Because I was .. comprehensive school in Manchester

Hey Twig - snaperoonie!

State primary in Manchester

State girls grammar school in Cheshire

Leeds University - IIi combined honours - Physiology and Pharmacology (and I was only 1% away from a first dontcha know - firsts in every single assignment and about half my final exams - 2nd yr exam results brought my mark down. Arse.)

Also done first year of my MBA (stopped when moved job and house) and have management and marketing qualifications.

Not a piano genius though

Dh - state primary, state comp, practically zero qualifications, string of crappo jobs, now has a great career, good position, fabbo salary.

He's bright and has 'gift of the gab' and it's served him well in his field (thank the Lord since I can now step back and hold the 'secondary career' in the household)

I went to the local sink comprehensive in Teesside.

Got 10 GCSE's, A BTEC National Diploma (WTF use is that?) and grade 7 on the violin.

I work in event management.

Hmm, state primary, then private girls' school. This wasn't out of choice, it was free- really weird set-up where I lived because there were secondary moderns and a boys' grammar but nothing equivalent for girls, so the council bought 30 places a year at the private school. Did well in O levels then feel foul of unutterably crap science teaching (coupled with my innate lack of ability and interest). Re-took maths and chemistry at a state school and did orders of magnitude better. Ds is at a state comprehensive now and like MI, I think he will do just fine.

I got grade 4 clarinet at the private school, mind

iota- nothing wrong with Southampton Uni!!! unless you spent too much time in Clowns in Portswood!

I went to comp that was in ofsted special measures in Plymouth

then 2:2 Biomedical Sciece Southampton Uni.

then 2:1 Occupational Therapy, St.Loyes - uni of Exeter

Now I'm a single, unemployed mum and have achieved by the age of 27 what most of my class mates had done by 16!

Mb, if you saw me trying to help ds with his S1 homework you'd see what I'm talking about Scientific depth I can do, breadth bit more of a problem....

Yeah, state primary and bog standard comprehensive. First degree from Oxford Uni, PhD from Manchester Uni.

DP also from state primary and bog standard comp, got a 1st in Physics and a PhD from Manchester Uni.

Me - state primary and comp, edinburgh university (2:1), Law conversion

DH - state primary, went to grammar but hated it being working class oik and back to comp. Left school with not a qualification to his name.

Difference - parents, just shows you that really makes the difference as DH is just as bright if not brighter than me...

Aw- don't fret, tamum. No one should boast about or need to justify their own education- where we went to school wasn't our decision, was it? We can none of us choose our parents/circumstances.

IIii Salford University (Civ Eng)
ended up being a copper!

One of those poor (as in money) council house kids with a ne'er do well father, who benefitted from the grammar school system - don't knock it.
