Thought I'd go ahead and start. Found the old threads really interesting and would welcome ongoing input from those who've been through the whole process.
Ds in Year 5 and we are looking at a mixture of grammar schools and indies for 11+ Whitgift recommended this year - we've been told there is a drive to raise academic standards. We're going to the Open afternoon on 10th Nov.

Sara in your letter does it say before accepting an offer at another school, if T is your first choice you may wish to contact admissions to discuss likelihood of bursary

BoSelectaBigBiff · 12/02/2016 13:31

Post has finally arrived! An a4 and an a5 envelope. Just tying to get through to my husband on the phone, so I can open them "with him"!!!!

sara176 · 12/02/2016 13:34

Yes, ahmedfamily

sara176 · 12/02/2016 13:36

Yes . I don't know what dose this mean for my Ds.

BoSelectaBigBiff · 12/02/2016 13:37

Full fees offer from W and T!!!! So proud of my boy Smile

berora, I hope your postman arrives soon with good news.

Ladymuck · 12/02/2016 13:43

Sara, it essentially means that your son is on the waitlist for a bursary. He has done very well indeed to be eligible for the reserve list. However it does depend on the decision of boys who have been ranked ahead of him. Some will have offers from 2 or more schools, and will have to turn down 1 or more. A lot of movement happens once state school offers are out on 1st March. the school cannot over-offer bursaries, and there will be movement, but at this early stage they cannot tell you how far down the list they can go.

So for your son, you should reassure him that he has down very well, but that only the tope 30 or so of applicants can get an award, and that you have to wait and see how far down the list they will go. It is very likely that you will hear by the end of this term.

Berora · 12/02/2016 13:44

BoSelectaBigBiff, thank you and congratulations to you and your DS! The postman finally came - literally 2 minutes ago!!! We've got A4 and A5 envelopes and they feel thicker than just one sheet so I guess it's good news. I can't open the letters yet, promised DS we would do it together after school, so another 2 hours or so before I know what offers we've got. Whatever it is, I am over the moon and so happy for DS!Grin

stressedad5 · 12/02/2016 13:48

Still waiting for postman! Well done Sonia992, can I ask what sport you son did for the scholarship

Sonia992 · 12/02/2016 13:51

Hi stressedad5 thank you. He did cricket and tennis at the sports assessment day. Did your ds attend the sports day too?

Ahmedfamily · 12/02/2016 13:51

Although addressed to sara- thanks for info ladymuck!

sara176 · 12/02/2016 13:55

Thank you very much ladmuck I was very dawn you made me feel much hopeful.Smile

stressedad5 · 12/02/2016 13:57

Thanks Sonia992, he got called back for football and rugby..

Sonia992 · 12/02/2016 14:03

Good luck to him. My ds didn't get a call back so that's why I was even more surprised about the all rounder scholarship.

Supermummy1674 · 12/02/2016 14:08

Ladymuck - as you mentioned abt accepting offers from grammar schools at 11 plus does that mean that any bursary parents who decline at 11 plus will b only for 11 plus applications or can the b allocated to any applications such as 10 plus or 13 plus?

Ladymuck · 12/02/2016 14:28

AFAIK the pot isn't exclusively reserved to a yeargroup, so an overall surplus of bursary money at 11+ can be reallocated to other entry points. No idea whether this is after that year's waitlist is exhausted or whether there is some super combined list though - sorry!

NNS03 · 12/02/2016 15:26

Well done everyone

Finally got post Grin all round scholarship for both school SmileSmile I'm speechless.

Good luck to everyone

jgjgjgjgjg · 12/02/2016 15:39

Full fees place at Whitgift and reserve list at Trinity for us. Have spoken to Trinity and apparently there are 10 boys on the 10+ reserve list. So from what I can make out, the chances of getting a place are pretty high but obviously not guaranteed.

Sigh123 · 12/02/2016 15:47

My DS received an academic scholarship offer at Whitgift and on the reserved list for Trinity. Trinity is a stones throw away from home , not sure what to do 😁

foragogogo · 12/02/2016 15:52

reserve list for a place of reserve list for a scholarship?

Supermummy1674 · 12/02/2016 15:55

Sigh 123 is that 11 or 10 plus?

Ahmedfamily · 12/02/2016 16:00

Ladymuck do you have any idea if there is ever any movement on the bursary reserve list? Also how many in your estimate would be on a bursary reserve list. Sorry if my questions seem pointless - I suppose I am scraping as some bit of hope of my son attending the school of his dreams!

Sigh123 · 12/02/2016 16:04

Reserve list for a place at Trinity. The value of the academic scholarship equates to the travel cost to Whitgift . This is for 13+

Muminfire · 12/02/2016 16:33

BooSelectaBigBiff, thank you and congratulations to you!
Yes, now we can relax and sleep well till 1st March!

Congratulations for all!

Tulips1 · 12/02/2016 16:47

Sigh123 - give Trinity a call and ask how many are on the list and where you are. Might give you an idea of the chance of getting a place.

kidstaxidriver · 12/02/2016 17:22
