wasn't going to mention that my independent girls' school place was free, but as Tamum did, I will . scholarship girl. but dh still insists I'm posh as hell

JoolsToo · 12/11/2006 18:32

aw thanks scummy

actually I might have found a new read (as well as the other one ) - dare I tell?

dh brought an Independent home - read a cracking article by someone called Matthew Norman about TB.

They also have sudoku as well so I'm sorted

JoolsToo · 12/11/2006 18:33

also - as well?!

ScummyMummy · 12/11/2006 18:35

wow! I must have a look one of these days, as am finding the graun pretty predictable and shallow quite a bit of the time recently...

satine · 12/11/2006 18:38

8 different primary schools (army dad)
and then private girls' boarding school.
Didn't go to university - was living and working in Berlin and enjoying myself far too much!

ilovecaboose · 12/11/2006 18:39

me and dp both state educated at CofE secondary school. I went on to uni (University of West of England in Bristol) and he didn't. I'm still doing my degree.

Mercy · 12/11/2006 18:45

We stopped reading the Guardian some time ago, Scummy, because, just as you say, it's become shallow and predictable.

I didn't realise this thread was in response to another one; I assume it's the private schools are they worth it one? (which I haven't read)

HowTheFillyjonkStoleChristmas · 12/11/2006 18:47

oh this indy is far superirior to the graund, deffo. much less smug and much more anti war.

roisin · 12/11/2006 19:52

twocatsonthebed · 12/11/2006 20:46

Kind of - although I had enough of a chip on my shoulder to make sure that everyone at uni only heard the Manchester comprehensive bit.

state primary school until age of seven
private prep school
girls private school/mixed private school/boarding school/grammar school/comprehensive (and no, not expelled from one of them).

2.1 from Cambridge, MA from art college. Only Grade 1 piano though...

now a tv producer

dh - boys private school, 3rd from Durham. Self-employed DTP/typography. His degree was in Zoology tho'.

foxinsocks · 12/11/2006 20:48

I was at a mixture of state/private/church but I was v anti school and never really did much (although did get grade 8 piano and oboe ). Got to university and got a 1st.

Quootiepie · 12/11/2006 20:50

Montesorri (private)
Prep (private)
Grammer (neither... it was a convent that was voluntary aided)
College - state I think? Agricultural college

foundintranslation · 12/11/2006 20:55

state primary
bog standard comp
oxford - ba, masters and d phil

7up · 12/11/2006 20:55

state primary then comprehensive

expatinscotland · 12/11/2006 20:57

Until I was 14, I was privately educated. Age 14 is when 'high school' starts in the US.

I then went to a high-performing state school. I had to sit a very long exam, b/c entrance was merit-based.

expatinscotland · 12/11/2006 20:58

State university, although, this state university has a very good reputation thanks to being endowed w/a lot of oil money and research money and therefore able to attract top staff.

SparklePrincess · 12/11/2006 21:46

Shite state schools from start to finish unfortunately Came out with zilcho (despite being quite bright) My learning was severly disrupted by children who didnt want to learn it was pointless being there tbh. In the end I didnt bother going at all & lost my way for many years. Im determined my girls will not be allowed to rot in bad schools like I was So I moved area for better schools & quality of life It cost a fortune, but its the best money ever spent imo.

ummbilal · 12/11/2006 21:56

i was state educated, local all irls very good school, my children were home educated until recently when my younger two started at school and my eldest applied to local grammar school for next sep.

bluejelly · 12/11/2006 21:57

State all the way for me. My ex went to boarding school. We both got 2:1s but he has never had a proper job and I've done pretty well...
