Dd1 is in year one and will only have reading homework, the teachers has said, which I'm delighted with actually! I just dread all the homework stuff so much!

DS started Yr 1 last month and we will just get reading. After Xmas those who know 200 words (I think) will get spelling. They won't force spelling on those who they think will "fail" as they are trying to build confidence.

Fine by me!

The other word is 'the' - just remembered!

No 'maths' homework that I know of.

We get three sheets of assorted homeword a week and do reading each evening (not given by school btw). Do you know this week we (well Ds2) have to make an owl box, paint it etc. etc. which tbh I feel is not really that helpful to his learning. I would rather read him a book.

ds was Yr1 last year... he had a 5-15 minute assignment each night, 2 nights maths, 2 nights literacy (only sometimes spelling), and one night something else. Plus a reading book which we worked thru at our own pace.

I really liked doing it with him because it let me know how he was doing at all that stuff. Hard go squeeze in around the other kids, though.
