Anyone NEVER had tears at the school gate?

Dd had tears, not for too long, but bad enough. Am bracing myself for ds starting school nursery.
A few friends were discussing it, how it makes you feel cr*p etc when one said that not one of her 3 ever gave a backward glance, never any tears, never said they didn't want to go.

Anyone else had plain sailing settling in?

I never had tears from my eldest three children - in a way it was quite hurtful. They skipped into school without even a backwards glance at me, who was left thinking...what now?
DD3 is a different kettle of fish. After two perfectly happy years at nursery, she has started sobbing uncontrollably when I leave her in the mornings

From DS1 never, except one day in Reception when he was about to get a fever.

From DS2 only a few snivels a couple of times if I've brought the wrong snack or he's forgotten a toy - no real tears.

I expected it with both DS1 and 2, as they are quite sensitive, shy types, but neither of them gave a monkeys. No tears whatsoever.

Not sure what to expect with DD next September then, as she is the total opposite, very sociable and outgoing. Does that mean she will cry when I leave her? Or will she just walk in with a breezy goodbye, like her brothers did?

None with DS or dd1, Dd2 is about to start full time school, I think I will find that hard. What is making me fill up atm, is the fact that DD1 will be starting yr2 and being so behind her peers, the LEA have finally agreed to statement her this week, and knowing she will be finally getting the support she needs is tearing me up, happy because she is getting it, sad because she needs it IYKWIM.

whoops you were talking about the kids not me!! None from dd1, some from DS and I let you know about dd2 on monday.

Ds has never cried - started preschool at 20 months and is now 3.5. I've never cried either.

Me. she started at 3, by having half days at nursery. When I p[icked her up at lunch time on the first day and asked her what she wanted to do she said, 'go back to school'

No tears from DD.

DS starts playschool tomorrow (3 mornings a week), so fingers crossed he'll be fine as well.

Dd1 never had any tears when starting nursery or primary school. The day she started nursery school I walked home in tears and cried for the whole 2 hours she was there as I was so upset that my baby was so grown up and had gone into the class without so much as a backward glance she was ok going into primary 1 as well and I managed not to cry that time.

Dd2 though I think will be different. She's very much a mummy's girl so I can forsee problems with her but seeing as she's only 2 at the moment and won't start nursery until next year when she's 3 I'm hoping by the time it comes round she'll be fine.

I think I was the only mother that had a child crying when it was time to go home

Nope, never had the problem. And I am one of those mothers who you see skipping home once dropping them off

SpaceCadet · 03/09/2006 21:24

aaronsmummy · 03/09/2006 21:37

HuwEdwards · 03/09/2006 21:45

me. no tears from dd, none from me.

joelallie · 04/09/2006 13:05

DD didn't cry at all. Loved nursery and school from the off. Which was a great releif because her older brother had cried most mornings at nursery and every day at school until he was in yr 2. Hideous experience. Not just crying but refusing to let go of me so that the teacher had to drag him off me. We tried everything but the bell was the trigger - he just panicked. Even considered DH giving up work and HEing but he wasn't at all keen to do that (especially as he wasn't the one to take DS to school).

DS#2 just started nursery this morning and went in without a backward glance. Fingers crossed that hes' the same next September.

we've never ahd tears coz ASD kids often don't care who is looking after them

One of the many wonderful things about my eldest son

DS2 never did either, he's just a sunny character

DS3 will I'll bet but I'm hardened now

PeachyClairHasBadHair · 04/09/2006 15:49

(But I cry every time, including this morning- my abbies!!!- silly old moo)
