Half and half for me.

Primary = private.

Secondary = huge comprehensive.

Am now self employed developer and semi-pro surfer.

iota · 12/11/2006 17:35

I went to a very academic private school which regulary features in the Sunday Times top 50 for exam results and is a channel to Oxbridge.

I went to Southampton Univesity though

ShowOfHands · 12/11/2006 17:36

Yeah state educated. Have a first class honours degree, an MA and MSc, both with distinctions.

Didn't do me any harm.

motherinferior · 12/11/2006 17:36

Yes, when in England (bits in other countries were paid for, but not very good schools). Got scholarship to Oxford, now have Oxford degree plus MA from Warwick.

Blandmum · 12/11/2006 17:37

State school, in a very working class and deprived area in S Wales.

Went to Oxford. Now teach in a state school, send my kids to private. No guilt

hoxtonchick · 12/11/2006 17:37

state primary, independent secondary, cambrdige.

hoxtonchick · 12/11/2006 17:38

Blandmum · 12/11/2006 17:38

ScummyMummy · 12/11/2006 17:38

HowTheFillyjonkStoleChristmas · 12/11/2006 17:39

state school

then redbrick-Edinburgh, got a first

then law conversion

now doing a physics BSc with the OU and it is deffo the best course I have ever done!

hatwoman · 12/11/2006 17:39

just to keep some balance can we mention dhs/dps too?

me: state age 5-8; independent girls 8-18; II(i) from Oxford, Masters distinction LSE, good job crap pay (wrong sector)

dh: state. First and DPhil from Oxford; (and Grade 8 cello - possible if you go to state school ) earns too much money by shuffling around extremely rich people's money

hoxtonchick · 12/11/2006 17:39

mb

hatwoman · 12/11/2006 17:41

I guess not all dhs are going to "balance". just that dh is a good example for certian people round here...

motherinferior · 12/11/2006 17:42

I think I have grade 8 violin. I certainly took grade 8 (or possibly 7) two days after coming back from my Oxford entrance exams...

My partner went to a Quaker boarding school (from Abroad) and now has various MAs but his first degree isn't nearly as posh as mine

Mercy · 12/11/2006 17:42

I went to a grammar school, achieved mediocre grades and then dropped out of college in the 2nd year (well, I jumped before I was pushed tbh).

Have continued in much the same vein!

Blandmum · 12/11/2006 17:43

Oh and I did my teacher training with the OU!

ScummyMummy · 12/11/2006 17:45

wow mi. I have grade 5 in french horn! Which isn't too bad considering I'm pretty much tone deaf.

Blandmum · 12/11/2006 17:48

OhOh, I have grade 5 flute as well! Does that count!

And I was once sent on a customer care course!!!

MI knows all about nice plates and that is all that matters!

IdrisTheDragon · 12/11/2006 17:50

Got 2:1 from York University.

southeastastra · 12/11/2006 17:58

i went to bog standard comp, dp went to bog standard boys only comp. we both left at 17 and went on apprecticeships. (his lasted mine didn't!)

Mercy · 12/11/2006 17:58

Ok, dh went to one of the top private schools in NZ (or at least it was then). Dropped out of 2 university courses and eventually got a good degree with OU in his late 30s. Too late career wise but he enjoyed it immensely.
