they find it.. ? VR/nr hard but otherwise DS was happy...

Berora · 15/01/2017 00:05

As pp had mentioned the high achievers and the edge cases etc get to see the hm.

That's not necessarily the case. DS started in W last September, he was not interviewed by HM and did not get to see him at any point during the admission process but was offered an academic scholarship. There are a few members of staff interviewing in parallel each day so don't read too much into who interviews your boys. Good luck to everyone!

sbmum2017 · 15/01/2017 12:47

Hi Berora,
Thanks for your message . Any idea at what percentage scored they consider academic scholarships at all ?

SoupDragon · 15/01/2017 12:56

I doubt very much that it is a set percentage, it will depend on how they perform against the rest of the candidates.

Jige · 15/01/2017 13:26

Berora good to know that decisions to give out academic scholarships is not dependent on seeing the HM.

We live in hope.....you've not dampened our dreams! Grin

11Eleven2017 · 15/01/2017 14:41

Guessing no one else's dc on munsnet sat Caterham. It was pretty busy on the day so seemed very popular...
Only the music scholarship left to do... fingers crossed and all the best to everyone applying to the other schools... nerves have settled down for now... lol...results/offers not due til 9th Feb so will be back around then x

Anglolux · 15/01/2017 14:47

Just a question. We had our email invite to DS's 11+ interview at Whitgift.
How can you tell who it's with? ours had no mention of who he would see.
It's on Friday.

Pingput29 · 15/01/2017 14:58

Anglolux - great news that you have an interview for Whitgift 11+ when did your email arrive? We have still heard nothing since the exam....

Anglolux · 15/01/2017 15:01

Saturday at 4:30pm!

Pingput29 · 15/01/2017 15:04

Wow! Bet you were relieved to receive it! I was hoping to hear yesterday too. All the best for the interview.

sbmum2017 · 15/01/2017 15:04

Thanks Soupdragon . We have the sports assessments to go now and then we can relax a bit until D day arrives !!!
